    Men who are not extremely overweight can usually do some push ups.
    Women on the othe hand, even fit women, can often not do a single push up.
    I was probably 14 or 15 when I found out that girls who were doing competitive sports sometimes couldn't do a single push up and it confused the hell out of me, as I thought almost everyone could do push ups.
    Now it makes sense, women, at average, do have 60% less upper body strength at the same weight, so push ups will be naturally harder for them.

    • @sarahloy2003
      @sarahloy2003 ปีที่แล้ว +417

      So true, the comments are really dense for not acknowledging this. I was 17, a lower end of healthy weight who dabbled in running and yoga. So not strong, but very slim, I couldn't do one press up! Now I'm 20, I can do about 20 (ironically) since I have done strength training for almost 2 years now on and off. Still have a long way to go but, most women starting off cannot do one. A solid beginner range is about 5 with intermediate level being just under 20 reps. Anything abover 30 press ups is incredibly impressive for a woman. I've actually gained a fair bit of fat since then so it's really about the general baseline strength women have, not about being overweight/ inactive. Press ups are not easy and if youre a woman, you're not weak for not being able to do one, just untrained.

      I'm a man and I can probably do between 10 and 15 right now. I never, in my whole life, explicitly trained push ups, and I used to be able to do probably 30 push ups, when I was 20.
      Men and women are just built differently, we need to start acknowledging that.
      A man who can do 30 push ups isn't amazing, but a woman is.
      For a man, 50 or even 60 push ups are probably on the level of 30 push ups for women.

    I didn't see this as a sad reality. Rather, I realized how relative success is in the world of fitness. Bodybuilders get too caught up in their shape, powerlifters in their PR, athletes in their skill, etc. But to the average person, they don't see these flaws and see you as walking examples of success. It's nice to look back once in a while and celebrate even the little milestones, like that one push-up.
    The failures you see now are the achievements other people see.

      Thing is, being able to do one pushup is the most basic of the basic stuff. It's not a milestone, it should be a starting point, and it's a shame that there are young people out there who are so goddamn weak.

    • @vivaleroca7511
      @vivaleroca7511 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      @@paolomarsico607 but my point still remains: success is relative. To the disabled person with bone deficiencies, a pushup is a big achievement. To the active teenager, it's a basic skill. Fitness is not definite, and people are born with different bodies. Assigning, as how you put it, "shame" to someone because they were unable to do "basic stuff" is needlessly demeaning and counterproductive.
      I firmly believe that in fitness, we should celebrate discipline, not shame inability. There are different ways to be healthy, and one push-up isn't always the best indicator of health.

    • @paolomarsico607

      The truth is that most of us are incredibly physically weak, even relatively to their age and health.
      Edit: I agree that discipline is essential, but a man's body reflects how disciplined he is, and a weak body is sign of poor discipline (when no pathologies are involved)

    • @corn8591
      @corn8591 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      @@paolomarsico607No this is actually quite an objectively idiotic take. It requires a distinct lack of self awareness to project your own personal standards and lifestyle unto others, to then judge them for being inadequate at the things you have deemed important. It’s great that you find fulfillment in exercise and enjoy building discipline and work ethic through that practice. However, that does not mean that everyone else needs to be like you or they are lazy and not pushing themselves hard enough- in the direction you have dictated is best for them, mind you. It’s asinine and incredibly unhelpful, especially to people like this who are clearly pushing themselves even when they fall slightly short of your own expectations. Shame is not conducive to growth in any avenue, encouragement is. The dude you are replying to is correct that success is not only relative, but also subjective. You don’t get to set goals for someone else and then look down on them when they inevitably ‘fail,’ because you have no clue what they personally are working towards in the first place, and seemingly don’t care lol. Let people celebrate small wins and celebrate your own; if exercise were truly just about personal fulfillment and discipline for you, you shouldn’t gaf where other people are in their personal journeys with it if they even decide to utilize fitness in that same measure. So celebrate and practice minding your business when others do the same over something that seems so far beneath your expectations. Empathy truly is not that hard, bro.

