David Gilmours guitar tells the story. Between the singing and the solos, you'll never hear anyone play with such emotions as the way Gilmour can play.

When you get THAT kind of emotional reaction from watching the band on a small screen and through headphones, IMAGINE what it was like to be THERE that night!!
Surrounded by the amazing clarity of the sound. . . Sound that can punch you in the chest and make your bones vibrate. .
Along with thousands and thousands of people around you, and they are all TRANSPORTED by the music, the same as you are. . .
The lights. . the movement. . . Overloading all your senses. . . GLORIOUS!
It would have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that would have been amazing. .
Some guitarists can play a milion notes a minute and are fantastic. . David Gilmour can play ONE note and creep into your soul with it. . .

Pink Floyd is the name of the band, it is not a person. The lead singer and amazing guitarist is David Gilmour, considered by many to be one of the best to ever pick up the instrument. Floyd is known for their amazing compositions, deep philosophical lyrics, and brilliant musicianship.

@@geoffreysmommy I was referring to the members of the band on stage, not the inspiration for their name. Yes, Pink Floyd got their name from Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, two old time Southern black blues players from the 30s and 40s. Probably Syd Barrett's most important contribution to the band.

That thick, powerful bass line, with Gilmour's "treble-y" notes dancing on top of them, makes a masterful composition. Layers of sound through which a listener's mind can dive and cavort or simply float through; choose to stay on the surface or slowly sink into the lowest bass notes or soar to the highest note David can play.

As stated below, Pink Floyd is the name of the group. Pink is a character in the rock-opera called The Wall. This song is from that opera. The Wall tells the tale of an aging, drug-addled rocker (Pink) and the proverbial "wall" than he has built around himself due to his life experiences. In this song, Pink is being administered a shot (just a little pin prick) from a doctor to "get his through the show". The chorus is singing the lines of the doctor, and David Gilmore is singing the lines of Pink. You are correct, many believe this is the best solo ever. I recommend you check out their first album, Dark Side of the Moon, and specifically Great Gig in the Sky. If you aren't moved by that performance--you have no soul.

Since you liked this song by Pink Floyd... You should check out 'Time/Great Gig in the Sky' off their album 'Dark Side of the Moon' (Even if you have to break it up into two videos)
In the song 'Time' David Gilmore has another great solo.
In the song 'Great Gig in the Sky' (The two songs flow from one right into the other)
Pink Floyd brought in a studio singer to put down some vocal tracks. Originally they were going to find a different singer and just use studio singers vocal tracks as a guide... But she did such an amazing job that they put her on the album. (At the time she was completely unknown)
She didn't even know until she heard herself on the radio.

The entire album is a concept album about a man named Pink. It follows most of his entire life from his birth, his decent into madness after repeated traumas, his self induced isolation (the wall), and his eventual recovery when he breaks free of his emotional traumas and escapes his isolation. This song, per the album, is a back and forth dialog between the character Pink and a doctor who is trying to give him a counteracting drug to help him perform a show. The first verse is the doctor, the second verse is Pink, and so on. Pink is telling the doctor that he is not actually in pain but is instead numb. After the doctor injects him, Pink tells the doctor about how he remembers feeling similar when he was sick as a child. The character Pink is largely inspired by both Sid and Roger. Pink is heavily affected by the death of his father in WW2, which is similar to Roger Waters losing his own father in WW2. Sid was drugged prior to a show to keep him alert. Roger had a similar experience as a child, which he describes as how he fwkr like his hands were like balloons. The entire first CD of this album follows Pinks life from a baby to a child to a teenager, through his divorce, and his decent into madness. It's a truly remarkable album and the entire thing tells a very emotional story. This song is absolutely mind blowing.

The band is called Pink Floyd - not the person. They've been around in various iterations since the late 1960s. Yes, more than one person can and does sing (not sure why you were asking that) but nobody else can play the guitar like David Gilmour. BTW Why are so many female reactors using the same video title - 'Girl Breaks Down'?

The one thing that isn’t really conveyed in the movie is that the disco ball in the middle was there for three quarters of the show and you kinda forgot about it, and it turning into a flower was fuuucking mind blowing.

PInk Floyd is a group, which here has lost some of the original members , Syd Barrett due to mental health problems and Roger Waters who left of his own accord, after arguments.
Syd Barret was replaced by David Gilmore the lead guitarist who also sings, and Roger Waters, most of the time, by Guy Pratt the young Bass player.
The other members are Richard Wright (R.I.P.) on keyboards and Nick Mason on drums. All the others are guests which frequently change usually due to concert location.
But a special mention, as it was his birthday yesterday, to Dick Parry the usual clarinet player.

You’ve officially been “Floyded”; welcome to Floyd fandom!
Some useful background info on PF: most of their albums were designed to be listened to in one sitting. So you’ll notice the studio album versions of their songs all flow from one to the next, with no “breaks” between songs.
The line-up for first few albums included Syd Barrett on lead guitar. Unfortunately, Syd suffered from mental illness, made worse by his use of psychedelic drugs. He became erratic, and eventually the band was forced to replace him. David Gilmour was brought in, and the rest is, as they say, history. But the band, and Syd, and David were all close friends, and Syd’s slow disintegration before their eyes hit the band pretty hard.
I mention all this because after Syd’s departure and David Gilmour’s arrival, Pink Floyd produced four albums that were incredibly successful, and they include themes of rejection, mental health, depression, and much of the underlying angst stemmed from the kinds of issues Syd faced. The albums, in order, are “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals”, and their double-album “The Wall”, where “Comfortably Numb” comes from. ‘Dark Side’ is legendary; it remained on Billboard Magazine’s Hot 200 Albums list for more than NINE HUNDRED WEEKS. The title track on “Wish You Were Here” was written primarily by then-bassist Roger Waters to his vanished friend Syd. It’s emotional, and worth a reaction. So is “Time”, from ‘Dark Side’.
“Comfortably Numb” details a pivotal moment in the story of the fictional character, Pink Floyd. By this point in the story of “The Wall”, Pink has become successful. But he hates his life, so to escape it, he turns to drugs. One night he’s too stoned to perform. “comfortably Numb” is a conversation between a local doctor who the greedy promoter called to get Pink ‘sober’ enough to play, so they don’t have to give refunds, and Pink. Gilmour’s first solo is while Pink is stoned; it’s soaring and blissful and beautiful. But his second solo is after the shot (“Just a little pin-prick”) has kicked in, when he’s been forced to sober up and face the life he hates. Gilmour’s guitar perfectly expresses Pink’s emotions, his loneliness, his self-loathing, his misery. That second solo is considered one of the best solos in rock music.
The P*U*L*S*E Concert was a truly spectacular show. Virtually every song they performed there is worthy of listening to; the performances that night are pretty uniformly incredible. Floyd was widely known for their stage presence and light shows, and on this tour, which turned out to be their last, they blew out all the stops. If you watch any other songs from the concert (like “High Hopes”) you’ll see. And you should. Thank you for this reaction.

If you want true emotion in music [vocals] try Great Gig in the Sky [studio version] by Pink Floyd. Take it from a 65 year old white from the states, this song will grab you by the heart and not let go. Enjoy.
