Blender Tutorial: Godzilla Atomic Breath with Particles

  • At long last...
    This has been requested since my "Atomic Breath Test" video over a year ago. It was in the works back then, has been recorded, re-recorded, and re-recorded again, and somehow it is now done.
    Fat chance anybody is reading this right now, but if you are I hate making tutorials so hopefully this is the last. There's plenty of tutorials already out there for particle effects that go far more in-depth so please just watch those, use critical thinking, and apply those techniques to something new.
    Not everything has to be related to Godzilla to make sense and I am trying to branch my content away from it. Make this the tutorial to end all Godzilla tutorials.
    I am more than willing to answer burning questions and help a little further in the comments so leave those if you are confused.

    Hey man good stuff. You don't just show us how to get the desired effect but kinda educate us enough with this tool to do other effects than just what you showed us. that's a prime tutorial right there.

    Not gonna lie, I've spent three weeks in blender and have basically skipped straight to animating a low res 2014 godzilla model. Its rough, jittery, and not very good but I just want to get straight to animating a walk cycle or a roar or something decent. I definitely should start with the basics but man you gotta know how this feels

      I completely understand, and I’ve been there before. I know it’s tiring hearing the same thing over and over, but you really have to start with the basics. Walk cycles are an amazing starting point and will help you understand motion and physics that you can apply to everything else.
      I would also study the graph editor. It seems intimidating at first, but learning how it actually works will help smooth the rough and jittery animation you described.
      The biggest thing however is repetition. Try animating a walk cycle the same way over and over. Pick it apart each time, and understand the flaws that you discovered and find new ways to tackle them. Little by little you’ll see your animation improve. I’ve been animating for almost 10 years now, and about 90% of the things I make are total garbage even today. But each time I fail, I study what went wrong and how I can improve for when I try again.
      I’d love to direct you to some of the resources I’ve used, but unfortunately I’ve learned a lot of mine in person. Try looking for some online courses you could join, or find Pwnisher’s discord server. There’s a whole community of people that can help a lot better than I can. I’d even go looking for some Godzilla specific tutorials. There’s not many, but most of them are extremely helpful for getting a good start on animating just about any kaiju.
      In the end you’ll get there. It just takes time. When I first started, I felt the same way you did. And now I understand how to animate Godzilla better than humans, robots, animals, vehicles, you name it. It just takes time and dedication

      @@RutzFilms Thank you for this. It's all coming together slowly but I think by this this time next month I could have a whole walk cycle down. Maybe even add jiggle physics or something. I'll do what you said though and start with the basics. Animation is a lot of fun and it's also incredibly frustrating

    How did you achieve the glow effect on the scales? I made mine an emission texture, but its all pink and no black line like the animation above

    Quick question though, where’d you get the Goji 2014 model?

    • @RutzFilms
      @RutzFilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I could help!
      Honestly I’m not sure which exact model it is. It’s for sure from the SFM Workshop, which I have a tutorial for converting to Blender.
      Looking around, it’s either Lukiethewesley13’s version, or UB14’s which is uploaded there by M11. Both are similar as they are modified versions of the 2021 model.
      There’s a few different versions on the workshop, so I’d recommend testing each one out to find the one that works best for you.

      @@user-bj6on8fz8c you need to be working in Eevee, with “Bloom” checked in the render properties. Or, you can render in Cycles with a “glare” node in the compositor.

      @@RutzFilms In the render properties, I don;'t see the bloom check area and how do I use a glare node in the compositor? Sorry I'm new to blender

    • @RutzFilms
      @RutzFilms  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-bj6on8fz8c in Render Properties, make sure your render engine is set to Eevee. Otherwise the Bloom option will not show up. When you switch to Eevee, the Bloom option should be right under the Ambient Occlusion option. It'll be second from the top.
      If you're using Cycles go to the compositing tab at the top, check the box that says "use nodes", and use Shift + A to bring up your add menu. You can either search for the glare node, or go to "Filter" > "Glare", and place the glare node in between your "Render Layers" and "Composite Output" nodes. You may have to render one frame of your animation to see any changes.
      Since you're new to Blender, I would recommend other tutorials first so you have an idea of where everything is, as Blender is quite complicated. Unfortunately my tutorial is not quite beginner friendly, so definitely check out some others first, and try again once you've got a good grasp on the program.

    How do you make Godzilla's atomic pulse from Godzilla: King of The Monsters?

    • @RutzFilms
      @RutzFilms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s… a very good question, and I have no idea what the answer is. I’m sure there’s a way to do it using Blender particles, but my best guess would actually be a pre-made pulse clip overlayed on top of the shot.
      I’ll see what I can get done with it. If it can be achieved in a good way with Blender I may make one last tutorial on it

(edit: after looking at your channel, it's clear to me that you are a child and very new to this sort of thing. Couple of pointers for ya; learn some manners and understand that my tutorial is clearly not the problem, and maybe watch some donut tutorials first before attempting particle effects. Learn these things, and you may find solace through something other than skibidi toilet content.)
