My list in no order: As I Lay Dying Killswitch Engage Shadows Fall Lamb of God Trivium Bleeding Through Unearth Bullet for My Valentine The Dillinger Escape Plan Converge All That Remains Overcast Aftershock Earth Crisis Hatebreed
RasenTensho448 I say, Who cares? Besides I just call them groove metalcore to make everyone happy. They are probably the only band that I can name of this type so might I again ask, WHOOOO CAAAAAREEEESS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Killswitch engage is the first metal band that made me explore the metal genre so I still love them if it wasn't for them i would of never gotten into sludge metal doom, metal and more
Rockmusicforever90 I agree killswitch engage also got me through some tough times when my ex's hurt me the end of heart ache and my last serinade and even my curse helped me heal
Some of the best metalcore came out of Massachusetts : Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Overcast, Shadows Fall, Diecast, Aftershock, Bury Your Dead, The Red Chord, and All That Remains. and others i cant think of
For me in no particular order; Killswitch Engage, Architects, Parkway Drive, Bury Tomorrow, Unearth, Atreyu, Darkest Hour, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Bring Me the Horizon, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Heaven Shall Burn, All That Remains (early records), Northlane, Norma Jean, The Devil Wears Prada, Every Time I Die, The Amity Affliction, Lamb of God, Motionless in White, Miss May I.
Trivium, bullet for my valentine, all that remains, as I lay dying, still remains, chimaira, shadows fall, lamb of god, rise to remain, killswitch engage, parkway drive, early sylosis, caliban..all amazing bands..
I was mainly refering to their earlier work although they have always had a thrash element to them in some form. :) but yeah I agree. I hope the new albums is good.
10. Atreyu 9. A Dozen Furies 8. As I Lay Dying 7. It Dies Today 6. Shadows Fall 5. I Killed The Prom Queen (pre 2014) 4. KsE 3. All That Remains 2. BFMV 1. Trivium
CKN, you need to check out August Burns Red some more. As a metalcore band, they are just about as good as you can possibly get. They're melodic, heavy, soulful at times, and just a super powerful band in general.
I think the message to take is that metalcore isn't actually a bad genre. Its just fill of crappy, unoriginal, watered down, commercial crap with distorted guitars and growled vocals, thinking its metal. Really its just an excuse to mosh as they seemingly must go verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-chorus. But when you have original, aggressive, and progressive metalcore, its actually pretty decent.
"Its just fill of crappy, unoriginal, watered down, commercial crap with distorted guitars and growled vocals, thinking its metal." Does not every genre have this problem?
OfficalRavoos Probably, but not to the extent that certain genres have. Like, if every popular hip hop artist raps about money, drugs, sex etc, you can't be mistaken for hating such an unoriginal genre full of money, drugs and sex in the lyrics and nothing else. Likewise, metalcore is the commercial side of metal, and all the popular bands sound exactly the same, and unfortunately their sound is unoriginal, repetitive and watered down. You see it in metalcore and hip hop the most I think nowdays. Sure there are good artists out there, but they aren't the popular ones because the commercial crap sells.
Goabnb94 True, but Metalcore IMO allways have some of the most greatest lyrichs I have read. If you look past mainstream bands you will see bands like Heaven Shall Burn, Bring me the Horizon (they are a bit more metalcore than deathcore with the latest albums) and The Agonist (I don't care what people are saying. They are Metalcore.)
All the scene bands of the late 2000s such as Asking Alexandria and Attack Attack were like this and shit, but the stuff before that and some 2010s bands are pretty damn good.
In no particular order; Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Only Living Witness, Integrity, All Out War, Overcast, Darkest Hour, Trivium, As I Lay Dying
Top ten metalcore bands... A difficult question. 10. Bullet For My Valentine 9. Parkway Drive 8. Unearth 7. The Human Abstract 6. Of Mice And Men (Please still respect me ;-;) 5. Killswitch Engage 4. As I Lay Dying 3. Trivium 2. For Today 1. August Burns Red
You know, I see quite a few comments on this video that mention OM&M as one of their top 10 Metalcore bands. Although I don't find them to be one of the best, I have massive respect for people who like that band because they're not all that bad. If we made a sub-genre called "popular metalcore", then OM&M would definitely be one of the best bands in that sub-genre.
I don’t have a top 10 list but I created a playlist on Spotify containing these songs: 1. This Calling - All That Remains 2. Six - All That Remains 3. Redefined - As I Lay Dying 4. The End Of Heartache - Killswitch Engage 5. My Curse - Killswitch Engage 6. Hey John, What’s Your Name Again? - The Devil Wears Prada 7. Dez Moines - The Devil Wears Prada 8. Love Me Dead - Ludo 9. Bother - Stone Sour 10. Through Glass - Stone Sour 11. Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr - Trivium
Some Metalcore bands I like and respect As I Lay Dying Killswitch Engage Parkway Drive Bullet For My Valentine Avenged Sevenfold (first 2 albums) Trivium The Devil Wears Prada Like Moths To Flames Asking Alexandria (Early) August Burns Red Demon Hunter
Hey it's been awhile since I made that. Sorry if my dumbass didn't know a lot of metalcore bands sorry. Chimaira is my favorite metalcore band if you have any other metalcore bands for me to check let me know. I'm more into melodic death metal and other genres.
