I must have played this level dozens of times over the past 20+ years, and it never once occurred to me that I could turn and run the other way at the start of the mission 🤣
If you get the point in the cartographer building where the door gets locked, then travel back to the point where the crashed pelican later appears, you can get an often unheard line of dialogue from Cortana pointing out the security building up on the cliff above you.
Does anyone else find it odd that there are dead marines already inside the main structure, which is locked before you arrive. How did they accomplish that? How did they get in there lol
It's because its implied that marines moved in after you unlock the door on the other side of the island, if you were to play the level normally of course.
@@MDubHusky Still not as crazy as Johnson being right next to the Pillar of Autumn as it blows up, only to somehow be alive in Halo 2. "Sorry Guns, it's classified". The fact that they would be able to get that far is pretty incredible, or an oversight considering how hard it is for us to get that far and we're a Spartan. I guess they just wanted an excuse to leave health kits and ammo scattered for players to pick up, that's probably why they bothered putting marines inside the Cartographer.
I don't know how many times I've tried that Warthog slingshot move. I've pulled it off a couple times, and I still have no idea what I did right those times vs. every other time that failed.

Nice run! I believe the only trick left to improve a 3:20ish is the bigger stick stack at the bottom that allows you to jump back into the warthog through the window, however the only person I've seen do it was GarrishGoblin who called it "too inconsistent".. So this might be the pinnacle of full game run strats. Nicely done!
mate that was incredible! watching this brings back so many memories from playing the first halo when it came out, can't believe it was more than 20 years ago 😲
I almost never get the checkpoint at 1:48 despite having shields recharge and riding the left rail. It's so inconsistent that it makes running this level so frustrating.
When people have played the same game for 22 years they're pretty likely to start speedrunning. Either that, or start creating mods. I mean what else is there to do? I'm 25; I've played this game since I was 3. I was never interested in speedrunning until I decided I would finally tackle LASO. I love showing my friends all the tricks I learned from those runs.
2:49 If you're a noob runner like me and can't land that second jump down without dying, there's another way. Clip the corner of either of the purple crates by the overshield and you'll only lose a small amount of shields (don't land on the overshield tho lol)
i played this level probably 50 times. I had a few of these tricks kinda down, but man those gernade jumps were next level. NEver would I have come close to this time lolol great video my friend
Played with the sputnik skull on and was able to replace the 7 nade grenade jump with a 2 plasma nade jump and skip the second grenade jump entirely. Saves around 20 seconds and is simpler to pull off. It involves sticking your self twice and then grabbing the overshield and jumping at the last moment. If done correctly the second grenade will go off on you mid-air and propel you to the final platform in one go.
Was doing this stuff as a young Halo CE Pro when I was 15, 17 years ago lol. You can use the Hog to clip into and through certain walls and Rocks to skip through lvls and Multiplayer maps also. Good times & great time 3mins holy.
There is another variation of the warthog door trick to save even more time, if you are both very lucky and get flung the right way at the right time, the door will clip you through the floor, it can save about 5 or more seconds.
So you really got me into halo speed runs with this vid, when I first saw it a few weeks back. Dusted off the old Xbox as a result. Managed the banshee grab on AoTCR, Nade jump on T@R, flood bump on keys but these tricks on SC I just can’t get at all…
2:00 ive spent countless amount of hours as a kid trying to get passed that door and never could, im generally impressed that i never knew you could do that with the warthog. lmao never mind 3:25 is the most impressive thing
Yeah, but not as hard as you might think. I got my time in the other video below 1:30 without learning all the tricks, so for 3 hours, you probably only need to learn a few that save the most time.
That’s cool, but can you do it on LASO, no walking, no shooting, no grenades, no melee, no jumping, with one hand tied behind your back while a swarm of bees stings your butt repeatedly?
wow. i knew you could fall down half way at the cartographer and i sometimes do that even though i dont speedrun at all, but didnt knew you could do it all the way. those grenade jumps are insane but what striked me the most was going through the door. i had no idea you could skip that entire section of this level. speedrunning is insane. but it is not for everyone. i love halo so much that i like to take my time playing through the games and enjoy all encounters
"You aren't supposed to bring the warthog down here." Nobody told that to 12-year-old me playing this level for the first time. From Halo forums back then I did learn the trick for catapulting yourself through the door before it locks. But I was wondering why you didn't use the trick of lumping onto the overshield from the upper floors. Using it to get up instead was amazing.
Lol, this speedrun felt like Nylund's training-ground sequence when 117 first gets Cortana on Reach. fully exploiting the Mjolnir armor and Spartan+AI reflexes to just nope the fuck out of the intended obstacles and complete the mission.
I think I did that warthog trick in my childhood on the demo version. I tried riding in-doors many times and I remember seeing a frozen elite somewhere at least once
Anyone remember just attempting to ram the warthog through the doors over and over again back in the day? I vaguely remember getting it partway through the doors after several tries as a kid, but I've never pulled it off in MCC.
I was only able to do the Warhog launch and the main grenade launch . It probably took me longer then actually killing enemies but after “silence of reconciliation” I didn’t care as long I I completed it 😂
My friend and I have probably played this level over 50 times in our youth. Part of the reason was because it was always on the demo disk that came with Xbox magazine.
I cant keep remembering about the Flying Hog on this level Props for Inferno Plus, i now can't play the game normally without even thinking about some cursed stuff😂
I always thought that door in the control room was impassable until you unlocked no. No idea you could use the warthog to "swat" yourself through and cheat it. For that matter, I cannot believe how you use such precise grenade launches to skip the majority of the level.
If you thought this was cool, I just uploaded another one for 343 Guilty Spark in 4:06. Watch here: th-cam.com/video/rtmVjbiejhs/w-d-xo.html

And when I was 12 I thought I was smart by going straight to the security system before the cartographer.

I love that the age-old tradition of bringing warthogs where they don’t belong carries over into speedrunning!
