I accidentally found the issue of darkness at night a number of years ago: The power had been out all weekend, so I gathered candles, and lit them when it became dark. I was able to read for an hour or so, THEN BECAME SLEEPY (after a lifetime of being a night owl). I woke up refreshed--for the first time in a very long time. I just ordered two copies of Dr. Means' book yesterday--one a gift for my son. I feel so fortunate to have found her videos. (From an 80 year old also now in California.)
As psychotherapist and health counselor for 53 years, I have found this podcast so informative!! So much valuable information; could listen to the brilliant articulation of Dr Casey all day! Love her messages and can’t wait to get her book! She is so right on!! Thank you so much!!
Wow, 53 years of experience! That's incredible. We're so glad you're here and enjoyed this episode with Dr. Casey. Her articulation truly is brilliant! Thank you for your kind words and for being part of our community. Enjoy her book! 📚😊 - Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
Dr. Casey means and her brother Calley are amazing 😊 If you’re a psychotherapist you should also check out Dr. Christopher Palmer who specializes in the gut and how it relates to and has a large impact on mental health!
I have often worshiped God in saying I am grateful that he holds my very molecules together. St. John in the Bible says, "and he (Jesus) is before all things, and by Him all things consist (hold together).". Very consistent with all you're saying as I understand it according to the Bible and the revelation of Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah). ❤️❤️❤️ (Watching at about 1:11:00)
I love how she explains the literal cellular importance of food. This is an important new way of thinking about food. Also love the “mother” connection.
Aww... I'm at 1:07 about eating slowly and this is a comfort to me 🥰 I have usually been the last one at the table still eating. My mom was usually cleaning up from the meal around me while I finished and everyone else was gone. Nice reminder that this is a benefit!! 😊❤️🙌🕊️
on a health quest for a while now - losing weight. took out processed foods and seed oils especially. found this video and it is very informative the part about light/dark going outdoors - had no idea. I am doing the timing thing right - 8 hours of sleep - eating from 11 am to 7 pm. sleep 10 or 11 pm to 7 or 8 am. Going to make it a point to get out of my 4 walls more than just my daily walk. thank Dr. Means!
Dr. Means is a recent find and boy have my eyes been opened!! What we put on and in our bodies is so important. You got to be in control of your health and most definitely research and research again before you put anything in or on your body. For someone suffering from RA for 20 plus years and now more chronic pain in the past 7 months have come up(which doctors have yet to figure out why and was put on terrible RX drugs. I have been trying to implement this regiment over last two weeks and just WOW the differences I am seeing and feeling. I have never lived a structured life Ie eating times and sleep times and it has been tough, but it worth it to me to do this. I am sick of being sick and having chronic inflammation. I feel amazing just after two weeks of trying to follow her guidelines. Baby steps and do not get frustrated this will work for you and trust it is becoming worth the sacrifice.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing your journey with us.Your story is a powerful reminder of the importance of being proactive and informed about what we put in and on our bodies. Stay strong and healthy! 💪🏾😁🙌🏾 - Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
Thanks Shawn! I’ve been a big fan of Casey and Calley for a few years, they are amazing. Their parents must be amazing, and should write a book “How to Raise Genius Kids”…or something like that 😂👍
Dr Casey is so beautifully articulate and brilliant! Love hearing her and her wise messages!! Thank you so much for your precious contribution to our health!!
This was such a good episode! If anything the last 4 years and everything that has gone on and being “told” to stay in our homes has now created a fear for some to leave their home and being in their house is their “safe space”. Thank you for your knowledge Dr Means.
It's true!! the past few years have really shifted our perspectives on safety and comfort. Dr. Means' insights are definitely helpful for navigating these changes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and being part of our community! 😊❤️
Thank you Shawn. This is one of my favorites. Dr Casey is speaking my love language. Love her woo woo energy and how you both approach healthy eating with awe and gratitude. 💙🙏🏻
I am super ecstatic to listen to this mind blowing episode! As a previous registered dietitian of 20 years, I can’t agree more. Thank you to you both for sharing & for all your work you do!!!
It means a lot coming from someone with your background. Thank you for your kind words and for being part of our community! - Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
Not to speak for her but I listen to Casey quite a lot and I believe she is saying that we as a SOCIETY have chosen to live this way as opposed to YOU PERSONALLY making that choice. With that said, you still do have a choice to find a way to get outside as much as possible.