Early/True/Heavy Metalcore Himsa It Dies Today Unearth Poison The Well Shai Hulud Converge Integrity As I Lay Dying Bleeding Through Eighteen Visions Trivium Every Time I Die From A Second Story Window Symphony In Peril Caliban (Not in particular order, when Metalcore was serious)
Wait...did I hear that right!? You were a vocalist?!? We must hear some material bro!!!! That just makes me want to meet you in person even more dude, much respect!
Dennis W I think you either don't like Metalcore or you have specific list of favourite Metalcore bands...(I'm saying this because I found your comment "Shitty List" a lot of times here).. #helloFellowMetalhead #noOffensePlease #justMyOpinion
My Top 10 Metalcore band. 1.Parkway drive 2.August burn red 3.Breakdown of sanity 4.Trivium 5.Bring me the horizon (They bring me to metal) 6.Feed her to shark 7.As i lay dying 8.Killswitch engage 9.Bullet for my valentine (Early) 10.Unearth
I agreee with your list CKN, specially with the Mass Scene that help put metalcore to the masses. I think the Orange County region deserve an honorable mention (Bledding Through, 18 visions, Throwdown, etc). Himsa from the NW is a tremendous band also as well, and from germany Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn are great bands that deserved some credit.
In no particular order: As I Lay Dying Unearth Darkest Hour Killswitch Engage Norma Jean Poison the Well Parkway Drive Shadows fall Johnny Truant Path of no Return
Lamb Of God meld elements of hardcore and metal and have breakdowns and thrash riffs. if any other band played music like lamb of god people call them metalcore but for some reason no one calls lamb of god metalcore.
hell yeah. We Are The Romans is one of the best albums ever. that would be cool to see CKN do a review of that album even though it came out in '99 i think
Idk but when the first band that appealed to me with unclean vocals would be Kill switch Engage and the Comeback Kid. I say Kill Switch Engage because of WWE wrestler CM Punk.
I'm so glad you included Shadows Fall in this. The Light That Blinds was the first metal song that I ever heard. Without that song I probably never would have discovered this amazing genre of music.
Just about every band you mentioned, I agree are some of the BEST in the metalcore game!!! I'm gonna need to check out Ringworm and Overcast though. Other than the ones you mentioned, the rest of the metalcore bands I think are great include: Bullet for My Valentine (tied with All That Remains for my favorite metalcore band), Devil Wears Prada, Norma Jean, Chimaira, Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red, Escape the Fate (minus the first album), Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen, In This Moment, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Underoath, Nevada Rose, Our Last Night, Horse The Band, We Came As Romans, and When Kingdom Falls (local band from my area).
I listen to a lot of metalcore and some of my favorite metalcore bands are August burns red, we came as Romans, the color morale, the ghost inside, our last night (earlier work is more metalcore), Northlane (with Adrian), the amity affliction, parkway drive, the word alive, of mice and men, bring me the horizon, the devil wears Prada, and some others. I was introduced to the genre from Shadows Fall, All That Remains and bullet for my valentine in the mid-2000's but I didn't really start listening to metalcore until I heard We Came As Romans, bring me the horizon and Of Mice and Men.
Killswitch Engage is the band that really got me into metal music. It's one of my favorite bands and without them i might not have ever broken into this heavy and diverse genre i love.
My favorites are shadows fall, Lamb of god, and early avenge sevenfold. I also just got the burn the priest record (Which became lamb of god). It's more punk than their later stuff.
Not in Order Lamb of God Hatebreed As I Lay Dying Chimnara Darkest Hour Bullet for my Vallentine Breakdowns of Sanity Killswitch Engage Integrity Shadowfall
Gave me a couple bands to check out. Trivium's Ascendancy was one of the best metal albums of all time in my opinion and that's why they should be on any list like this. KSE definitely a no-fail to see live. I saw them here in Portland with Shadows Fall when KSE was on their Alive or Just Breathing re-do tour after Jesse came back. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
Ever since I stepped back and decided that there are actually very few bands that truely "suck" and what really matters about music is the emotion--be it happiness, sadness, anger, whatever--that it conveys or makes the listener feel, the happier I have been. Just let people listen to what they like. There is no reason for hate.
I literally had to do this exact same thing. grew up on classic rock.. became a hardcore metal head. specifically metalcore. a little bit of more technical stuff on the side. because I absolutely love guitar. but yeah, I took a step back from my elitism, and I am overall happier listening to a lot more music now.
Converge, Zao, Demon Hunter, Every Time I Die, Heaven Shall Burn, Despised Icon, 36 Crazyfists, From Autumn to Ashes, The Agonist, Bleeding Through, War From a Harlot's Mouth Just to name a few of mine.