      It’s easier for young girls even when they don’t intentionally exercise their upper body, in middle school the girls with literal twig arms could get at least 5. Once you’re in your 20s it gets much more difficult. 15 is impressive though.
      I’m 23 and can pick my 200 lb dad up off the ground, which is more than twice my weight, I can sling a camp pack that weighs as much as me onto my back, I’m a great rock climber, but I can’t do a pushup. It’s not that I’m not strong or have bad form, it’s just that the muscles I’d need to engage to do a push up aren’t enough to push-up my body weight. I can do pull-ups (which involve my back muscles and biceps/forearm and involve more of my entire body weight than push ups), but not push ups which have more to do with the triceps (back of the upper arm), pecs and abdominal muscles. I don’t really need those muscles to be as strong as the others anyways, rock climbing requires me to pull myself towards the wall and doing physical tasks in daily life doesn’t require the weaker muscles that keep me from doing a push up to be that strong

Some days I can barely do 3, but then I rest and happens that the next time is easier. So idk just that, train little by little when you have the time, I hope one day I'll be at my fullest with calisthenics or sum. But just one detail, my body is thin and "athletic" so I guess that helps and makes me improve maybe faster than others and is not my case that I want to lose weight, so don't frustrate, little by little. My ass can’t do a normal push up no matter how hard I try, my form always breaks, I have to do a knee variation. Its really just a matter of training, so don’t go too hard on people. Although I think we should encourage exercise a lot more as a society, we should do so in a way that doesn’t shame people, because frankly, that pushes them away (watching everyone say what I was struggling to do was easy and I should be able to do it certainly pushed me away from trying or improving). I’m training, so I’ll be able to do a push up some day (hopefully only a week or two) it’s just strength that never gets excercised in my day to day life.

    • @caleb7882
      @caleb7882 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! If you’re trying to get your first push-up, I think I have a more efficient way you can go about it. The problem with the knee push-up as a regression is that you can’t really scale it - one day you’re going to have to go from knee pushups to a real push-up all at once. Instead, try inclined push-ups, where you do a push-up in regular form, but against an elevated surface like a table, counter, or if those are too hard, even a wall. This shifts more of your weight onto your legs, whereas a normal push-up places most of your bodyweight through your arms. You’ll find you can do many reps like this at some level (even just against the wall), and as you progress you can lower the elevation over time until eventually you get to the floor, at which point you’re doing regular pushups! Hope this helps some :)

    I always thought I was really weak because I can only do 15-20 push ups in a row max, now I am to the point I can do it for 30 seconds straight but I still thought I needed more improvement but after hearing that people can bearly do 1 push up makes me feel confident also I don’t really believe that, I think everyone can do atleast 4 in a row

      I think this video is not showing an average person. Just remeber your friends. Do you have some, that is not able to do one push-up? All my friends I know can do at least 10 push-ups, even overweight. There are planty of people that can do hundreds or thousand push-ups.

      @Were talking about one set, meaning in a row without resting. nobody can do hundreds or thousands. Joe Rogan did 75 on his show and he's completely Roided out.

      15-20 is average for a man. These are females. The military requires 30 something minimum to pass. 20 is a good starting point because you can do proper sets.

    Push-ups are hard. You think you can do it, “oh that’s easy, just one?! No prob” but then when you actually try, you can’t! I’ve spent 3 months working out and I can just now this week do my first real, good form push-up.
    Started with pushups against the kitchen counter. When I could do 30 straight I went to knee push-ups and when I could do 20 straight of those I said hey let’s try it and I did 2… before collapsing 😂 progress is progress!

      Good form (correct form) is key here. Many of the people ik irl that claimed to do "oh so many pushups" did it horribly: knees rested on the ground, or hands in the middle (easier to lift), or my favorite: only going down like a couple inches and calling it a rep. Many of the people here claiming its so easy to do 100+ would more then likely fail doing it the PROPER form way.
      Yea, push ups are hard lol.

    everyone has their own process, you could still be doing knee push ups, that’s okay, as long as your in the journey, ready to take the next step

    Any healthy person can do a push up, don’t let your mind trick you into thinking you can’t because you can.

    In December i was able to do 10-15 push-ups in a row and now after working out for a few months, i can do 30 push-ups in a row not a massive improvement, but it's an improvement nonetheless.

    I do 200 PROPER push ups (or as I call them “push Earth downs”) a day. 10 sets of 20, while doing HIT workouts every other day. Been doing this since February 2022 to present. I’m 36yo @ 6’1” weighing 188lbs with less than 14% body fat.
    I was over 215lbs, or technically OBESE.
    I’m now in the best shape of my life. It only takes a little discipline and hardcore “can do” attitude. Stay strong Kings. 👑💪🏼

      If you can do 200 push up, you should do harder forms for intensity
