Best battle reports on TH-cam hands down. Also after watching Matthew’s video about Abbadon I was thinking “wow that armour save is ridiculous he’d never die in game” unfortunately I did not consider the possibility of “land speeded multi melta go brrrrr”
Yes I was very concerned! I do wonder what would have happened if Abaddon had kept going - probably would have resulted in an epic slaughter in the middle of the board. I think a rematch is necessary.
That is one of those thing I love about 2nd ed, I had a heavy bolter kill off dear abaddon in one game. Those heavy weapons with their multiwound abilities are no joke
@@tonlito22 The reward for connecting with an otherwise difficult to hit. Between cover and rolling a single die, getting hits was tough in 2nd edition, but if you connected... ouch.
a battle report for a classic version of the game and the video is shot well and takes less than an hour? Daaaaaaaaaaaamn Great content, my childhood nostalgia is deeply invested
After having this pop up in my recommended ive gone down a rabbit hole of 2nd edition. I am a bit younger and never knew how zany and fun these old editions could be. I watched basically every video you have posted and have been scouring the interwebs for pdfs of the old codexes and rules. I found the aptly named "40k bible" and am planning on hosting a couple games with friends. These videos you make are amazing the pace, music, colorful models, narration, everything is just top notch! Please make more battle reports they are a very fun time!
I've done it - I have now watched every single one of your videos, thank you for all the great painting tutorials and battle reports, you have an awesome voice that I never get tired of hearing and a great sense of humour. I wasn't even born when 2nd edition came out and I'm from a country where 40k still hasn't broken into the mainstream (Brazil), but I'm having so much fun engaging with this franchise! Learning lore, watching Battle Reports and seeing minis get painted, playing 40k video games, I'm having a blast.
I thought I recognized that amazingly painted Abaddon. Miniscape is one of my favorite TH-cam channels, if you've never checked him out and love 2nd edition give his channel a look.
Normally, battle reports drag on and on and are presented in a way that is very clinical and professional. But this video (and the rest of your content) reflects a long forgotten element of warhammer: fun! Warhammer should be silly and fun, and these battle reports are just that. Bravo, man.
The Librarian is the old, old model from one of the Space Hulk 1st ed. expansions, and really nicely painted too - now THAT is inspiring, and nostalgic too. This is so cool.
Incredible Batrep. Really appreciate you guys are doing something different. From the retro gaming to the edited narrative of the game mechanics system. Great voice over work and editing to keep the flow of the game easy to follow. I got into Warhammer in 5th Edition, but I do miss the granular crunch of these older games. Blast template =Love it - especially when played narratively. Also, great painted minis for that retro style. I wish we had chits and markers more common in the modern game too.
The only battle reports I can watch without going into a coma! The best. Seriously though what I need is for Ed to narrate my everyday life. There’s gotta be an app for that one day.
Just wanted to say, I only discovered your channel yesterday but have been binging a lot of your videos. I got into playing the tabletop game of 40k late 7th edition and still play now, and seeing the 2nd ed gameplay, how different it was back then, and the old models and how you paint them up has honestly revitalized my love of the game, keep up the great work!
That's awesome to hear! I started in 2nd and left in the first year of 3rd or so. Returned end of fifth and been going strong ever since. It's a wonderful hobby, and the old editions aren't going anywhere.
Love these 2nd edition reports. I started with 3rd and have a lot of nostalgia for the older editions. There are way too many models on the board in current 40k.
Love seeing Matthew come up in your videos, both of you guys are my favorite Warhammer channels, hope to see more with his Ultramarines or Chaos Forces.
Greetings and Salutations! This is just too lovely! I actually own most of the figures (on the BA side at least). This is quinessentially my 40k. Thank you so much! The models, the terrain, the editing and the narrative is fantastic. I hope much more is forthcoming. All the best to both of you, Billi.
This was awesome! Highly engaging throughout and top-notch music choices. As someone who started collecting a Black Legion army in 2nd Edition, it's a pleasure to see such classic sculpts hitting the table.