Some metalcore bands not mentioned on here that are definitely worth your time if you are new/cynical about the genre: Darkest Hour Underoath Heaven Shall Burn Bleeding Through Starkweather Misery Signals 7 Angels 7 Plagues Cave In Norma Jean Disembodied Hopesfall Zao Poison the Well Integrity Protest the Hero (their earlier stuff was more core than their later stuff, but great band) Prayer for Cleansing (basically the band that came before BTBAM) Blood Has Been Shed (Howard Jones' first band) The Chariot Demon Hunter Training for Utopia Coalesce
Finally someone that made a useful metalcore bands list... Everyone listens to gay metalcore nowadays... You sir have a real metal taste... Real metal must be hardcore based and old school sounding... Could you list those band names so i can check them out later? Plus i would love that you make more top 10's... (Melodic) Death metal top 10 would be awesome
My list: (No particular order of my top favorite, but definitely the ones I would look back on the most) Dillinger Escape Plan, All That Remains, Of Mice & Men, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Bullet For My Valentine, Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, Wovenwar, and Lamb Of God.
In no particular order with Best Album As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us Misery Signals - Controller Currents - The way it ends Polaris - The Death of Me Killswitch Engage - The end of Heartache Parkway Drive - Horizons/Killing with a Smile August Burns Red - Messengers Architects - Hollow Crown Trivium - Ascendency All that Remains - The Fall of Ideals
Fuck ya! LOVE this list! My favorite bands do tend to be lots of the metalcore thatre actually METALcore and might even have a little thrash influence rather then the trendy kind youd see on Warped Tour (I don't even consider most of em metalcore tbh) but As I Lay Dying, Shadows Fall, Overcast, Unearth, Lamb of God, Trvium's 1st 4 albums, and Killswitch are just FANTASTIC... some bands that I would slide in are August Burns Red and Parkway Drive as well... they may have a little appeal to fans of the Warped Tour bands but at the same time are very unique within the genre... A new metalcore band Im excited for is a band called A Breach of Silence! Both their albums (especially their 1st one) are just AMAZING... Blending power metal, metalcore, and 80s themed metal, theyre definitely a band I recommend for metalcore fans... Battlecross is an awesome new one as well
I subscribed strictly for your number 2 on the list. if I had to pick a favorite, it wouldn't be as I lay dying or lamb of God, as much as those bands have helped develope my writing as a guitarist, unearth is just bad ass. good decision on shadows fall too. I like you haha. I could talk to you for fucking hours.
This is my Top Metalcore bands list (feel free to hate on it). 10. Architects: Although I didn't get into this band until I heard their latest album, I definitely felt the emotion they put into their lyrics along with their music in general. Lost Forever // Lost Together will always remain as one of my top favorite Metalcore albums of 2014. 9. As I Lay Dying: I enjoyed a couple songs from them and they really had an amazing sound to them. It felt raw, it felt powerful, it felt many other things I can't even imagine. This band definitely helped me open up to other Metalcore bands with the similar kind of sound but more powerful (in my honest opinion). 8. Northlane: This band didn't catch on to me at first, but after hearing "Quantum Flux", I found something with them that I couldn't ignore. This band really tried to take a different direction with their music and for the most part managed to do that. Plus I can't help but respect the lyrics of their songs as well. 7. In Hearts Wake: Their album "Earthwalker" was pretty decent, but "Divination" is the main reason why I love the living shit out of that band. It really made them stand out as one of the most underrated yet talented Metalcore bands out there. The vocals were fucking crazy, the production was well sounding and still kept that raw flavor that the band had, and the music itself was very well written for your usual Metalcore band. If you haven't listened to them, CHECK THEM OUT! 6. Bring Me The Horizon: I didn't like them very much, but then I heard "Sempiternal" (which isn't really a Metalcore album but still sounded really good) and my eyes were open to this band. Their EP and debut album I still hate, but the album "Suicide Season" had a lot of really good tunes on there for me and "There Is A Hell..." was also good, but not better than their second release. This is a band that not only caught my attention with a really well written album in 2013 but a band that also opened me up to bigger (and somewhat better) things so I got to give them credit for that. 5. Asking Alexandria: Now THIS band I know can't be something that people on this channel respect, but I respect the living shit out of them because they're the first Metalcore band I ever listened to and made me fall in love with the Metalcore genre. If this band didn't exist at the time I was introduced to them, then I probably would have never listened to Metalcore in the first place. Seriously, the songs they wrote just caught my ear and kept me entertained until I decided to keep an open mind and search for other bands that sounded better than AA. 4. Confession: This is another underrated band that I truly respect. They have that raw energy that a lot of hardcore influenced Metalcore bands also tend to have, not to mention that the songwriting is well done and the production of their two latest albums are spectacular. As far as originality goes, they don't really have it but they stay true to the genre itself which I feel is fine because I love it. 3. I Killed The Prom Queen: This band definitely made an impact on the Metalcore scene in Australia and continues to be an inspiration to many Aussie Metalcore bands. Their recent album "Beloved" I find to be the best Metalcore album of 2014 because everything about it seemed almost perfect. The breakdowns were crisp and clean, the riffs had just about the same amount of heaviness as the breakdowns, the production was phenomenal, the growls were fucking aggressive as hell, the guitar solos were done well, everything just seemed to work. The screams were also good, but I felt like there needed to be more growls and guitar solos in their songs. That's the only reason why this is at number 3. 2. ERRA: More of a progressive band, but I find quite a bit of their work to lean more to the Metalcore side. Especially Augment which was an amazing album that I just couldn't ignore. Not only were the growls and screams perfect, but the singing was awesome too. But the main reason why I loved that album along with their other material is because it felt fresh. It felt original and unique. This band (even without the original unclean vocalist) made me instantly fall in love with them and even open me up to more amazing music outside of my Metalcore comfort zone. 1. Parkway Drive: Might have been pretty fucking obvious on that one. Although I'm not a fan of their earlier material as I am of their more recent work, I still found it pretty good and had a lot of potential behind it. Then after hearing "Deep Blue" and "Atlas", I am convinced that this is the best Metalcore band I've ever heard in my life. The vocalist I feel has lots of emotion with his screams and growls, their chugs and riffs are entertaining as hell, and the hardcore elements they have in a lot of their songs are just mind blowing. At least for me, a lot of other people would probably consider them "another As I Lay Dying copycat" or some shit. But this band is the main reason why I still have high hopes for the Metalcore genre in general. That's my list everybody! Apologies for my biased comments on any bands that I like which you don't like! :P
MIW fan I would believe that AA falls under the category of both Metalcore and Post-Hardcore, but yeah I think they're a really good band in general. Reckless & Relentless convinced me of that.
