Very cool concept but I wish you would have shown some actual applications of the gate, or at least a better test run than you running into the first wall.
Hmmm.....interesting concept. If the max speed limitation can be overcome in SC, then a catchment gate can be made at the other end to "recieve" the object...🤔
Imagine a script that links two of these together so they always point toward eachother. One gate would launch the ship and the other one would catch and decellerate it.
That would work but considering _the distance_, anything can occur so it's a good way to just half your fuel usage: you accelerate by it but you brake yourself
Now make this station mobile and you got yourself a dreadnought capable of boosting fighters, turret missiles or random scrap at a target or an orbital bombarder to pound ground bases into scrap and keep rover bases on their toes.
I actually used a similar and more compact design that is used in conjunction a no cap speed mod to fire a shell that can either be a sabot shell that goes through 10-15 heavy blocks or a HEAT shell that goes through about two or three heavy blocks and then detonated two large warheads. They use space balls to create artifical mass allowing the shells to accelerate much faster and have a better impact.
It's now in kind of a state of limbo: it's pretty much done but the workshop page really lacks some screenshots... I haven't really worked on it since April of 2021... Anyways here's the link steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2468977322
Ive always wanted to make something like this, and also have another gate with grav gens in the opposite direction to rapidly slow the ship down when you reach your destination
Kudos for this gravity gate project concept! But please, post us a test with a medium-sized ship (civilian or not) with the speed mod! It is practically begging for it. (no inertial dampeners for increased awesomeness). And please make another one, headed to the planet below, as a massive-debris-hurler-weapon kind of orbital base, too!
please say you are using a speed mod with this, only getting up to 100m/s would be really anticlimactic for something able to launch ships with 450G artificial masses If anything it would be really cool for infrastructure like this to replace jump drives
I of course was designing it to be used with a speed unlocking mod Also I agree, gravity boosting has much more potential than jump drives as it is kind of realistic (if we ever build something that can yeet things into space, the only fuel we use would be spent on deceleration)
With a speed mod I was thinking more along the lines of Freelancer-style trade lanes. Have a string of these gates all pointing towards each other so ships can enter the lane and travel through it, with the last ring in the lane doing the decelerating.
It essentially allows cargo to be thrown in one direction with the ship only designed to be decelerating which saves fuel - the jump drive at the time (I missed a couple of updates now so I'm not sure about current balancing) would be too expensive to haul kilotonnes of rock around
@@scottsadler4215 yeah I kind of don't have a capable PC anymore nor I am willing to setup windows on my laptop which wouldn't pull even 30 FPS in the game

I will, the thing is that the gate needs to be finished first because one shown in the video is like the first somewhat complete design iteration
@@untodesu looks awesome! Cant wait to see future iterations

Grav generator and artificial mass
We need a ship demo for this! Cool build! Looks cool. Does cool thing.

@@Kharnellius SE doesn't run well on Linux, especially with my current hardware
There's something undeniably awesome about supermassive stations in space engineers. I never get tired of it lol
Needs a speed mod to get past 110 m/s. Look forward to next video!
I think this is the best thing for a "transport company" In a Space Engineer RP server. Love this build.
Now make this station mobile and you got yourself a dreadnought capable of boosting fighters, turret missiles or random scrap at a target or an orbital bombarder to pound ground bases into scrap and keep rover bases on their toes.
That could work, I guess... but the gate is enormous already so I's use it as a booster for cargo ships so they only decelerate on their own
Would work like a true interstellar travel gate if the server have unlimited speed mod

Well that thing is designed to yeet ships and not shells
One thing that reminds of this. This thing is like the Jedi's hyper drives but its the giga version of it.
Yeah, but this one is static, so ships move through
this would be so cool with a Speed cap remover and some Mass blocks
NASA wants to speak to you for the job of a project manager to build an interplanetary super highway.
Arguably the closest we will get to a Mass Relay.....
Epic, and I like the detail! Has it been finished yet?

@@untodesu Thanks!

This would require pinpoint accuracy, so the best way is to use it for the ship to accelerate but brake by itself, practically halfing the fuel usage
Cool design. But we need MOOOOORE!!!
Thanks, I guess :)
Well, if Keen ever going to port SE to Linux (which now should be generally possible), I am in with all my hands!

as soon as SE works decently with proton, I'll make a video
alright now attatch a smaller version to a space station for use as an orbital bombardment weapon
That is a good concept
You should probably make the safe area have a green line and the danger zone have a red line
I can but there's a line already
Now with a not safe ship :D
in theory, could this be used to launch max mass space balls surrounded in like 3 layers of heavy armor to penetrate through ships?
Possibly?
But then it'd have to be able to rotate to face its target.
