    Thx for another great video! I just replaced my entire roof and used pvc boards (bumpers for vents) and marine sealant to eliminate the use/need for dicor. I hope to reduce the regular maintenance.

    If it takes 30 days to dry, but I have no shed or storage to keep my RV inside, what should I do? Would it still dry correctly if it does rain?

      Approximate Lap Sealant Cure Times: (approximate times for 50-70° F weather)
      5 Minutes - Skins over
      4 Hours - Waterproof
      48 Hours - Cure 80%
      30 Days - 100% Cure

      According to Dicor, "At 77° with 50% relative humidity skin time is 30 min., tack free in less than 1 hr. and dry in 2 hrs. May take several days to fully cure."
      I don't necessarily trust what manufacturers say about their own products over real world experience. But I am curious where you get your numbers from?@@yourrvspecialists

  • @MikeCris

    Is it necessary to remove the old sealant...or can you clean it and seal over it?

    • @yourrvspecialists
      @yourrvspecialists  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      You can still over it as long as you go past the original surface is what we like to do that way you’re grabbing new parts of the roof material. Just make sure to clean the old sealant very well with a low-grade body solvent cleaner or denatured alcohol.
      Make sure to remove anything that is loose and then also double check your moldings to make sure that there is sufficient enough screws in them and that they’re tight and not moving. The end of the moldings and then look at some of the other videos we have you’ll see where we’ve added like additional screws and how we do it will better help you as well.
      Thanks so much for watching and for asking the question.

    Careful with your Dicor. They make one that has to be used with a primer before using on TPO, rubber etc. It is not solvent based, I think. I have a battery powered caulk gun which is handy for old arthritic hands.

    I did my first on an alpha membrane roof with alpha lap sealant and 12 over night it has wrinkles around the edge will it still flatten out or did I do something wrong?

    I had a hard time removing the dicot to replace a plastic skylight on a 5 year old trailer. After I got the skylight off, I saw that I had also taken the membrane with it. I tried hard not to. I wonder if it possible to not do that.

      omg...What did you do then? We just redid the screw insert trim, and boy were we scared of tearing or cutting the roof membrane.

      @OurBackwoodsHomestead 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm replacing my skylight as we speak...wondering the same thing. Part of my rubber membrane came up while using a puddy knife.
      I put Interabond Tape up under the membrane then Dicor to make it stick.
      I'll use Byule Tape on the flange & Dicor to seal everything.

  • @ItchyKneeSon

    How long should someone expect this sealant to last before requiring a reseal?
    Can it be coated over with any products to extend its service life?

    • @yourrvspecialists
      @yourrvspecialists  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on sealant upkeep, normally 3-5 years if cleaned and sealed right.
      You can coat over the sealants and that will protect it for the long haul.

    While I appreciate the info in the video, it doesn't seem applicable on my old camper where every screw head is rusty. I'm thinking I would have to replace every seam screw with stainless and then apply this system.

      You had water infiltration. You should probably check to see how far the water damage went. Then just put new screws in once you have made your repairs, if necessary.

      Trucks and cars have a solid metal one piece roof. RV roofs have many joints that come together and often use EPDM rubber as well. They're built using cheaper materials so they can sell them at a competitive price.

    I discovered there's two different types of lap sealant depending on what kind of roofing material you have, but I don't see any videos talking about that. The kind that says ultra sealant worked good but the kindness that haps free caused my roof to bubble up. There is a video on how to tell what kind of roofing material you have.

    Why don’t you just use a paint brush to spread it evenly?
