I would think you two were some of his best customers. At least you were trying to follow the instructions. Imagine what his life is like on a sunny Saturday afternoon when all the locals come piling out and tacking all over the place!
Ok you are doing really great and your never forget Stirbord et port ! Everyday is a school en France 🇫🇷 and I love you think it through afterwards learn unit and also then laugh it away - continue with fair winds and French wine! Thank you for sharing - Malc uk 🇬🇧 😅
Ha! What doesn't come out in this video is the sustained effort we've been making to learn French / Spanish (and to a lesser degree, Portuguese). It is much more difficult over VHF, we've found!
We do have the track on the chart, but we’d been in the port for about 10 days and there had been some storms in that time so we weren’t 100% sure that it would still be a safe track. If it weren’t for that we would definitely have defaulted to following the track!
Are you saying Rosetta Stone/Duolingo has two new members? Also, remember, there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. I really enjoy your videos & I wish you well.
Good that you guys made it safely out of port! But ridiculous that this french guy didn't communicate in English, which still is the main maritime communication language. Accidents bound to happen... Have a nice sail!
It would have been nice for him to speak in English but we’re fully taking the blame for this one - a bit ridiculous that we didn’t know the French for starboard and port!
@@DelfinoDiscoversI agree, you are experienced sailors and should have known the French for starboard and port. Starboard =tribord=i.e three pointed star and bâbord is the other one. When you get to Spain: Babor y estribor

It is good to hear/see that the French like the English believe everybody understands their language if it is shouted loud enough.

Not sure what MFD you have but on Axiom you can show track. If in doubt can always then just follow the track you came in on when heading back out.

You're in Brittany. Most French don't understand Breton!!. Claire's parents live in central Brittany. Don't be embarrassed
Haha good point, hope you’re both doing well!

It’s in France. Why would they speak English in a minor French port
