I was at that game, on the terrace under the main stand. Fabulous entertainment - every bit as good as these edited highlights suggest. Harry Redknapp's goal was surely the finest he ever scored. Such skill from West Ham on a typical Boleyn ground pitch...
Classic Matches, Thanks for this treat! Superb London derby between West Ham and QPR. Bobby Moore giving a masterclass and Hurst absolutely deadly up front-Allen and Bridges good for Rangers. Also great analysis of the game with Bobby himself and Jimmy Hill. Thanks again and RIP to all involved.
As a West Ham supporter that was a brilliant match from that season. Credit to QPR they came back from two goals down to draw at 3 all. Moore with that goal in the first half was the pick of the 7 (4-3)
The Ref and team that's conceded should be able to take the ball to the centre spot and kick off immediately to stop todays stupid "celebrations". This happened once (its on YT somewhere-a non league game/Cup tie) where the ref restarted the game whilst all the goalscoring side were still half way through their West End musical routine-result instant equaliser! I guess this was outlawed otherwise why doesn't it happen every game. The great Trevor Francis said he had two celebrations. One arm in the air or two arms in the air (like 99.9% of his era) Anything else was reserved for an FA/World Cup winner in the last minute.
Thanks for the upload. Great match and near-comeback by QPR who, strange to say, were relegated that season with the record low points tally of 18. Obviously quite a leaky defence. I bet the actual "ball in play" in this match was about 75-80 minutes, compared with the 55 or 60 you get nowadays. Worse pitches, less skill, far better spectacle.
Rarely did I think about the pitch, it was part of the season, the players just got on with it & got them thinking more & created good games on the whole. Football needs that grit of a battle, & tackling, that's the biggest loss in today's game, tho on Bobby's goal no one did tackle him as Bob said he'd have passed it.
They did exactly that ;recorded the whole game with Brian Moore commentating throughout then edited it to fit the alloted time on TV (highlights) with the commentry maybe re done in spots to correct mistakes (a wrong player named etc) Far better than today's efforts and done with none of the modern day tech.
I’m struck by how civilised the comments are. When this match was played I was but a babe in arms, but always liked West Ham, unless they we’re playing the Rangers.
Charles, a Black man at West Ham just before Clyde Best, untold racism at the time with more to come they were and are a massive statement by our club and a massive inspiration to Black people in Blighty at the time and today! COYI⚒❤
Truly, the Beautiful Game!
Superb both sides and marvellous after game interview and analysis.
A classic! Thank-you!

Had my first year as a season ticket holder at qpr that year, as eight year old, still going, am 64 now.

Thanks for telling us the end!
Look at how players celebrated goals then: a simple acknowledgement of a job well done. No antics.

@@infrasleepToo much lovey-dovey long goodbye/long lost lover nonsense goes on these days. Or them almost breaking the scorers' neck.
Is this the earliest surviving edition of The Big Match?
Fascinating!

Rangers best player and top goalscorer Rodney Marsh was injured most of the season, that`s why.
Not less skill. Not by a long chalk.
Great find. You Rs! Relegation will only be temporary ...
Now this is football.Attacking football. Is David Moyes watching!⚒️

Moore and Moore !!
Bobby Moore. Great pundit!
Fabulous match
i was there at this match
Ron Springett good keeper
The state of the Upton Park pitch,Imagine Mooro,Hurst and Peters on the manicured billiard tables the Premier League have today?🤔
That looked like a good pitch compared to the state it got into over the years, but not as bad as Derby's Baseball Ground.
@@PeterChelmsfordThe Baseball Ground was a remnant of the trenches at Passchendaele.
I didnt realise Ron Harris's brother played for QPR.
What strikes more most about this match is that both teams seem to be wearing white shorts and socks
Even in black and white I think the QPR hoops made teams distinguishable.
Im a yank. Interesting vid.
Question though... did the networks like record the whole game, comment on it then cut it up for broadcast later?

Brian was very shouty in the early days.