I loved it. It's games like this from back in the day that made me love Warhammer 40K so very much me and my late brother would play till the wee hours of the morning on the weekends. Thank you so very much you too for bringing back all of those wonderful memories. Cheers
It's a real pleasure. Thank you so much for sharing. We used to have our games on the floor of the bedroom. I got up in the night once and stepped right on the spiked helm of a Gretchin!
This is a lovely size of game, and a great style of battle report. We are spoiled with the Minisode-Miniscape crossover. The minis and terrain are so evocative.
Incredible battle report guys! I love how 2nd Edition swings between incredibly ineffective and absolutely brutal interactions 😅 Ed, your narrative is like the very best pages of childhood White Dwarfs - nectar for the ears!
Love how concise and to the point this is. Feels like watching a story instead of 2 dudes play warhammer. Love the old models combined with the old style of painting and the old templates/cards too :-)
Love that the Death Guard couldn't do anything. So Grandfather Nurgle sent his Bois to pick up the slack. For the Rotfather is generous and attentive to the needs of his children.
This is amazing! Great production, good angles, cool board, and BEAUTIFUL classic models! I also love how short and sweet it is. Fills me with nostalgia. Keep up the GREAT work! FOR SANGUINIUS, FOR THE EMPEROR!
Once again a stunning batrep from the old days. Absolutely LOVE this style. One thing that always gets me as a person fluent in Spanish is that "Furiosa", a common Blood Angels name seen on many models and artwork, would actually be a GIRL because Latin based words that end in -a are feminine. Literally Furiosa is a feminine Spanish/Portuguese adjective derived from Latin. If a walking Dumpster full of guns wants to identify as a girl in their afterlife, I'm not going to say no.
This brings back memories. It seems my memory works in black and white though, I remember all my minis being grey and silver. Amazing paintjobs, thank you for sharing!
I have just discovered your channel (and 2nd edition of warhammer) with this video, and it's amazing ! I started playing at the end of 2023 and there are so many interresting mechanics that I wish was in 10th edition, I hope you'll do more 2nd edition games
Great stuff! Many thanks for another glorious journey back to 2nd Edition! Excellent narration as always 👍 poor Matthew! I did feel sorry for him when Abaddon was vaporised! 😱
Loved watching this with such fun commentary. I only recently started playing 40k with 10th and so seeing the differences between that and 2nd is really fun. Keep it up!
Man, the old postures and old style of painting is really cool to see. Its also interesting to see that the bases seem to be much slimmer than modern ones, giving even bulky units a lot of place to navigate. The battle board is really spacious too, really refreshing to see when most are kinda tight for swift and quick execution. Would love to see bigger armies if you have, on bigger boards, like different Space Marine chapters defending against an Ork Waaagh would be really cool to see
6:18 Pro tip: Use a glass instead of a mug to elevate your skimmers. 14:46 The Death Company always have to charge, even when accompanied by a chaplain. If they don't have one, they stop functioning as a unit and each one moves randomly as an individual, ignoring coherency until they get in charge range. That's why the chaplain is mandatory. 15:47 Only models that actually fought in close combat get the follow-up move.
Its so cool to see how many of the unit types we got today were already around even in 2nd ed! Love the video. Also, I got some of those ancient death company too! Someone was selling them for nearly nothing, felt great to pick those up.
Oooh, OG Chaos Gate music. Excellent choice.
It seemed like the right thing to do.
Soup for the lady!
While the most iconic song is explicitly for the Ultramarines, the sheer awesomeness allows it to be used for any loyalist chapter
absolute goosebumps when that one dropped!
Death Company Marine: "Foul scions of Horus! The great traitor! The arch-fiend!"
Black Legion Marine: "Finally, something we agree on."
It never ends well for the Chaos commander when Sindri is in on the battlefield 😁

Early edition weapon damage is no joke.
Perhaps this report was just a premonition of Sindri, wherein he learns of a terrible fate to advise Abaddon against…

*THIS* is Warhammer 40,000. I love it.

“Please, Horus was my dad. I’m just Abaddon”

Old chaos models look so damn good! The perfect blend of cool and ridiculous that 40k is best at.
I can't think of anything more fitting than Failbaddon taking 13 damage.
I wasn't even born when 2nd ed existed and didn't even know about Warhammer 40k until 7th ed but I honestly love these battle reports so much!