theBOSpaladin101 Well Periphery doesn't really have that Metalcore feel to them in my opinion. They have djent parts in their music, but so does bands like Veil Of Maya and Born Of Osiris and they're not considered "Metalcore", they're actually known to be deathcore to most people.
havoren I have never once heard them be called deathcore, but definitely heard them be called metalcore. Most people really love Periphery (or hate them), so they don't really want them grouped with the bad stigma of metalcore, which is a genre I enjoy. THeir first album is definitely the most core out of all of them, but they still have plenty of metalcore songs on their newest albums. They have plenty of hardcore elements to make them metalcore, especially breakdowns. (Examples:The Bad Thing th-cam.com/video/0sNIbcqxYL0/w-d-xo.html Feed The Ground 1:11 th-cam.com/video/jbPoBHec9Pg/w-d-xo.html Make Total Destroy 2:09 th-cam.com/video/spCmStMOiHE/w-d-xo.html) It doesn't have to be 0000001111010101 to be a breakdown. They have plenty of hardcore elements to be prog metalcore
Great video!! Really like these types of videos - and your reviews obviously! :D I was really inspired to pick up some of these bands' albums... Two I already know and really like are Killswitch Engage and All that remains!!
Much agree with what you said about Trivium and Bullet. Trivium is my favorite band but their older stuff is way better than their newer stuff. I still enjoy their newer stuff tho. Luckily they redeemed themselves with the sin and the sentence
I forgot to mention Misery Signals are very influential to many bands today, and Port Amoral couldve been a tremendous band for Roadrunner Recorda, too bad they split.
1. As I Lay Dying 2. Killswitch Engage 3. Underoath 4. August Burns Red 5. Parkway Drive 6. The Devil Wears Prada 7. Architects 8. Unearth 9. All That Remains 10. Converge
I know you didn't mention them in the list, but my favorite is probably The Devil Wears Prada. They're the band that got me into metalcore and metal in general with their album Plagues. Some others that I really like are Lamb of God (which I usually just call a metal band), Underoath, Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Of Mice & Men.
I came back to this video for one reason. I commented on this video for your deserved respect towards unearth and it was pleasant to hear you mention them. however, I have thought about this today with your video in mind. August Burns Red should have made this list. I know that if you listen to messagers, their first album, it can come off as the typical (metal shit) that "metal heads", don't like. The way that they evolved after that album and until this very moment, has been one of the most amazing music from a notational, technical, emotional standpoint. I would very much put this band above As I lay Dying. which is a very hard statement for me to make, as I've been playing guitar for 15 years and love AILD riffage. if you haven't listened to them, do so. I'm assuming that you have because you seem to very much so know your shit. they deserve this list. As I lay dying had Christian principles, in my opinion they weren't true to themselves as good as the music was. ABR has been one of the most transparent bands in this genre I have ever seen. I am not religious, but in any way you approach ABR, music theory, the rythem of the band is also flawless. I loved your addition of lamb of god as well. one of my favorite bands of all time. I would like your opinion on this, because you seem like a very smart person. One whose opinion I would appreciate. thank you if you have read this.
As much as I drifted away from this brand of metal, it was a major segway to getting more into metal as a preteen-teen. I had goosebump forming levels of nostalgia pulling up BFMV's Poison again after many, many years.
My favorite metal-core bands would have to be Volumes(especially on VIA!!!), ERRA, Northlane, The Amity Affliction, Of Mice N Men, BMTH, We Came As Romans, Devil Wears Prada, Parkway Drive, Like Moths To Flames, In Hearts Wake, Old In This Moment, Our Last Night/Beartooth! Oh and attack attack(just kidding lol)
Similar list to this for deathcore? There are some pretty good ones out there amongst the shit, like aversions crown, the contortionist, veil of maya, newer carnifex, after the burial and born of Osiris.
