    Story 1: Home Daily is supposed to be Home Daily from what I understand...
    Story 2: Don't mess with LUNCH... ever.
    Story 3: If someone knows what they are doing, let them. It's worse when money is taken long after a person accounts for it personally. Also, if the donation is tax deductible, timing of the gift matters.
    Thanks to all 3 OPs and KCC for this episode.

    Home daily story: I'm a retired truck driver. Given the company's dodginess about providing a copy of your "contract" I think I would make a complaint to the federal DOT and labor commission. This is the type of BS that gets trucking companies in big trouble with the feds. It also serves as a reminder to get a physical copy of the contract BEFORE you sign it and then compare it to the digital copy and get a screenshot.
    Meal story: I think the guy who owns his business hit it on the nail head. Limit the allowance to something reasonable daily allowance which would be included in the weekly/bi-weekly paycheck or require an expense report with copies of the receipts for reimbursement. Either is reasonable, though an expense report would be more work for the accounting/payroll department.
    Donations story: Rob, I have to agree with you about the delay in processing. Sure, take that $100 from my account after 3-4 months just as I'm due to pay CHRISTMAS BILLS. I'm sure it was appreciated. LOL!

    Always insist on a paper copy of your contract. Put away in a safe place. And check what it says anytime the company tells you what is supposed to be in it.

    Gen. X here. Leave it to a Boomer to ask about the contract. That's alright. ALWAYS READ. Ask for a copy before you sign it.

    Story 1 - Any company that asks you to sign a digital copy of any legal document such as a contract that is NOT a legal firm, bank, or government department. Do NOT sign such, even if they promise to give you a copy in return. Such can be changed in between you signing and you being given a copy after signing even if the system is set to automatically send you a copy via email. The same also goes if you can print the page before you sign it if you are doing it at home, if you are on PC they can disable the use of ctrl+p and Prtsc buttons on a page, however they cant disable the browser print button, nor does it disable ctrl+a, select all, and ctrl+c, to copy all the txt and then moving it to a word document and the likes. For any contract for a job always request a paper copy of the contract which you can sign and copy at the same time before you send it back to them via registered mail, or hand in yourself. You know for fact that they receive said contract and you have a copy of the original one you signed.
    PS: Also, signing anything electronically can leave your signature being accessible to hackers, so even with legal firms, banks and government departments, be careful.

    Story 1: If you do not physically WET INK sign a contract then it doesn't really exist in the legal sense as a digital one is easily manipulated after you "sign" it.

    • @YourOnlyHero
      @YourOnlyHero ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of them are easy to manipulate

    • @joshnabours9102
      @joshnabours9102 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can sometimes be really interesting what clauses you can edit in and have a big company sign because they did not read it afterwards.
      And a reminder, (at least in the US) it is legal for your employer to change your terms of employment (schedule, pay, etc) going forward with informational notice of what date that they are going to be doing so. Additionally, when your employer does this your choice to continue working there is considered agreement to these new "contract" terms. This is essentially what happened in the 1st story. The company legally changed the contract, and the employee accepted the changed contract. Then he used the change in his benefit the second time the company did so. Legally there was no manipulation, fraud or forgery of the contract happening. Just a legally acceptable change.
      Also, "wet ink" and digital contracts are equally forgable (i.e. not easily so) while verbal contracts are relatively more forgable. However, all 3 versions are equally considered as legal, enforcible contract by courts under the law. I use the word forgable instead of manipulate-able because it is important to point out that "manipulating" the contract in this sense can be considered fraud or forging documents in the right cicircumstances. The circumstances usually being in court after you had refused to agree to the changes in written form.

    I've heard the Home Daily story a few times in the last few days, but this video is the only one that included the extra information about why the OP and Fiance didn't pull out their contracts and disputed the changes. Someone was kind enough to explain what Home Daily actually means (new phrase to me) on another video

    Story1 & contracts reminds me of my first job. It provided health insurance, but they wouldn't tell us what the insurance covered. Rumour was their insurance plan was garbage. I asked to see what was covered, and was refused. Also I was "required" to sign up. But when the time came to sign the paperwork, oopse I forgot! And kept forgetting. No insurance premium deductions from my meagre paycheque!

