that tip about holding down clear and pressing a pad to clear it in a sequence just changed my life
yeah I didn't know about it at first either, it's a game changer! You can also remove a single note if you record that note over again and then hit undo. That used to work, anyway, and that's how I would clear before I realized you can hit clear + pad

Thanks man! Appreciate that 🙌! Koala and a good midi controller are all you need! When I'm really in the zone chopping a sample I have one hand on my mpd28, and one on the Koala tweaking the chop. It's the best setup I've ever had. I also though make a lot of beats just on Koala on my iPhone laying on the couch lol

Awesome video man! Just wondering, how did you record the sample into koala? Whenever I try that on my iPad, it ends up picking up background noise as well.
Good question, J Deli. I realized I forgot to mention that in the video. I have an audio interface and I can record from the iPad to itself.
If you don't have an audio interface, you can do a screen recording on your iPad/iPhone, and then from Koala Sampler, select "IMPORT VIDEO" from the menu. This will import the audio and discard the video, and you'll have perfect audio to work with

@@kutuzov79 yep! the behavior is the same I believe. I've realized after making this video that sometimes the performance effects aren't "baked" or "bounced", it depends on the effect and whether it's dynamic like gate or static like pitch . If it's dynamic like gate or vibroflange, you'll need to resample instead of "bounce"

No doubt - I'm deep into Samurai... it was the fact that you could bounce the FX from the performance page to individual samples... that was news to me.
I'm sorry if this is a silly question - how did that recording work? Normally I can select mic or IAA, I think what's happened there is you commenced a screen recording, and Koala was able to hook into that somehow - is that right?
I plug my usbc from my audio interface into my iPad. I route the outs of the interface back to the ins and through my SP404. I go over it in another video about Maschine and my SP404. Not a silly question. Was crazy hard to get this setup for me back when I did it. Lmk if you can’t find the video or it’s not clear how it works
How did you "tap to record" as opposed to "hold to record"? I really want to be able to record from the mic, but still have both hands free.
It's under settings, there's an option for Hold to Record

I’ve got Koala on my iPad and I’m seeing the bake function anywhere?
I would be interested to see your mixing workflow with AUM and Koala.
The screenshot I showed is it, really :) Just the file recording and FabFilter plugins. I use the multi-band compression and cycle through the presets until I find something I like, then I tweak a little. It's post processing on the song as a whole, not very powerful, but it is helpful
I'm working on using AUM more right now, hooking up instruments and other iPad apps and recording, so I may have something there to show soon 👍 !
Okay, you are able to get “car stereo” ready mixes from just AUM and Koala?
@@DerekMcCullar well I'm mixing with plugins in AUM, so at this point Koala is not involved. And AUM is just the host app for the plugins. The plugins I'm using are top of the line (FabFilter), and I'm happy with the results, though I'm sure an audio engineer could do it better :)
So you can record while your ipad is playing?
So what does the choke do? I'm still confused on how that works.
When a pad is playing in choke group 1 and you hit another pad in choke group 1 the first pad will immediately mute. This concept is in all DAWS. Sometimes it can be called mute group. It’s great for sample chops to cut each other off, or an open high hat getting cut off by a snare or a kick on the beat
Did you import audio from a screen record or did you somehow record straight onto a pad?
I recorded straight to the pad. I have my iPad connected to my audio interface which loops through my SP404 and back to the iPad

Great video! Watched your other video and I’m still unclear about something: how do you sample audio on your iPad back to Koala? I see you use the 2i2, but could you explain how you route back to your iPad?
The iPad is using the audio interface, anything routed to there will be coming into the iPad audio input as the mic in. I have a video on my setup with Maschine and the SP404. It’s exactly the same setup except I plug my usb from my audio interface into my iPad instead of my laptop th-cam.com/video/-5ECl4N7dcI/w-d-xo.html

2020 iPad Pro, the 11 inch. Pricey but if you use it a lot, worth it. I'd recommend getting the magic keyboard too if you have the budget