Thank you for your insights! Yes, at the end of the day, we still have to consciously make an effort to get outside as much as we can! - 💯 Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
I love the work that Shawn, Casey & Calley are sharing. Living a life with purpose on ancestral health & nutrition gives you an optimal lifestyle. Thank you for sharing! I'm a 50-year young perimenipause woman who's in remission from chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was on a weekly biologic injectible medication "Enbrel," with other prescriptions like Celebrex, Methotrexate, Tramadol & Prednisone at times that made my immune system sick and my body obese & weak starting at the age of 27. I started eating a ketogenic lifestyle in September 2019, and I'm mainly carnivore "Ketovore" now. This way of eating is the only thing that has helped my weight loss of 60 lbs, severe pain, inflammation, and other metobolic health conditions. Also, I love being in nature, grounding, circadian rhythm & I eat no seed oils, sugar, or processed foods. I started lifting heavy weights, strength training & balance exercises 4 times a week last April 2023. It has been a new life for me! You can seek your true health every day, starting with what you eat/drink & don't eat/drink. Following & implementing Dr. Ken D Berry's Proper Human Diet "PHD" has been a huge part of my success, too. Peace & Health, Christine Peters

Being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I take everything with a grain of salt. I try to understand before forming a feedback or an opinion. Dr. Casey has a great point in connecting the importance of HOW biologically what our bodies need- light, rest, etc which brings another perspective of how being OUTDOORS is healthy for us. But also another reminder, sun is another way we get Vit D (which if you're low on can pose health rush with depression), Trees provide healthy oxygen, DIRT has organisms that again decrease depression (y'all can research this). So, I concur with what Dr. Casey is sharing but she didn't quite share HOW nature grounds us... Think about why ppl love going to the beach... It hits every 5 senses and being outdoors does the same. Put away the phone and electronics is a HUGE plus--that's a whole other issue.
Great info and love the work she is doing though being a long term whole food plant based eater my body has never mentioned that I need red meat or any animal products for that matter. I’m sixty four and have never felt better or had better blood test results. Evidently based nutrition info clearly tells us that we don’t need animals in our diet to be ultra healthy. Though I understand that this is only my opinion based on my experience.
I am absolutely behind everything that Casey says, except when she says that we are the only species that has an obesity and chronic disease epidemic and we are the only species that eats ultra processed food. Dogs and Cats are in the exact same position as us. Follow dogs rates of diabetes and obesity and you will see the same percentage of dogs are obese as humans. Pancreatitis is extremely common in kibble fed dogs, often leading to diabetes, yet it’s blamed on a high fat diet (table scraps) by many vets. Funny considering dogs are ketogenic and do not rely on glucose for energy. And those dogs are fed ultra processed species inappropriate high carb kibble. Much like humans who are eating species inappropriate ultra processed foods. It’s not a coincidence, we are making our pets fat and sick just like ourselves. Ever seen a fat wolf with diabetes before? Not a chance that would happen in the wild eating natural whole foods. And to think we are making an animal whose main source of energy is fat (ketogenesis) have diabetes from feeding them high carb foods that they are not meant to consume. It’s sick. Human’s are responsible for this epidemic in themselves and our pets. I should also add that dogs have more cancer than any other species on earth, yet it’s often not considered that it’s the inappropriate diet that they are most often fed.
Another comment: one thing I’ve never seen addressed is how you are supposed to have a completely dark and quiet room when you go to bed at a different time than your spouse? Is he supposed to flail about in the dark? I do all the things I’m supposed to do so much as I can, but can’t turn out all the lights and such because he goes to bed two or three hours after I do.
I just visited there for the eclipse. A beautiful area you have there❤👍 Edit lol, it was actually poplar bluff i visited. My Missouri geography is lacking apparently.
I’m pretty frustrated with her saying Americans CHOOSE to be in our house and car for 93% of the day. May be true for some but as somebody as myself who works 40 hours a week. I certainly want to be outside as much as I need/want but I need to make enough money to have anything in this world. I avoided the 40 hour week grind for so long but never been able to have a place of my own. Always struggling with bills. A lot of us don’t choose to sacrifice our needs for nature but we have too, to even have stability in our lives. Way the system is set up for now unfortunately. Not many jobs can work outside that are stable.
BBQ, any chance you have a yard to put in some perennial food sources? The gift that keeps on giving! (with little work to build a healthy soil & less pest damage). I've been able to invest a little at a time so that I can afford to work 1 less day a week. Plus better energy from the organic veggies & fruit!
