  • SmplTrek is a new portable sampler/ song writing instrument, made by Sonicware. I like it. It's a little bit technical to get into, but anyone can learn.

    This is the first video where I've realised i'm in the meta-future.
    We've got a dude, with his own style, and his own mannerisms, teaching us about a seemingly obscure little device from halfway across the globe in a highly professional and aesthetically pleasing manner.
    I can't put my finger on this, but there's just something about it that is just on another level. Maybe it's the composition work of the camera, the beautiful fashion of our presenter or the, post processing of the audio, maybe it's the next level creative choices like the mirror? But this is like... melding the barrier between a high production studio job and one dude in his room doing his thing.
    There's an element of cyberpunk here. When I envision us in a 100 years, in our corporate apartments eating our corporate food and watching videos on our corporate eye implants - it'll be these videos, the embodiment of creativity, the pinnacle of the human spirit (to create, and share and, enlighten) that will drive us through.
    I don't really think I got my point through on this one, but this is not only art, and a documentary, and a review... it's something else.
    and it's good.

      I find Red Letter Media to have taken the major TH-cam career to a wild place.
      Their whole VCR Repair Shop and uniforms, and then also the Mr. Plinkett's House set. Plus the sets they have for their game shows, and Best Of The Worst.
      But yes, him using a single camera, and the mirror is a very stylish choice.

      How many simultaneous effects can be used? Is there amp envelope & filter control of samples, and any parameter modulation for this?

    • @blazrodic
      @blazrodic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@boydw1 There are 3 FX processors inside: one insert (for one track), one send and one master. Each FX processor has a different set of effects available. You can also resample. Tracks can have eq/filter applied, but that can't be sequenced yet. There is an AR envelope on instrument track.

    this thing functions so similarly to the step sequencer of the Korg app, which is how I introduced myself to music theory and production. seeing it in the hands of a practiced master gives me so much encouragement to keep up with it, even though the pitfalls of self-education have netted me more than a few financial losses and project failures. this machine makes sense to me. I'm so excited to get my hands on this

    • @brotusclips
      @brotusclips ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it also functions similarly to the sequencing functions of the KeyStep Pro, which I also happen to own. it's more visually clear how the scenes are organized and how the songs are structured around the scenes, however, so I'm also pumped to pair my KeyStep up with this. and my 8bitWarps. so thrilling :)

    Great job being entertaining and educational simultaneously... Kit creation is kind of the most boogie bear part of the SmplTrek... and there doesn't seem to be a way back in to re-edit the kit once it's created and saved... also getting SEND FX to work requires that each pad have that feature boosted on the 2nd page of the Instrument Parameters for the kit... that bit me... and I had to create the whole kit from scratch to figure out why the Factory Kits worked with SEND FX but my custom Kit did not work. Gots ta dig deep and be sure before you commit, for now. I have a feeling that existing Kit Editing will be added into the firmware sometime soon. It's a cool box and building yer own Drum Kits makes it even better. Viva la RhythmAce. The color options per pad in the Kits is awesome and the multi-choke groups is nifty... even actually like the per pad send FX level... to just keep the kick out of the SEND FX altogether... but keep yer head in the game when making your own Drum Kits fer sher.

      Wish it had a built in battery tho. Or are you able to charge the batteries inside by plugging in a cable into the device? (Still watching the vid now. Maybe it gets answered. In that case nvm.)

    seems like a cool sampler!, but can also give a tip for everyone that does not have budget for these "expensive" sampler, and finding the korg volcas to be too much of a toy, is to get a second hand emu-systems emulator 4 sampler. 128MB ram, 128 voices polyphone. big screen to edit samples, lots of great sounding filters, d/as that sound incredible. and all this for the price of a volca sampler. (yes its 2nd hand).. ive also bought a few esi32 for $50 each, 32voices poly and 16MB ram , and fitted with scsi2sd adapters for using sdcards as harddrives. also yamahas old A-line samplers are often found around $50, and they can even be used as a fx-unit, so I am on search for those now.

    This just popped up in my feed because i clicked another synth video. I've just been glued to the screen due the chillness and good vibes you put out. It's rare to come across this kind of nice general attitude on youtube. I'm subbed, and i've always wanted to try and start a sonic journey but felt intimidated. How hard would it be to start with a device like this?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much Trikke! Starting out is always a bit trial and error before you find what clicks for you. This here is a very unique little fellow of an electronic music machine. I’d put it into a sort of medium difficulty level. There are more beginner friendly stuff as well as more advance stuff. But sometimes what matters the most is whether you like it or not.

      @@truecuckoo this device does seem very intuitive! do you have any advice, links or stuff to read or watch for a complete novice like me who always had an itch for this, but lacks any basic knowledge in music? No pressure of course, i'm just happy i was inspired yesterday 🙂
