Hello, friends! If you enjoyed the video and wanted to support my channel, I've just started a "Buy me a Coffee" (in my case it would be tea) page which I'll link here: buymeacoffee.com/shawnaexplores but please don't feel any pressure to, the fact you're here and watching already means so much to me 🥰
Note: I’m very aware that the later half of the video features bookshops beyond the boundary of Leith but it seemed a shame to leave them out on a technicality when they’re so nearby but I should have made this clearer in the video and apologise for any confusion 😊
Absolutely! We're spoilt for choice - not to mention all the beautiful libraries too 🥰 Bread turned our okay for a first attempt but hopefully it'll be even better next time!
Thank you, strolls such as this are always nice, especially when the destinations are so enjoyable. In this video I was delighted to see both familiar and new places. Nice also to see Elvis Shakespeare, as I believe it had permanently closed down as a result of Covid. Also, nice to see location shots including what appeared to be Gayfield Place Lane, as well as those grey Edinburgh skies. On days when the skies look so ominous it is always nice to get home dry.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment!! I'm so pleased you discovered Elvis Shakespeare is still alive and well 😊 and yes, you're right, that was Gayfield Place Lane/Square!
Gosh that was such a delightful video! 😍 The tranquility and peacefulness was beautiful Shawna. And of course it was so much fun to see you transverse Leith exploring the different shops 😊 Thanks for sharing!
Like you am a big fan of toppings. It’s my go to place whilst my wife and daughter go shopping whenever we come up to Edinburgh. Thanks for the video, some more places to add to my browsing list. Stay well. C.
I love videos about books and videos about Edinburgh, and your video had both! I even saw some bookshops that were new to me. Toppings is hands down my favorite. Last visit there I had a list of titles I was looking for and they had every single one. Golden Hare in Stockbridge is another lovely one, especially when they have a fire going!
Loved the video! Do you have a Goodreads account? Also my one weakness: bookshops. I'm Dutch and last year I visited Edinburgh, I went home with 10 new books to add to my bookshelf. I think Edinburgh has amazing bookshops, therefore it was great to see this video 😍 📚.
Just discovered this on my feed. What a wonderful find. I'm a real book nut. This was heaven for me. And you seem like a lovely person with a gorgeous Edinburgh lilt. Thank you ❤️👏
Nice video thanks.I do love physical books its just not the same on a kindle or E-Reader you dont get the same smell or experience plus where i stay most of the libraries i had growing up in 70s and 80s are now closed and only place i have access to old books is a charity shop in the small village i stay in.
I lived at the foot of Leith Walk (when all the roadworks were going on!) and on London Road for a good few years. Argonaut is new to me but it looks nice ☺
Besides a nice cup of tea, do you stop in at a cafe for lunch? Do you ever buy second hand records and CD's? I love book shops that also have these records. I am into folk music the most, especially from the 60's and 70's.
I do sometimes go out for lunch but as I live in Leith, I just had lunch at home this time 😊 I don’t have a record player but I do enjoy buying the occasional CD.
Missing my hometown all the way from China. I am back to visit in the summer. So watching you videos keeps me going in the meantime. Could you do a visit to the Botanic Gardens and local area there? I'd love to see this!
I must admit the last book I read was White Teeth by Zadie Smith about 20 years ago, in this day and age its good to see bookshops are still going though. What i really want to know is how the bread turned out ?
Haha the bread was a semi-success! I made a couple small mistakes which I’ll fix in the future (1. One of my tins was too small so the bread went up instead of spreading out like flat bread should 2. I couldn’t see clearly how much salt I sprinkled on top, too much 😂 3. I was low on extra virgin olive oil so didn’t use as much as I think it needed) I’ll be sure to film the bread making process next time I make it as see if I do a better job then 😊
When I was in Topping and Co I was offered a coffee by a bookseller, it was quiet, I didn't realise it was a thing. Thought she was just being kind offering her own brew, I said no, I'm ok thanks. Is it free ?
Bethany, Typewronger, MaNaughton's and Topping are not in Leith. If you are walking downhill on Leith Walk then Leith actually starts at Pilrig Street, which is just before you reach Elvis Shakespeare. Pedantic? Perhaps, but people in Edinburgh are picky about this stuff, especially if they live in Leith.
I wondered if anyone would pull me up on that.. 🙊 You’re absolutely right, it just felt a shame to leave out four great bookshops on a technicality ☺️ I should have made it clear in the video though!
None of these are in Leith. Edinburgh yes. Bethany Bookshop - 33A Haddington Place Typewronger Books - 4a Haddington Place McNaughtan's Bookshop - 3A Haddington Place Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh - 2 Blenheim Place
I’m not sure what you mean that none of them are in Leith as the first half of my list is in Leith but I agree the later half are beyond Leith and I included all the addresses in the video and bio to make that clear but it seemed a shame to leave out great bookshops which I enjoy visiting regularly on a technicality 😊
@@ShawnaExplores All the names of the bookshops and addresses listed in my comment are places not in Leith. Worth mentioning, I think. Hope that helps. Thanks for altering the description to clear that up. :)

7:35 Book Heaven for me right there... most of my favourites in one shot ❤❤
17:25 I loved this, so adorable
They have a wonderful selection of books! 😊
Edinburgh has such a great selection of bookshops. Homemade bread is delicious 😊

A new shop for graphic novels has just opened on leith walk too - La Belle Adventure
That’s wonderful!! Thanks for sharing, I’m going to pin your comment so others might see it 😊

Great video! I live in Edinburgh (though not in Leith) and you’ve inspired me to take my daughter to these bookshops
Thanks so much for watching! Hope you and your daughter enjoy the bookshops 😊

Yes it’s free! As long as there’s an available table, you can ask for a tea or coffee 😊