Hey family, thanks for chiming in and sharing your perspective. ♥️ When I was trying to figure out my deteriorating health and well-being, I lived in Ferguson, Missouri, worked over 40 hours a week at a casino, and I was a full-time student with two kids. There were no gyms in my neighborhood, and it wasn’t uncommon to have shootings at the local park. I had to navigate so much just to survive. Even getting to the university I was attending (which was a 15 minute drive away), I was pulled over and harassed so many times by the people who were supposed “protect and serve” our community. I had so many reasons not to find a way to take better care of myself. And no one would have blamed me. But THAT was at the root of what was keeping me imprisoned. I had a problem for every solution and I was hanging on to all the reasons that I COULDN’T do things. But it was in this environment, when I DECIDED that I’d find a way regardless of my circumstances, that I began to find solutions that were there all along. I began to use the university gym, I began to prioritize active activities (often outdoors) with my kids each weekend in safer parts of town, I even started doing workouts on the parking lot of my apartment complex to get some sunlight since I was indoors most of the day. I also found out there was an outdoor farmer’s market every Saturday less than 10 minutes from me and I took my kids there most weekends too. Regardless of where you are, if you see yourself without more options, then THAT is what life will lawfully give you. But when you understand how powerful, creative, and limitless you really are, you know that the only thing that can hold you back are the limits you place on your own mind. If you want to fight for your apparent limitations, you absolutely can. Or you can put that energy into what you CAN do regardless of your circumstances. Where your mind goes, your life will follow. This I know for certain.
It is wrong to dismiss the concerns for those who live where it is very dark very early or very very cold. I’m supposed to go out at 4:30 in the morning when it is 20 below and snowing like crazy? That is not minutiae.
When will people realize we are not made from the sun or on accident. God is our creator! There is too much of worshipping the creation instead of worshipping our creator!!
I kept thinking the same thing, waiting for her to credit The Creator of everything in this entire Universe. God, the One and Only, created our amazing bodies and all of the systems that are working all together to keep us alive despite what we put in our bodies.
I was listening to her audiobook. Her way of speaking, fast and without pause, is exhausting and annoying. The book is repetitive and has nothing new, though I respect it draws together a lot of disparate information. I've heard 3 chapters and feel stressed and angry as much by her as the state of our western medical model. If she's practising what she preaches then sadly she isn't a great advertisement of right living.
I accidentally found the issue of darkness at night a number of years ago: The power had been out all weekend, so I gathered candles, and lit them when it became dark. 45:00 put in every meal: 1) healthy protean source, 2) Omega 3 source, 3) anti-oxidant source, 4) fiber source, 5) probiotic source
All of which should strive to be a s nutrient packed as possible!
If anyone needs ideas, look at traditional Japanese meals. They also have lowest obesity rate in the world.
Thanks for taking notes!!! Glad this episode resonated with you! 😁 - Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
Or just eat meat eggs fish skip the rest.
Eggs, Raw Sauerkraut with Flax, Hemp, Pumpkin and Chia Seeds, 2 Brazil Nuts, Avocado, Raspberries , Cup of Kefir with Cocoa Nibs. Does that cover it?

Hi Shawn, do you think wearing sunglasses or a hat is a hinderance to getting the light we need?
I'm trying to figure out how to get outside more in the winter in Minnesota.
When plants are picked they are not dead, but they do start the process of decomposing.
What about cloths and the sun, and bald and the sun. Do bald people get more benefits in winter sun without hat when we have a lot of cloths on..
Love this ❤❤❤
Much love to you!! Thanks for watching and following along! - Sarah (Assistant to Shawn)
Does anyone know her thoughts on sunscreen as a fellow fair skinned lady how do I get all the sunshine I need without harming my skin?
It’s always dark inside our body, whoa!!

Very interesting ! Put out your cap and you can see more light 😅
Good call!
Grow some of your own food, so many new growing ideas or just dig up your grass. It provides sunshine, exercise, mental therapy and better health.

We all have choices - some of us choose to learn from this amazing free lecture, some of us choose to be enraged by what she said.
@@TheShawnModel very good wisdom there, and relatable life story for many of us who are feeling downtrodden!!
🙏🏼
It is wrong to dismiss the concerns for those who live where it is very dark very early or very very cold. I’m supposed to go out at 4:30 in the morning when it is 20 below and snowing like crazy? That is not minutiae.
nice
When will people realize we are not made from the sun or on accident. God is our creator! There is too much of worshipping the creation instead of worshipping our creator!!
I kept thinking the same thing, waiting for her to credit The Creator of everything in this entire Universe. God, the One and Only, created our amazing bodies and all of the systems that are working all together to keep us alive despite what we put in our bodies.
I came here to either say it or look for this comment ❤❤❤ Thank you for saying what needed to be said!
Really people sleep with the light on
👀📜👂🏽
Some needs to tell her what a species is.
She had me until the 92 million miles photon light hitting the retina. Propaganda much?
People are addicted to meat
That’s hilarious!
If she's practising what she preaches then sadly she isn't a great advertisement of right living.
geez, that’s so bitchy and just ridiculous! you need to get a life!😏
