Hey, Wasn't "Almost Paradise" done for that late 80s movie, "Chances Are?" With Robert Downy Jr. & Cybill Shephard (?)? That song's video may have clips of that late 80s movie that I saw as an adult, which makes me feel old...ha ha...but glad I lived through what appears to have been better times.

Loverboy was the opening act for Styx at a concert in San Diego back in the day. No one knew who Loverboy was at the time and when they finished the set the crowd started screaming for them to come back, even though they weren't the headliner. By the end of the week, EVERYBODY in San Diego was blasting Loverboy in the school parking lot through their cheap Kraco speakers.

Loverboy is a Canadian rock band formed in 1979. They were established in Calgary, Alberta, but are currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia (my hometown). Loverboy had some great songs such as "Turn Me Loose", "Working For The Weekend", "When It's Over", "Lucky Ones", "Hot Girls In Love", "The Kid Is Hot Tonite", "Queen Of The Broken Hearts", "Heaven In Your Eyes", etc. In 1984, Loverboy recorded the United States Team theme for the 1984 Summer Olympics, "Nothing's Gonna Stop You Now".

Definitely a really great band from the early 80s, Mike Reno was an incredible vocalist and the lead guitar player was a guy named Brad Gillis who got the temporary gig filling in on tour with Ozzy Osbourne in 82 shortly after Randy Rhoads was killed in that small plane crash in Florida. I saw that show about a month after that happened and I recently learned that Brad was given the seemingly impossible task of learning all of Randy’s live performance parts in like three days!!! He pulled it off beautifully, doing Randy justice and providing Ozzy and the rest of the band the opportunity to continue and not have to cancel the tour.

Next should be "Working For the Weekend", followed by "When It's Over", "Hot Girls in Love", "Lovin' Every Minute of It", and "This Could be the Night". Lead singer Mike Reno also did a duet with Ann Wilson from Heart for the Footloose soundtrack, "Almost Paradise". The other members of the band are guitarist Paul Dean, drummer Matt Frenette, keyboardist/saxophonist Mike Reno, and bassist Scott Smith. Mike Reno sounds Irish but that means nothing...Chrissie Hynde was American but the band was British, I think? Plus, her being married to one of The Kinks (name escaping me) and the singer for Simple Minds gives it a British feel all around. Their 80s stuff seems more American though, if that makes sense (videos). Already suggested The Pretenders but nobody listens to me. Ha ha.

They’re from Calgary, but settled in Vancouver and for us living there we had Loverboy and Bryan Adams, but the 3rd other band in the area we loved was Chilliwack. The singer is Mike Reno. He can still blast it out. Another of their hits was Working For The Weekend. We were fresh young adults with the whole future ahead of us and these songs were our power theme songs; let’s grab a hold of life, we can do anything.

Absolutely!! I would love for them to react to Rain-O such an amazing song.. could be great if released/ heard currently. Now with Trooper!? that's a band I've got a very strong heartbreaker memory/ affinity for.. a very special 'Love' from my past.. (early 80's) had introduced me.. first to their music and then (quite literally) to them! Lol! We got a wonderful opportunity to go over to see Trooper in Vancouver (we're from Victoria) play live at the Commodore (Ballroom) it was such a great venue bc you had the intimacy of a small local nightclub.. sitting at your own table/ having drinks, but ale to enjoy utilizing the dance floor.. and being up close and personal to the band while playing on stage! boyfriend unabashedly introduced himself/ us and we 5en sat and chatted with Ra for part of the bands break! This all made it quite a *magical evening* for me!❣️it was back around '82 is a special memory I hope to Never lose!😉🤗👍

Mike Reno is one of the most underrated singers of the 1980s. I was extremely fortunate to see Loverboy perform as the opening act for another band. The concert took place about a week before their debut album hit the stores so no one knew who they were at the time. When the headlining act was on stage later some people started leaving to beat the traffic in the parking lot because the band just wasn't up to what we experienced while Loverboy was on stage (and, don't get me wrong, the headliners were one of the all time great rock bands that, I will respectfully, not name here),

Loverboy is one of my favorite bands. This was their first top 40 hit, but it didn't get as high as expected. Mike Reno has said that the record label did not promote this song well causing it to underachieve. They did have several more hits including Working For the Weekend (which often gets played on the radio on Fridays), Hot Girls in Love, and Lovin Every Minute of It, to name a few. They still tour -- in fact they are out on tour this year with two other bands, Styx and REO Speedwagon.

I was in a RUSH tribute band and this was always our opening song. Why? I didn't know about vocal warm ups and this song, plus two more Loverboy songs were my warm ups. When we would play the first notes of 2112, or Spirit of Radio (or some other RUSH song after this trio) our audience would just erupt with joy.
