This winch installation video was brilliant. I struggled for an hour to get the bolts in until I found this and followed your advice. The "instructions" that come with the winch are pretty useless. Thank you so much!

Thanks very much. Mounting the winch to the baseplate was a challenge! Because the fairlead bolts were too long, I turned them around and have the nuts on the outside. Not as finished a look but it’s a work tool!

If anyone buys this from Harbor freight and ends up needing a new hand control , Harbor Freight does NOT offer a replacement . I ended up buying one from Northern Tool for the IRONTON 54129 sold by Northern , and it works like new . The new hand control even comes with the cord for just under $20.00 plus shipping . It was $29.00 to my door . I used the new controller to hook up dual controllers since my shop has an upper floor and I use the winch to open and close a trap door in the upper floor . I can now open the door before going up on the scissor lift , and can open or close it once I am up there with the other controller .

Are the floor anchors 7/8" or 5/8"? Looks like 5/8" but you said you drilled a 7/8" hole in the shims and also I'm assuming you widened the bottom holes on the plate?

Sorry for the delay in answering. Yes, I checked and the anchor bolts are 5/8 in as you suspected. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

I’m planning to do this so I can pull my tent trailer into the garage nose first (driveway is sloped). I’m getting mixed information on the web. Is this 1500lb winch able to pull a rolling object of, say, 4000 pounds? Are you pulling heavy vehicles? Thanks!

I can't say for sure if it would pull 4,000 lb. However, it had no problem pulling a 3,000 lb vehicle in. However, our driveway is not sloped. It is level.
Thanks for the question and really appreciate you watching our videos!

Is mounting to winch to the baseplate necessary? Or can one just mount the winch directly to the concrete? Maybe adding a mounting hole? my floor mounted winch wouldn’t be something I would use too often.

We're really not sure. We mounted with removable bolts so we could reuse the winch in other places as necessary. Thanks for watching!

How did you attach the winch to the base plate? The included bolts are too long.

If they were too long, we probably either cut them shorter or replaced them.

Would you be willing to make a set of shims? I don't have all that nice equipment, but trying set up a winch in garage to pull in project cars

Unless you are close to our shop, the shims would probably be cost prohibitive for you. We suggest looking for a shop or maker in your local area. Thanks for the question and appreciate you watching.
