Just brilliant. Watching the players back then playing on muddy parks with half the lines missing after 10 minutes. And you dont see players slipping all the time. These men were harder than todays, a mean look at george best going up 2 gears when he had to and those 6 goals were a joy to watch from bestie.

Thank you for showing the full highlights ,
My dad, John Fairbrother was no' 10 for NTFC,
Most clips only show a few mins,
It's great to see the full highlights. 👍

Nice to hear Gerald Sinstadt on commentary, but he seems not to know that in that abandoned cup tie against Luton Town, Denis Law scored his six goals for City NOT United!

Sad that Best became bigger than the game he graced & ultimately the marriage had to end. The scoreline flattered Utd, as N'hampton played quite well, but Best made the difference, he wasn't that overjoyed. I think he dreaded more headlines good or bad. He sees through all that & wants out of it. Wilf McGuiness was the manager? & former utd player when Best arrived.

@kevwhufc thats becouse the game was much harder then. The refs knew these were men that mostly wanted the game to go on instead of being stopped every 2 to 5 minutes, becouse its so easy to lose interest in the game when theres no flow to it. A watched a game last week between arsenal and some team and after 10 minutes i didnt know the score or have a clue what was happening and i watched it. I just lost interest, a free kick every 2 minutes. I remember a free kick and he chipped it in the box then went up 3 players and it was another free kick for who knows what? As it looked a great challenge the player was at least 4 inches taller and out jumpend the other two so the ref thought he must have been holding or pushing to out jump two men. It was pathetic, those men today wouldnt last in the 1960s and early 1970s especialy. It was maradona that got the rule changend from tackling from the back becouse of what he went through in the 1982 world cup. Every time he got the ball he was just taken out from the back as players could tackle from the back then. But becouse it was on the worlds biggest stage and he was brilliant in 82, but there was so many complaints from teams around the world and especialy the great european teams as they got it hard as well as italy won it that year. But maradona got lumps kicked out of him, i was just age 9 then but still remember it well as it was a great world cup in spain 82, maybe the best one i have ever seen. There was so many great teams it was hard to say who would win it. I thought brazil would have won it as they say that was the greatest ever brazil team not to have won a world cup. The team had talent all the way through it, but so did italy and france and germany, maradona although batterd and bruised becouse of the harsh treatment he got carried argentina alone with his skill, i remember he was hurted after another late tackle from the back against brazil and he still beat 2 or 3 players to then lay on a perfect pass for the big forward to score. That was the first time i knew i was watching some one who was special, and the greatest player in the world from then on till he quit. So officials watched maradonas ill treatment in spain 82 on re runs on video tape to see how bad it was to then decide to change the tackling from the back rule no matter how well players cover it up. And they watched and watched plus watched other great players and watched maradona play in his club leauge as well and that may have been alot worse as there was so much of it. And that was more than enough to convince the fifa grey suits that players couldnt go on charging in like that and getting away with it as if taking a shy. So any player that challengend from the back except with there head then it would be a foul. Even a slight push, in short the tackle had to be from the front and at the side.

@@alanmctavish4802 I agree nobody wants to see the referee stop the game every 5 minutes, nowadays its almost becoming a non contact sport , players ate getting yellow cards within the first 10 minutes then on tender hooks for the rest of their time, usually being subbed before getting a second & sent off.
But in regards to the Northampton v United cup game Fairbrother just had the keeper to beat but was fouled by the United defender from behind when he had no chance of getting the ball .
Even though Fairbrother just got up dusted himself down and carried on without waving his arms around or his teammates surrounding the referee, is testament to how different the game was back then compared to nowadays.
I hate seeing opposition players nowadays surrounding the ref waving imaginary yellow cards in his face, I think its awful.
Today's game is close to becoming a non contact sport.
But re the N'town manU game everyone except the United fans would have preferred to see the referee do his job in that particular game and give a free kick.
But he failed to do his job and bottled it.
In those days refs didn't stop start the games every 5 minutes
But in a situation like that I can't see how anyone would lose interest to see the ref give a free kick especially if the underdogs had scored, surely it would've made the game more interesting rather than watch the div one team win 2-8 , I can't see how that's better or more interesting than the 4th division team go 1-0 up in a cup tie .
I was 8 years old and at that game, the crowd were not happy with the referee at all.
Tackling from the back and not touching the ball has never been ok .
As for international games I'm not that interested I've always preferred club football.
Nowadays I'd rather watch my local team StAlbans city than a premiership game.
I hate the money the primadonas, VAR , the inconsistency of referees.
Lower league football is the closest thing to it was when I was growing up in the 60s ,70s and 80s .

@@alanmctavish4802feel better after getting that off your chest! I don't watch today's so called football. FA Cup no replays, that sums it up. The FAC was the greatest Cup in the World to win, including the World Cup.
