This feels like it captured the energy of the siege of Terra perfectly. Traitor forces who seem both like an unstoppable tide of death and an unorganized riot. Desperate defenders constantly beleaguered but given hope by occasional acts of incredible heroism(like the Venerable Old Faithful at the spaceport). Dramatic reinforcements! Titan death! It has it all!
Seeing how close this was, I think it could be fun if you did a follow up from inside the Sanctum Imperialis, as the initial chaos forces meet the defenders behind the gate, waiting for reinforcements that have to make their way past a loyalist titan still guarding the Eternity Gate. Can they do enough damage before the defenders kill them, or will they end up trapped between loyalist forces retaking the exterior and the Custodians inside? Lots of potential to continue this.
Everyone involved should be so proud of this: Ben for keeping us engaged in the narrative and masterminding the game, Tom for bringing that creative RP spice and pointing out the smaller stories throughout the siege, Alex for the gorgeous board keeping his cool with such bs rolls, other Alex for the amazing camera work, editor for amazing editing, VFX person for brilliant effects, and everyone who committed models from their collection. All these minis are so much fun, the older Epic models bring a wide happy grin to my face.
Great game! These reports are so tightly edited. The board was an absolute spectacle, there were a truly staggering amount of tiny toys, the secondary objectives felt pivotally valuable but not ridiculous. If there's one takeaway I have from this game, it's the heart, talent, and effort put in by the Games Night crew. If there's a second, it is this: In the grim darkness of the thirty-first millennium, there is only Trolls.
*After the siege:* - Horus Heresy would become the new emperor for 205 years before losing a vote of no confidence by the Chaos powers and resigning. He would dedicate his retirement to finding that elusive 40,000th war hammer. - Angron would spend most of his time in the warp playing LoL. Each time he lost a match, he would manifest in the material realm to punt a random mortal into space, to vent his unrelenting fury. - Mortarion led the Death guard for 86 years after, but found a new passion in death metal. He would later be better known as the 50’ tall frontman of ‘Vivisecting the Turgid Corpse of a Broken Antelope with a Rusty Scythe’, subsequently pioneering the sub-genre of ‘Rot Metal’. Upon being asked about the siege 4000 years later, he would simply reply “It was a hell of a long time ago, man. Don’t care for it.” - The Emperor would use his bullsh*t powers to, effectively, commit mitosis. Half of him would make a hopeless, yet defiant last defence of the throne room as it fell, while the other half hightailed it into the webway, where he would eventually find success as a male fashion model in Commorragh, under the stage name ‘Emps’. - Guilliman, upon witnessing the sheer carnage overcoming Terra upon his arriving too late, sank into a depression so bad even Corax would ask him to cheer the f*ck up. Appreciating his brother’s honesty, the two became lifelong friends and would mostly chill on Macragge, feeding the birds. - Fulgrim would dedicate the rest of his post-siege career as a Primarch to joining Discord servers just to speedrun getting banned from them by posting explicit imagery. - Fist Fistem’, the driver of the Whirlwind that fired the last loyalist shots of the siege, would coast on the massive profits of his memoir of the events, despite criticism that he massively overstated his role and kill count. His one counterpoint was “Were you there?”.
Bingus and Bungus ate far too much of the Emperor’s private stash of angel food cake in the pantry and exploded, opening a second warp portal which Sanguinius emerged from, saying he didn’t want to talk about it. The trolls eventually regenerated and having learned nothing, went to the spaceport and were recruited by a passing rogue trader as sous-chefs.
It might be a good idea when showing the dice camera to have a little graphic that says what the target number is and what they're rolling for (hits, crits, saves) because sometimes I see "oh the titan rolled two 2s I guess he got unlucky" but it's a titan against infantry so actually all it needed were 2s. If I hadn't started playing SOVL recently I'd have basically no clue why certain rolls worked and others didn't and just have to take y'all's word for it haha
I agree entirely. There were a couple all 5s and 6s shown that were worthless, didn't know what to think. I'm sure in the extended versions it's explained, since they're talking through it. But having a little like thermometer graphic or something would be awesome.
In their regular matches, Ben normally says what they're rolling for, but I imagine they had to cut tons and tons of that stuff out just to fit it in to the video. This was the only Battle Report from Games Night that I was left wondering at points about the dice rolls in the way that you mentioned.
@@TheCoolCucumber you're right. I thought something was a little different than normal. I imagine this was hell to edit too, so good job to the editor.

The lone Dreadnought holding the spaceport is giving Brother Valtus(I think that's his name) vibes from Space Marine 2. "Vile sons of Magnus! Is he here?" "He is not." "Pity, then my hatred must be directed at his minions." "Mortarion, you're attacking here?! Pity that I must stain the Emperor's world with your traitorous blood." Literally goes to throw hands with a Primarch.
I agree with a a couple other commenters here - a graphic during the dice rolls camera view showing if the rolls are for hits, crits, saves, etc would be super helpful. And maybe also showing what the target # is - hard for me to know why a 5 or 6 doesn't work, or a 2 does, without much knowledge of warhammer combat 😅 awesome work as always though, you make this tabletop stuff so much fun to watch!
