Thanks for sharing! I'm one of gold miners with a larger gold dredge in Nome. I remember seeing you folks come into port. Looking forward to watching your videos!
This episode just pushed your channel to the unquestionably best sailing channel on TH-cam. Awesome sailing, awesome filmming and editing, and not just a little bit of good luck with the weather on that entrance into the lagoon!
No other channel has this quality of sailing content that I know of. I’ve seen so many Caribbean sailing videos that I feel like I live there but this is all new. Good luck for the rest of your passage.
It’s a bit sad that incredible channels like this, even get compared to that horrendous, clickbait ego maniac, trustfunder rubbish, that most of the other sailing channels infest TH-cam with I wish the TH-cam algorithm knew the difference! These guys would have loads more subscribers!
I wonder how many people understand how risky this journey actually is. You are beyond the end of the World in a place with few options and completely unforgiving. It is quite easy to simply disappear in this vast emptiness. Only the marvel of modern communications makes this even possible. Great episode.
Agreed! And two glaring details. 1. Having to rely on _Iridium_ which predates Starlink by decades and is awesome but virtually unknown to young people, everyone argues the toss about it and yet here we are with living proof. And 2. Wearing flotation life jackets but not harnesses - means they expect to fall overboard and that they can be recovered before hypothermia has fatal effect rather than avoiding going overboard at all. Not sound practice.
@@dancarter482 While a harness is certainly good insurance it is not full proof. If you have too long a lead you can still go overboard and be dragged by the boat in deadly cold water. If you don't have a system to alert the other crew members all that happens is they can easily drag your lifeless body on board when you're discovered. Of course if you are a strong swimmer, and lucky, you may find your way back on board under your own power. Professionals who depend on lifelines usually have 2 shorter leads and will always have one attached before moving the other to a secure point. It complicates movement but is pretty failsafe if done correctly. Calm water can lull even salty sailors into a false sense of security, but then life is a series of measured risks anyhow.
@@garyjarvis2730 If your lanyard is too long and you can't clip in twice to pass an obstruction you shouldn't be working on deck anyway. You just made my point again!
You have the most interesting stories in the whole TH-cam, extremely beautifully and artistically presented to us. Thanks, Juho and Sohvi for being you, doing what you do and letting us enjoy it.
One of your best videos, excellent photography, and a great story, and you make it like we're with you ... great job , love your dry sense of humor..😊.
I think you're incredibly Brave to undertake such a dangerous Journey, but if anyone can do it it's you because I know you're a great sailor and extremely knowledgeable about Arctic climates
That was a very nervous leg when following your live tracking. I woke several times during the night to check progress and it was a relief to finally see you located in the lagoon. Great to now learn the back story and answer all the questions we were wondering at the time. Awesome work.
Hello my friends! I've been avidly following you for many months now. I live on a 42 ft ketch near Vancouver BC, and you are very inspiring to me as a sailor! Here's an interesting coincidence: the boat behind you in this video, Golivin Bay, just completed sea trials at the shipyard beside Shelter Island Marina where I live! To think that ship was built here in Vancouver and now it's all the way up in Nome Alaska! My neighbor installed the electrical systems on that ship! I like these little synchronicities along the way! Happy sailing our Intrepid Travelers!
I like how you explain the difficulties and dangers you have to mitigate. Very interesting to actually see a part of the world you have only read about! Minttu mixed with Baileys is not bad!
absolute gem within sailing channels. I have been watching your videos for several years. But without doubt I could not see this coming, I admire your courage for choosing this route and as you explained here there risks that you guys are taking are pretty damn real!
So many TH-cam videos showing the Bahamas, Caribbean, pacific islands etc, I’m really enjoying something different. Fascinating to see this part of the world. Thanks for sharing.
Juho and Sophie & crew, just brilliant, what an unbelievable adventure which you all are experiencing. We are so grateful that your including us, not only thrilling yet dangerous as you venture forward. Thank you so much. Hopefully Sophie is feeling better.
Simply the most amazing sailboat/adventure channel on TH-cam. Thanks for sharing it with us who will never take on a challenge like this. Truly amazing stuff.
It’s an extraordinary series of episodes you present. The filming, editing and commentary is as good as anything one might encounter on professional geographic Channels and yet you are doing it all in ‘budget’ conditions. I’m just amazed by how ballsey you all are entertaining such a voyage. Well done!
I appreciate it when you have sponsors that you recommend because it helps me when I choose products because I have great respect for your knowledge and products thank you
It's always interesting to recognise the drinking salutations from different countries which often share a commonality...at 37:15 the charming captain toasts 'Nice leg everyone' which brought to my mind the toast often made in Italy of 'auguri in tutti gambi'...another reference to the leg. Great to see your safe arrival to the lagoon. Often when you watch a film where the destination is reached after a relatively risky approach, you are drawn into the atmosphere by a tense build-up of mood music and voice-over...in this approach to the lagoon I found the tension to be very real and yet it was the result of the consistently level and factual monologue by the captain whose manner is so often laced with sang-froid and humour...for me he (and the crew) are absolutely the best heads to be with in dangerous or trying circumstances. Does any of the above make sense !? Kudos to all the crew.
I can't believe you guys have almost a ¼ million subscribers now! When I found your channel before you had your own boat, I think you only had a few thousand subs. It's always great finding a YT channel so early in the journey (something that I seem to have developed a talent for over the decade or so of my time on YT). And this is one of those rare channels that has that special something, which propels it straight to top tier awesome!

Great job on the video. Everyone understands that you need to make a living so don't worry about adding in the short advertisements. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the adventure.
Hi. I stumbled upon one of your videos a few weeks ago, and have since watched most of them. They are terrific and wonderful to see, you are very good at editing. Music selection is delightful, and I wonder where you source the music. I like your hair better short, it flatters you. Hello to your sweetheart, she is a very smart girl, and beautiful too. You are both very courageous and adventurous, and I enjoy exploring with you. From eastern North Carolina, USA.
This adventure and how you add lots of information helps one to feel part of the adventure. In 94 I went to Point Baker from Petersburg, ...so I'm continuing that adventure with you and Sophie here. Thank you!!!
What a lovely crew you have assembled, everyone seems very chill, comfortable with each other. I am loving every second of this story. Thanks to you all.
I'm in complete agreement about Saily. It is relevant and I will use it on my next trip because we were quoted $750 for two numbers on global roaming for 10 weeks in Europe! Absolutely great video!!!
There was a tradition in the British navy that glasses were not "clinked". One that I, as a precaution to the sea God's, maintained when sailing. There again I only got as far North as the Alaska border, so much admiration to you Finns.
Since two of the glasses clinked were seemingly repurposed pickle or jam containers (or something like that), they should be safe from the wrath of the sea gods...
Excellent video. A few years ago I was tied up allongside Mutluck, I asked why their anchor and bow roller were bent, Oh ,we hit a iceberg in Greenland ! They have done the passage in both directions.I followed you on the tracker and saw your pt Barrow stay.
Good crew. Good boat. A testimonial coming from you is well worth it. You are a conscientious, experienced, and intelligent sailor who cares about the sea.