    Meal Benefit
    I had kind of a similar yet different situation working in a retail environment.
    The business changed policy to require the workers to clock out at their station and then proceed to the lunch room, do whatever it was they were going to do for their lunch, then be back and clock back into their station prior to the end of their half hour lunch break.
    The lunchroom was clear on the other side of the building on an upper floor so anybody working lower floors we have to waste time going up stairs and across the store wasting part of their lunch just walking.
    Additionally, precious time could be lost if a customer saw the worker going through the store in their uniform and with their name badge and flagged the worker to assist the customer; the business looked poorly upon ignoring customers.
    Prior to all this the people who worked at this business could use a special terminal in the back of office area to clock in and out for their lunch.
    I started letting people know from the other departments who were complaining about losing some of their lunchtime helping customers that they had to report to HR anytime interrupted of their lunch because it was a requirement for them to be paid for time worked; this was a very common occurrence for myself and the other specialty departments of this department because sometimes there would be a problem that could only be resolved by us 6 or 7 people out of the 200+ employees. We would be asked very politely to come out of our lunch to come down and solve the problem and save the company a lot of money then go back and resume our lunch.
    It didn't take very long for this policy to be rolled back when HR received dozens of lunch adjustments every single day in addition to the retroactive adjustments.

    It always amazes me how companies and believe it or not even unions, will try to withhold a copy of the contract for the employee. I’m a member of a craft union here in the south east, and they will go out of their way to avoid giving any member a written copy of the contract.
    Now this isn’t normal for all unions, many unions, especially those up north will provide a copy online that any member can view from home. However, for whatever reason down here in Florida, this particular union refuses to give members a copy and their comment whenever asked is, what’s the problem?

    • @frozendude707
      @frozendude707 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is so weird for me, if a copy was withheld to any involved party and the issue went to court anywhere in Europe, that contract would be pretty much null and void in the eyes of the law.

    Story 1: Wow, seriously, your work laws suck. Any company here is required by law to give you a paper copy of the contract you and they signed, they normally have two copies that get signed by you and the person responsible for the hiring process, they keep one copy and you get the other one.

"our only HR person is on holiday since yesturdday", "but you knew i was comming for the past 2 weeks? couldn that person make the contract earlier?", "No sadly she had buse schedule", so I waited a week, I come in on monday and ask for the contract, "sorry ull need to wait for another week, HR extended holidays", "Ok then, I am going home Please call me when the contract will be ready to sign", No call followed...

    The call Center - You think that's bad - The Scouts - They are REALLY BAD. You write cheques for stuff and they do not process them until the END of the year. As a scout leader on a budget this really sucked when my mortgage payment bounced because they processed the cheque 6 months later. This sucked bad - because it was for "popcorn" and I was the leader, and I took all the cash and wrote a cheque to cover it. Never noticing the money was not taken with in a reasonable time.

    • @Ryanthusar
      @Ryanthusar ปีที่แล้ว

      This is why cheques are a bad form of payment due to the fact a business can simply hold off from depositing it in a good time. Honestly you would think the Scouts would be good at doing such, but honestly sounds like those in the upper leadership are just being lazy. For such organizations its also usually best to use a cashier's cheque for them.

    I'm not one to talk, but when you buy something with check or card the proper thing to do is to act as if that money is already gone. It doesn't matter what your bank balance "actually" is, as far as your finances are concerned that $100 dollar donation has already left your account. Like I said, I'm not one to talk because I've screwed myself more than once because I didn't properly keep track of my money and charges came out when I wasn't expecting it.

  • @thisbushnell2012

    OF COURSE THEY WOULD BE IRATE. Delaying donations past the end of the year impacts their IRS filings for the actual donation year AND the reported donation year. Especially if the donations are large ones, that could COST the donor through tax rate increases.

    I hate getting calls for donations to colleges. There are two on my list. The one that I obtained 2 degrees from is the least problematic. Here’s the rub, the second school is one that I took a single graduate level class ONLINE for work. I have never been to their campus or even their state. Both are state universities, but the second is larger. I donate to the first, but not the second as I had a physical connection with it. I can’t claim that with the second or even a degree.

    #1 honestly suprised how that is even legal (if it actually is legal at all). Normally if I sign a contract, it is valid exactly the way it is written on the day I signed it. As soon as someone makes changes to it in any way, the signature becomes invalid. If they change the contract but still keep your signature without asking you to sign again, that's straight-up fraud. Also, agree with the commentary, if you sign a contract and you do not immediately get a signed copy to take home with you, something's up. Normally with work contracts, at least where I live, it's like, you accept the job, they call you in to sign the contract or they mail it to you, and right there in the room or envelope, there will be a second copy, signed by them, which you keep for your own files. If they don't do that, yeah, that's shady af and, like, the biggest red flag ever. Absolutely never sign anything if you don't get an exact copy, signed by the other party, to go along with it.
    #2 damn, that was a pretty good job of not just making her own life better but also improving the lives of all her colleagues. Well done.

      I did the contract exchange by mail thing once -- I printed two copies, signed and dated both, and sent them both to the person commissioning me. Two weeks later, I find in my mailbox: both copies, signed by him. I just rolled my eyes and mailed one back to him.
