I learn waaayyyy more watching your videos than from anywhere else. Because of your videos I have done my own maintenance and repairs on my travel trailer. By the way, I’m a 58 year old, single female. So yes, anyone can do it. Thank you so much! You have saved me tons of money and the repairs are done better than if I brought it in to the “professionals”.
Good job showing how to prep for caulking. I like that you spend a little extra time to ensure a neat job. The professional interview technique helps guide us newbies as well. Thanks!
Excellent. Agree with below comments. You should teach a course. I love the fact that you make your own tools when there isn’t one commercially available. I often do the same thing.
Excellent video. Making my new caulking tool today, thanks brother!!! I carry several Milwaukee M12 power tools on my rig including the M12 caulk gun. My arthritic hands thank me every time I need it.
Very interesting, we took our used 2013 Drv, to Twin Lakes RV in Lagrange, Indiana for repair work last month. Jay The owner replaced one of our water damaged bedroom slide out floors also. And then he also recaulked all our trim moldings on the exterior of our coach. He used Clear Geocel. 2300 MHRV sealant. He also adjusted 2 of our slide outs and then put all new brake pads on. And then also serviced the oil bath bearings. And then he had the exterior of the coach all cleaned up for us when we picked it up to take it back home. We were very happy and satisfied. Happy safe travels to you.
We are on the schedule to have Jay replace our DRV bedroom slide floor too. Our DRV is new to us but is a 2015. We have used Jay, Twin Lakes RV Repair 3 years ago and are glad he can help us again.

Can you go over the old life seal caulk or do you scrape it out every time
Hello I am about to do my trailer. I enjoyed your video and wanted to find out from you two since you both are full time RVR’s.This makes the 3rd year we have had our new baby and I can see that I’m going to need to start caulking. I was thinking that I needed to do the butyl tape kind of like what they have on the seals when it comes off the line, But from all the videos that I’m watching, I will need to take the extra butyl tape and then I will be caulking over that? I also see the sponge stuff up around some of our compartments. Not sure what that is. Looks like another issue in plan if I don’t caulk that. Anyway, how well did that silicone work for your husband. Is it something that he found He had to do every single year or did it last two or three years? And when he does his caulking, does he caulk every single seam? Top and bottom? What does he use up on the roof along the sides or do I need to have this done professionally. I’m sorry for all these questions. This is our second RV the first one was a used one. And I just took the caulk gun and caulked around every single window every single crevice that there was, but I didn’t really know if that’s what I really needed to do. I just know with our new RV I wanna make sure that I do everything right. And you seem to know what you were doing and I am so grateful for all of your videos. You can definitely tell you guys know the RV life and how to keep your RV in good shape. Can you please let me know. Love you guys! keep being awesome. You can also reach me better at bugluvr2@gmail.com thank you again.😊
Great information, I’ve found that using Acry Solvent to remove old silicone and other sealants is a dream. The old sealant just peels right off. Then I wipe it down with acetone and then denatured alcohol. Then the I apply Proflex, it seams to work well. I’m looking forward to a long term review on the life seal.
Probably would work pretty well. However, we have found this one, recommended by a repair dealer even better: Geocel 2300 Clear Construction Tripolymer Sealant www.amazon.com/dp/B07DB5NGTB?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzwattsonw-20&creativeASIN=B07DB5NGTB&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.EYAV249CG1RS&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
I was using Proflex for some time on our 2015 DRV Manhattan and then switched to Lexel Clear Caulk. I’m not happy with the cured look of either brand. Lexel tends to bubble under high heat and Proflex just has a rough look to it, which isn’t great when checking out the rigs paint job. I like the finished look of the RV Life brand. Are you still happy with this product. What’s your thoughts on the no silicone rule for RV’s and this product contains a mixed blend?
Have you ever tried #900 SOLAR SEAL this is all we used in the construction trade never seen any caulk work this good. And you can't get this at your normal box stores.
Since we're not getting any younger if you need to caulk. Grab an Albion B26 caulk gun from ABC supply etc. You will throw that old caulk gun in the trash immediately. The B-26 is a 26 to 1 ratio so it's much smoother and easier to use about $30
I used to use silicone caulk till.my friend pulled some off and show me just how weak it is and how it does not bond well. Silicone is crap . Polyurethane is king of caulk. Simple. ..number 1 rule for RV is NO SILICONE ON YOUR RV
@@WattsOnWheels that what I use as well. To tool it I use some soapy water on my finger and it smooths out nicely. Can also use mineral spirits but I the soapy water seems to work fine for me.
Got a new to us toyhauler and also have a class a, it's about time to go over some areas and make sure everything is sealed, definitely making me one of these tools, genius idea my good sir. Great video and thanks for the tip. Safe travels brother 👊
Congrats on the toyhauler. We just bought some new tools from Amazon that was suggested by someone else to scrape caulk. Gonna try those out. Also, in the next month or two we are going to be trying out GEOCEL 2300 CLEAR Construction Tripolymer Sealant 10.3 oz. Cartridge. Barry Ferguson from Whiskey Mountain uses only this brand. You can find both in our Amazon store. www.amazon.com/shop/wattsonwheels/list/EYAV249CG1RS

One of the best videos on caulking and removing. Thanks!
Thanks jscriv. We appreciate you watching. Look for Part 2 - 9 months later.

Thanks for watching Steve. As far as making tools, sometimes it works out better and price is usually better.🔨💪😁
Thanks Dave you put up the best video on recaulking a camper yet
Glad you found it helpful

Nice to get great service isn't it? We used the 2300 caulk before but life seal seems to be working better for us.

Hi Lori...I've emailed our answers to your questions.
We sent an email to you with answers to your questions.

Good stuff Hard Truth. I've got some caulking to do pretty soon. I'll check it out.
Thanks Dave. Great ideas.
Very welcome
I'm a roofer by trade. Best sealant I've used is mulco supra expert. Thermoplastic sealant. Can stretch 1400 percent. Can get it in multi colors.
That stretch is needed. I'll check in to that. Thanks
So what caylk would you recommend for a painted aluminum horse trailer ?
Thanks in advance.
Geocel 2300. I'm not a pro, but that's what I like. bit.ly/Geocel2300

Love the scraper.
Has come in handy for multiple things. Thanks for watching.
Have any 2022 updated caulk suggestions?
Not really, but going to try some Geocel construction caulk as recommended by Whiskey Mountain RV. Lexel is so difficult to work with.
@@WattsOnWheels keep us updated!
Thanks Dave

Hey Brian, we are away from the rig right now. I'll get some pics and post a video of our current thoughts of the product.
Sounds good. Thank you!

Product with silicone doesn’t adhere and doesn’t last long due to the off gassing
Yep, silicone deteriorates.
I just watched a video that said never spend $25 for a tube of rv caulk lol.
Lots of videos out there. Thanks for watching.
We have to get this chore done next week. I'm not looking forward to it.
I hear ya. Just had the roof recaulked. Have fun.
4 thousand bucks is not going to me what i want
Hope something comes up over time.
What an obvious ad if I’ve ever seen one. $25 a tube, come on.
We did not receive a penny for this. Just going by what the pros and others have recommended.