My list would be Trivium, Parkway Drive, Unearth, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains (pre AWYCW), Lamb of God, In Flames( Id call their albums post Reroute to Remain Metalcore), August Burns Red, Miss May I.
In no particular order: 1- PWD 2-Wage war 3- Memphis May fire 4- The word alive 5- Architects 6- ADTR 7- Bullet for my Valentine 8- Bury tomorrow 9- August burns red 10- miss may i
I might sound stupid but I honestly thought Lamb of God sounded like Deathcore. Though either way, Lamb of God is badass. Just a suggestion, I think you should do a similar list to this one with Deathcore bands.
I think he doesn't edit it so he can get a first impression sort of video. He doesn't like scripting a lot of videos, because he wants to show his true reaction and opinion on something first hand, without having put too much thought into it, maybe because that makes him some...unauthentic. He doesn't want to read a script or cut out the way he might word an opinion. When he is shitting on a crappy album, he wants to capture his anger, without having to just say "its a bad album", he wants to word out how bad it is, not sounding like he is reading a script. When praising an album, he wants to capture his "finding the right way to word" his admiration. It also helps him put out videos quickly. As for the camera, maybe he can't afford one, but I feel he feels he doesn't need to have good video as his videos are about his audio opinion, not the video itself.
Pretty good list. Not 100% agree, but there were some pretty good albums on those years. You should check out Misery Signals. To me they're the best metalcore band that have ever existed. Pretty original stuff and they're soooo underrated.
Dillinger escape plan and lamb of god never really came across as metalcore to me but I definitely see the resemblance. Speaking of DEP, I've started listening to some progressive-ish stuff like tool and coheed & Cambria, any other recommendations for bands like these? For the record I'm not sure if they're really prog but they have a progressive feel and I didn't know what other genres they encompass
Why is it that Cave In, a great, phenomenal band, NEVER gets brought up for impacting metalcore or metal in general. Until Your Heart Stops was metalcore at its finest and people never mention it or Cave In because they're not as popular as these other bands mentioned. It hurts me
I got you man lol. Check out thy art is murder, the last ten seconds of life, float face down, rings of Saturn, a night in Texas, and fit for an autopsy.
I cant remember the name of the album, but the one with Cut Man by Unearth, Trivium's Crusades, and All That Remains' Overcome were the shit. Aslo, Killswitch Engage's As Daylight Dies, and Bullet For My Valentine's The Poison were God teir to me
Y'all gotta give props to Western Mass. That is, in my opinion, where metalcore really was created. Or, at least the style was honed in. I remember seeing overcast in the early 90s. That spawned kse, shadows fall, with turned to all that remains.
I know hardcore is short for hardcore punk but I want peoples opinions. Do you think hardcore has become it's own genre from the 70s/80s hardcore ? I fell like it changed so much from the first wave if hardcore it kind of lost it's punk roots. I love the first wave of hardcore punk, bands like bad brains and misfits, but I not a really big fan of the music they call hardcore punk today. It changed to much I don't even call it punk it just call it hardcore but when I refer to the first wave of hardcore bands like black flag, bad brains etc I just call them punk bands.
Suicidal Ghost666 Sometimes when people say hardcore they're referring to the New York hardcore style of bands with their slower tempo and slight metal influences, heck Metalcore started when NYHC bands put even more metal influences into their music. Hardcore is easier to say than Hardcore punk. There are still hardcore bands that still have that oldschool sound such as vitamin x. I'm lucky my city (Providence, Rhode Island) has an awesome hardcore and punk scene mostly because Providence a very culturally rich city due to RISD and AS220 and also because of the influence from the Boston Hardcore scene. You're guaranteed to find at least 1 music venue in every neighborhood in Providence. I almost saw DROPDEAD with Jerry's kids (a very important Boston Hardcore band) at AS220 but Jerry's kids had to cancel because one of their musicians got sick I think. I got a bit off topic. There are bands that still play in the oldschool 70s stye hardcore sound. I found some good late 70s style Hardcore bands on bandcamp by searching tag "oldschool punk".
Lamb Of God is more extreme metal mixed with thrash metal now. Not really metalcore anymore. But Ashes Of The Wake is one of my favorite metalcore albums though!
Hello coverkillernation, I think Lamb of God is Groove Metal + Metalcore + Hardcore Punk + Heavy Metal + Thrash Metal + Death Metal (I just mean to say Lamb of God are not purely Metalcore)... #justMyOpinion
My list in no order:
As I Lay Dying
Killswitch Engage
Shadows Fall
Lamb of God
Trivium
Bleeding Through
Unearth
Bullet for My Valentine
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Converge
All That Remains
Overcast
Aftershock

Hatebreed
RasenTensho448 I say, Who cares? Besides I just call them groove metalcore to make everyone happy. They are probably the only band that I can name of this type so might I again ask, WHOOOO CAAAAAREEEESS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
+RasenTensho448 They're more of a Melodic Death band
Shitty list
Enjoy!
thrashmaniac99 just my opinion. Lamb of god to me is groove metal but then again they’re pretty hard to pin to one specific genre
Killswitch engage is the first metal band that made me explore the metal genre so I still love them if it wasn't for them i would of never gotten into sludge metal doom, metal and more
Rockmusicforever90 I agree killswitch engage also got me through some tough times when my ex's hurt me the end of heart ache and my last serinade and even my curse helped me heal
check out acid bath.
