The power of this performance simply cannot be overstated. Here a 50ish year old man - dressed like just finished changing the oil in his car - pulls off what may be one the most moving, passionate and emotional instrumental solos of any genre ever recorded. This is truly one of the most iconic moments, not just in rock, but all of music.

Mr. Gilmore in his 50es is dressed at least decent. At Pompeii, in his 20es he was half naked during performance. Yet another masterpiece.

For those of us who grew up with Pink Floyd, it is an absolute privilege to see the reaction from someone of your generation hearing their brilliance for the first time. I highly recommend the live version of 'On the Turning Away' from Delicate Sound of Thunder. It is beautiful, and it will stir your emotions. Again, stunning guitar from David Gilmour. Enjoy.

We will never see anything like it t ever again. Seeing it on video was awesome. But being there live was magically way different. There wasnt a dry eye in the audience the whole night .

The singer and lead guitarist, David Gilmour, a quiet British gentleman, rips and trips and screams and wails on that guitar like no other. Dave doesn't play guitar, his soul does and he just stands there and pours it out. This I've known for 50 years. Welcome to Pink Floyd.

When you get THAT kind of emotional reaction from watching the band on a small screen and through headphones, IMAGINE what it was like to be THERE that night!!
Surrounded by the amazing clarity of the sound. . . Sound that can punch you in the chest and make your bones vibrate. .
Along with thousands and thousands of people around you, and they are all TRANSPORTED by the music, the same as you are. . .
The lights. . the movement. . . Overloading all your senses. . . GLORIOUS!
It would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that would have been amazing. .
Some guitarists can play a milion notes a minute and are fantastic. . David Gilmour can play ONE note and creep into your soul with it. . .

I was able to see this show two evenings in a row at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994.
What seemed strange at the end of the show was this "stunned" look that the audience had.
You could see on their faces that they had just witnessed something memorable, far beyond the ordinary.
There was a sort of calm, silence, as if these people didn't want to let the "return to everyday life" alter this magical moment.

I’m 63, saw Floyd 4 times. The Wall twice and the Momentary Lapse and Division Bell tours. Beyond epic. When Gilmour did ‘that’ solo for the Wall, he was atop a 30’ riser behind The Wall that had been built right across the stage in the first half of the show. The only lighting for the solo was a spotlight behind Gilmour that cast his shadow the length of the arena. There are not enough superlatives to describe the sheer emotion that man can create with his guitar. Absolutely outstanding ~ and something I’ll never forget. And yes, I know. I’m a lucky guy to have seen such majesty.

Dark Side of the Moon (you could skip on the run & money, but the rest of the album just flows); and from Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts I-IX). The latter is about grieving the loss of their founding member who literally lost his mind.

Dark Side of the Moon is their most famous album and the fourth highest seller of all time. Wish You Were Here is the album that followed it, and my absolute favorite album by any artist. Definitely also check out the performance of their song Echoes filmed at Pompeii in 1971, and also the version performed 30-some years later in Gdansk.

Comfortably Numb is about a real event, before and during a 2 hour Pink Floyd concert.
From The Wall Album, which was written by bassist Roger Glover about his own life up until the time of writing the lyrics.
The night in question , Roger was too sick and in too much pain to perform, so a doctor was found who gave Roger a pain killer and stimulant combined in one....... the pain killer sent his whole body Numb, so he couldn't feel his hands or fingers to play the bass guitar.
The stimulant melted his brain and sent him to another universe......he didn't know where he was or what he was doing, so he just stood around on stage while the others played around him .

The guitar player, David Gilmour is one of the most generous musicians ever. He sold his guitar collection for millions and donated all the money.
He also sold his mansion and property and donated all the money to charity. Homelessness is his cause and he's very serious about it.

I was at one of these gigs in Earl's Court, where this was filmed (though on a different day). I was 14. I'm 43 now and it was literally life-changing. Extraordinary. I can't thank my Dad enough for taking me along! That glitter ball was about the size of an underground train station. The top and bottom could open up and rotate in opposite directions and inside was a colourful lighthouse light. Incredible show.

