    I have asthma but i never had this shortness of breath every day! It usually happens when I wake up or during sleeping. Sometimes I have shortness with no wheezing and it goes away when I focus on playing video games which is the reason I play a lot because it helps to relax me.

Because every hospital doesn't add chest Physiotherapy in their protocol.

    Here because I've been living at an altitude of 604'. My lungs have been getting worse for a couple of years now.
    But right now I'm visiting a friend who lives at the altitude 1,161' and legitimately I can get a good breath. My inhaler is not even much help. So I looked up breathing exercises, trying to calm myself down. Cigarettes should be illegal. Not Mary Jane. I've got to stop smoking.

    • @queencty
      @queencty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cigarettes and any smoking substances should definitely be illegal! Unfortunately, weed is now legal and people smoked it carelessly without putting another person’s health into consideration.

      @Destiny 𓆩♡𓆪 thanks for asking, I got an inhaler but it turns out I prolly have nocturnal panic attacks. I thought I felt I couldn’t breathe but apparently hyperventilating has that sensation as well, so I misjudged what I was going through 😅

      @Destiny 𓆩♡𓆪 it helps relieve the anxiety but since my problem is hyperventilating, it doesn’t help with that 😅 what helps is slowing down my breathing and listening to music or doing something to take my attention away from breathing

    I'm a 26 yr old and somewhat-active guy, I've been smoking off and on, more on than off, for the last 5 years or so. I've quit now. I was told my lungs were looking pre-asthmatic. Could I fix my lungs?

      Unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different. If there is any way you can see a physical therapist in person, they should be able to help you figure out a specific program for you and help answer your questions.

    Is there a video of exercises without the mask?

      Yes, I have several. Also, all of these can be done without the mask. You can find all my videos on my channel: th-cam.com/users/askdoctorjo, and you can use the search tool (the magnifying glass) under the banner on the right side to find specific videos/topics.

    I am a natural 'tummy' breather, my kids are the same. Should I try doing the opposite, and do chest breathing?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you feel like you have tightness or weakness there. There are three ways to breathe, sternal breathing (into the chest, up and out), the expanding outward (opening up the ribcage laterally), and diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing). All of them are beneficial :-)

    So I have a question. I have asthma. Play basketball. Probably 3 -4x a week. For 2-3 hours each time. I’m not buff nor ripped or anything like that but I’d like to think I’m in good shape. I have allergies that are pretty bad I live in Oklahoma. Whenever I go to sleep I wake up around 2-4am hardly able to breath and it gets worse I’m assuming I’m having an asthma attack. My question is, is it an asthma attack for 1. And for 2. What’s causing me to wake up short of breath leading to what I’m assuming are asthma attacks? Right now I’m using advair diskus that helps with that but I still have those questions because advair is expensive and when I can’t afford it I’d like to know how I can help my situation.