Killswitch is the first for me as well. It's still my favorite band to this day
Some of the best metalcore came out of Massachusetts : Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Overcast, Shadows Fall, Diecast, Aftershock, Bury Your Dead, The Red Chord, and All That Remains. and others i cant think of

Lamb of God aren't metalcore they're groove
In my opinion they still have a bit of it to them.
Hey look, finally someone that agrees with that Chimeria is metalcore and not groove metal.
***** Trivium has some metal core elements, but the Shogun album for example is not metal core at all, it's like progressive thrash
I was mainly refering to their earlier work although they have always had a thrash element to them in some form. :) but yeah I agree. I hope the new albums is good.
10. Atreyu
9. A Dozen Furies
8. As I Lay Dying
7. It Dies Today
6. Shadows Fall
5. I Killed The Prom Queen (pre 2014)
4. KsE

2. BFMV
1. Trivium
Trivium always number 1
shitty list
I thought a dozen furies said a dozen furries at first
Fuck yeah glad to see Prom Queen get some recognition here
CKN, you need to check out August Burns Red some more.
"Its just fill of crappy, unoriginal, watered down, commercial crap with distorted guitars and growled vocals, thinking its metal."
Does not every genre have this problem?
+Goabnb94 Yea metalcore is one of my favorite genres. But's it's only good if it's actually the good shit not this generic horse shit.
10. Bullet For My Valentine
9. Parkway Drive

7. The Human Abstract
6. Of Mice And Men (Please still respect me ;-;)
5. Killswitch Engage
4. As I Lay Dying
3. Trivium
2. For Today
Glad to see OM&M, great band. People just hate them for their image and how Austin looks like a everyday old man emo, but he's actually an amazing guy
You sir are the most intelligent man in the world for putting August Burns Red at number 1
S3XYxFrost Yiss :D
+Joel Inzerillo miss may I should be on here and I would swap 4 and 8 around personally

Converge... Metalcore...?!!! Dude... Seriously...?!!
Hey it's been awhile since I made that. Sorry if my dumbass didn't know a lot of metalcore bands sorry. Chimaira is my favorite metalcore band if you have any other metalcore bands for me to check let me know. I'm more into melodic death metal and other genres.
+doctorDooK Trivium's early stuff is metalcore. Their new stuff is not.
For me, it's integrity.
Early/True/Heavy Metalcore
Himsa
It Dies Today
Unearth
Poison The Well
Shai Hulud
Converge
Integrity
As I Lay Dying
Bleeding Through
Eighteen Visions
Trivium
Every Time I Die
From A Second Story Window
Symphony In Peril
Caliban
(Not in particular order, when Metalcore was serious)
Anthony Navarro yeSSSSSSS
Wait...did I hear that right!? You were a vocalist?!? We must hear some material bro!!!! That just makes me want to meet you in person even more dude, much respect!
Trivium is about the only metalcore band that I really like.
Metal Dude Have you listened to August Burns Red, Phinehas, or Silent Planet?
1. Bring Me the Horizon
2. Lamb of God (if that counts)
3. Avenged Sevenfold (2nd album)
shitty list
Dennis W I think you either don't like Metalcore or you have specific list of favourite Metalcore bands...(I'm saying this because I found your comment "Shitty List" a lot of times here).. #helloFellowMetalhead #noOffensePlease #justMyOpinion
@@BeerAndHotDog xd
August Burns Red. That is all. Great vid CKN!
I find the lack of August Burns Red, Parkway Drive, and Architects to be disturbing
In no particular order:
As I Lay Dying
Unearth
Darkest Hour
Killswitch Engage
Norma Jean
Poison the Well
Parkway Drive
Shadows fall
Johnny Truant
Path of no Return
+Søren Eriksen ptw?....thats emo/screamo/post hardcore...
I wish people would stop saying Lamb of God is metalcore. They are a groove metal band. Get your ears checked.
They are both and more, dont put a band in boundries
Lamb Of God meld elements of hardcore and metal and have breakdowns and thrash riffs. if any other band played music like lamb of god people call them metalcore but for some reason no one calls lamb of god metalcore.
Their early records, like Ashes of The Wake are Metalcore.
anyone remember bands like Botch and Rorschach?
i wouldnt consider them metalcore since Botch is more Mathcore and Rorschach was more like idk like a weird early mathcoreymetalcore
Joe Nicolosi of course, We are the romans is masterpiece.
Also Cave In, better than any mallcore shit people here are talking about.
hell yeah. We Are The Romans is one of the best albums ever. that would be cool to see CKN do a review of that album even though it came out in '99 i think
J Nicolosi Now these are the real ones people should remember, not mallcore.
+J Nicolosi Botch are both metalcore and mathcore, they're basically piooneers of both.