I was 16 and also saw them at earls court, taken by my parents, who introduced me to Pink Floyd when I was 5 (my first album for my first cassette deck lol). 2024 marks this concert as being 30 years old, playing a song that is 45 years old , which makes me wonder how many concerts being recorded today will be seen in 30 years time. Have been to many PF concerts, even going back to the sun-rise / sun-set outdoor concerts of days gone by. Saw this concert at Mile High in Denver. This was a time when Stapleton airport was in use. They restricted all landing from the west because of the lasers being used. It was without a doubt one of the best PF concerts. QED.

I was at this show in London, it was 100 times better than you can tell from the videos! Just about any song from this show is brilliant. Comfortably Numb was the 2nd of 3 encores, the final number was "Run Like Hell", if you want a fabulous light show watch the Pulse version of that. If you want another great guitar solo try "Sorrow" or maybe "One of these days" which is quite different! :)

Welcome to Pink Floyd! The best band ever! I loved your reaction.
If you are looking for more PF recommendations (and I subbed in hopes that you are) try "Us And Them." Do the studio version from the album The Dark Side of the Moon 1973.
As you listen to more PF, you will begin to realize that their albums are "concept albums". They tell a story much like a movie from beginning to end, and all of the songs flow beautifully and seamlessly from one to the next. They keep you on the edge of your seat from the first song to the last.
I know it isn't easy to react to a whole album, that's why I recommended just one song, but you must listen to one of their many brilliant albums in one sitting some day. I would definitely recommend The Dark Side of the Moon.

Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, is a story of a band member that is having a nervous breakdown. Although he has made it very big in the music industry he is comfortably numb but emotionally bankrupt. The knock on the door and the words "It's time to go" are a wake-up call from the hotel people trying to get him up for the show. A doctor is called hence "There will be a little pinprick "There will be no more AHAHAH" his hands felt like 2 balloons as a result of the drug and emotional state of the band member. A very good view is Pink Floyd the Video The Wall Like most Pink Floyd it's meant to be viewed/listened to as a complete story ie The Video The Wall encompasses a 2 cd audio set and all the music has a part in the story. Comfortably Numb is from the Wall CD set.

Beautiful, honest reaction. You may try live version On the turning away from Delicate sound of thunder. I heard this song probably over 100 times in my life and it brings me to tears and goosebumps every single time. Amazing

Pink Floyd is easily one of the greatest bands of all time. The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, and many other albums are just experiences... that's it... an experience. You put the album on and just go on this journey through the music, the lyrics. As you see, they are as good live as the studio versions. You don't really get that from bands today, where the music, the lyrics, just make you go on a journey. Pink Floyd did it through entire albums, song after song.

"they are as good live as the studio versions", not sure I fully agree with that. There are a number of songs recorded in the studio, but when you hear them live, they have add another layer to it. Money (Pulse Version) is a good example where they worked a tad on the middle section. Echoes with the Pompeii and Gdansk versions another example. Of course, the original is still "headphones positive"!

On the outside he’s numb but he’s screaming in anguish inside, and that’s this song. The only solo that makes me cry every time.

"I'm stuttering from shock" - yep, that's not uncommon. This is the 4th reaction video to this same song that i have watched (just tonight) ,and while all had the common "WOW!", and all were good , yours was deeply felt in a similar way by MANY , I am sure.
    Pink Floyd IS good medicine.

When you do Great gig in the sky you have to do the album version . Every other song doesnt matter what version except that one. You will notice pink floyd has long intros to their songs. It is to put you in the mood for each song.

If you're there, you don't scream and applaud at the end of because you've been screaming and applauding since halfway through the solo. It is exultant!!

If you want something faster and even more spectacular with the lights try Run Like Hell" the finale for this concert!!
If you want something slow and absolutely beautiful try the song "High Hope's" from the same concert! Or even "Us and Them"!!
Nice reaction!! Most of us who love Pink Floyd were STRUCK just like you were.
Last comment if you want to see them when they were your age and an absolutely beautiful song when they finally found themselves and what they wanted to be do "Echoes" Pink Floyd live from Pompeii 1972!!! That one builds slowly and turns into an absolute masterpiece!!!