Other than the ones you mentioned, the rest of the metalcore bands I think are great include: Bullet for My Valentine (tied with All That Remains for my favorite metalcore band), Devil Wears Prada, Norma Jean, Chimaira, Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red, Escape the Fate (minus the first album), Parkway Drive, I Killed the Prom Queen, In This Moment, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Underoath, Nevada Rose, Our Last Night, Horse The Band, We Came As Romans, and When Kingdom Falls (local band from my area).
escape the fate is more post-hardcore then metalcore, although they do get heavier.
I Killed The Prom Queen are fucking amazing! :D
mareo broter Yeah they are.
WE CAME AS ROMANS!!!
Everyone forgets about As I Lay Dying. They're my person favorite.
Not in Order
Lamb of God
Hatebreed
As I Lay Dying
Chimnara
Darkest Hour
Bullet for my Vallentine
Breakdowns of Sanity
Killswitch Engage
Integrity
Shadowfall
Shadows Fall*
Gave me a couple bands to check out. Trivium's Ascendancy was one of the best metal albums of all time in my opinion and that's why they should be on any list like this. KSE definitely a no-fail to see live. I saw them here in Portland with Shadows Fall when KSE was on their Alive or Just Breathing re-do tour after Jesse came back. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
Definitely some top tier metalcore bands would be bands like converge, the dillinger escape plan, & botch
Converge, Zao, Demon Hunter, Every Time I Die, Heaven Shall Burn, Despised Icon, 36 Crazyfists, From Autumn to Ashes, The Agonist, Bleeding Through, War From a Harlot's Mouth
Just to name a few of mine.
So glad you put Converge on the list
Do a band review on suicidal tendencies please! Or infectious grooves, or both.
Some metalcore bands not mentioned on here that are definitely worth your time if you are new/cynical about the genre:
Darkest Hour
Underoath
Heaven Shall Burn
Bleeding Through
Starkweather
Misery Signals
7 Angels 7 Plagues
Cave In
Norma Jean
Disembodied
Hopesfall
Zao
Poison the Well
Integrity
Protest the Hero (their earlier stuff was more core than their later stuff, but great band)
Prayer for Cleansing (basically the band that came before BTBAM)
Blood Has Been Shed (Howard Jones' first band)
The Chariot
Demon Hunter
Training for Utopia
Coalesce
As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, All That Remains's early work, and Killswitch Engage. I can't think of any else.
2 Really good metalcore bands, best imo are : The Devil Wears Prada and Parkway Drive ...Parkway drive is handsdown the best Metalcore band.
Jane Doe, Axe To Fall and All We Love We Leave Behind by Converge are MASTERPIECES!
In no particular order with Best Album
As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
Misery Signals - Controller
Currents - The way it ends
Polaris - The Death of Me
Killswitch Engage - The end of Heartache
Parkway Drive - Horizons/Killing with a Smile
August Burns Red - Messengers
Architects - Hollow Crown
Trivium - Ascendency
All that Remains - The Fall of Ideals
Integrity. Bloodlet. Cave In. Coalesce. Botch. Snapcase, Damnation AD.
Interesting list ckn.
AA is post-hardcore,but i like them
MIW fan I would believe that AA falls under the category of both Metalcore and Post-Hardcore, but yeah I think they're a really good band in general. Reckless & Relentless convinced me of that.
Yet you don't include Periphery, which is a prog metalcore band whether people like to admit.
theBOSpaladin101 Well Periphery doesn't really have that Metalcore feel to them in my opinion.
(Examples:The Bad Thing th-cam.com/video/0sNIbcqxYL0/w-d-xo.html
Feed The Ground 1:11 th-cam.com/video/jbPoBHec9Pg/w-d-xo.html
Make Total Destroy 2:09 th-cam.com/video/spCmStMOiHE/w-d-xo.html)
It doesn't have to be 0000001111010101 to be a breakdown. They have plenty of hardcore elements to be prog metalcore
Great video!! Really like these types of videos - and your reviews obviously! :D
I was really inspired to pick up some of these bands' albums... Two I already know and really like are Killswitch Engage and All that remains!!
One direction
Devin Atha not even close to metalcore or even metal at all! Let me guess, shit posting?
Now that is brutal
August Burns Red surely..talented band.
Breakdown of Sanity and Northlane are pretty entertaining metalcore bands.
Much agree with what you said about Trivium and Bullet. Trivium is my favorite band but their older stuff is way better than their newer stuff. I still enjoy their newer stuff tho. Luckily they redeemed themselves with the sin and the sentence
Adam D on Price is Right was fucking hilarious. Love that dude
Darkest Hour is really the only metalcore band I ever got really into, but I think they lean more towards the melodic death metal side.
I forgot to mention Misery Signals are very influential to many bands today, and Port Amoral couldve been a tremendous band for Roadrunner Recorda, too bad they split.
I only am connected to Killswitch Engage. But some bands I do listen to are Blood Has Been Shed, Times Of Grace, Seemless, and Light The Torch.
what about Botch??!?
What about Protest the Hero?
1. As I Lay Dying
2. Killswitch Engage
3. Underoath
4. August Burns Red
5. Parkway Drive
6. The Devil Wears Prada
7. Architects
8. Unearth
9. All That Remains
10. Converge
All you need is album 1, 2, and 4 by Trivium.
Converge is LIFE!!!
I know you didn't mention them in the list, but my favorite is probably The Devil Wears Prada. They're the band that got me into metalcore and metal in general with their album Plagues. Some others that I really like are Lamb of God (which I usually just call a metal band), Underoath, Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Of Mice & Men.
my top 10 would be
underoath
converge
every time i die
as i lay dying
lamb of god
norma jean
unearth
the chariot
code orange kids
killswitch engage
Finally someone mentions UnderØath, They are one of my all time favorite bands in general.
shadows fall, great band...ill def check out overcast and unearth...
Coverkiller you should check out Breakdown Of Sanity they're a pretty good metalcore band!!!
props for mentioning converge, every time i die, dillinger and shit
I don't consider Lamb of God Metalcore. They are Groove Metal with some breakdowns in their music.
Fallen agreed
Absolutely
Similar list to this for deathcore? There are some pretty good ones out there amongst the shit, like aversions crown, the contortionist, veil of maya, newer carnifex, after the burial and born of Osiris.
For me it's Blessthefall, August Burns Red, bury tomorrow, miss may I, As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engaged(Howard Jones era)
My list would be Trivium, Parkway Drive, Unearth, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains (pre AWYCW), Lamb of God, In Flames( Id call their albums post Reroute to Remain Metalcore), August Burns Red, Miss May I.
As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive
In Hearts Wake is awesome. I didn't know about this band before. Thanks havoren.
In no particular order:
1- PWD
2-Wage war
3- Memphis May fire
4- The word alive
5- Architects
6- ADTR
7- Bullet for my Valentine
8- Bury tomorrow
9- August burns red
10- miss may i
extremely shitty list
I might sound stupid but I honestly thought Lamb of God sounded like Deathcore. Though either way, Lamb of God is badass.
Just a suggestion, I think you should do a similar list to this one with Deathcore bands.
Everytime I die
Does anyone have an idea why CKN still uses an old type of video camera? and why doesn't he edit his videos? I'm a new viewer and just curious.
That makes sense, Thank you very much! :)
Pretty good list. Not 100% agree, but there were some pretty good albums on those years. You should check out Misery Signals. To me they're the best metalcore band that have ever existed. Pretty original stuff and they're soooo underrated.
Architects, protest the hero,August burns red and Polaris are bands id personally add.
Review the fall of ideals. That's a classic album.
Why is it that Cave In, a great, phenomenal band, NEVER gets brought up for impacting metalcore or metal in general. Until Your Heart Stops was metalcore at its finest and people never mention it or Cave In because they're not as popular as these other bands mentioned.
It hurts me
Favorite metalcore bands of mine would be
As I Lay Dying
Killswitch Engage
Trivium
All That Remains
Demon Hunter
August Burns Red
We Came As Romans
Hey CKN.Can you do a top 10 deathcore bands you like because I want to find good deathcore other than All Shall Perish.
I got you man lol. Check out thy art is murder, the last ten seconds of life, float face down, rings of Saturn, a night in Texas, and fit for an autopsy.
Thank you. I want to hear his favorite deathcore bands as well.
Born Of Osiris?
18FrozenAngels I like a few songs from them, but they're not amazing.
Ethan Demedeiros I suggest Impending Doom. Even though they are Christian, they are still brutal as fuck.
Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Northlane, I Killed The Prom Queen, Feed Her To The Sharks, are all my faves (:
How could you even mention between the buried and me on this list?
Austrian Death machine
only two good metalcore /deathcore bands I like is eighteen visions embodiment and upheaval and visions of disorder Converge Chimaira .
I cant remember the name of the album, but the one with Cut Man by Unearth, Trivium's Crusades, and All That Remains' Overcome were the shit. Aslo, Killswitch Engage's As Daylight Dies, and Bullet For My Valentine's The Poison were God teir to me
Mason Fries Don't forget alive or just breathing from KSE
Really, any Killswitch Enage album. They're all amazing.
Y'all gotta give props to Western Mass. That is, in my opinion, where metalcore really was created. Or, at least the style was honed in. I remember seeing overcast in the early 90s. That spawned kse, shadows fall, with turned to all that remains.
No ZAO??
Thanks for the info,I live in Philadelphia and we have a huge punk scene. Lots of people down here are still into the 70s and 80s style of hardcore.
Suicidal Ghost666 No problem! :)
Suicidal Ghost666 You should check out Gas Rag's Human Rights EP. Sounds pretty old school.
Lamb Of God is more extreme metal mixed with thrash metal now. Not really metalcore anymore. But Ashes Of The Wake is one of my favorite metalcore albums though!
The Devil Wears Prada
Nobody has said this lol
Hello coverkillernation, I think Lamb of God is Groove Metal + Metalcore + Hardcore Punk + Heavy Metal + Thrash Metal + Death Metal (I just mean to say Lamb of God are not purely Metalcore)... #justMyOpinion
