Howard is a great singer but when he joined, the heaviness was toned down so much and there's just no comparison to the powerful screams of Jesse. I was surprised to find out that Howard actually came from a much heavier track record in other projects. Alive or just breathing is their crowning achievement. I'm glad Jesse is back but I like that Howard comes back every now and then to collab either live or on "the signal fire", an incredible song. I learned all my screaming techniques from Jesse as a teen so I'm a bit biased also as a huge fan of Jesse Leach. I just feel like the heavy parts hit so much harder when he's here
When I saw a Killswitch Engage album ranking I immediately clicked. Killswitch Engage are my favorite band and I liked your list even though I don't agree with your ranking on some of the albums(mainly where you put As Daylight Dies). Putting Alive or Just Breathing at S tier was perfect, that's my favorite Killswitch album and perhaps my favorite album of all time.
Damn the As Daylight Dies opinion is sooooo controversial hahaha but damn I agree with Alive Or Just Breathing. That record is not only KsE’s best, but it’s definitely one of Metalcore’s greatest of all time. It holds up so well even to this year. The melodies, the breakdowns, the riffs… everything in that record just hits different. Anthemic choruses, heavy breakdowns, amazing melodic sections (every time I listen to The Element of One I get goosebumps, what an intro to a song.)
In general, you made a great ranking, imo. Here's mine (I haven't listened Atonement yet): 1. Disarm The Descent 2. Incarnate 3. Alive Or Just Breathing 4. As Daylight Dies 5. The End Of Heartache 6. Killswitch Engage (2000) 7. Killswitch Engage (2009)
Now that I've finally listened to Atonement (which contains the song "As Sure As The Sun Will Rise", one of their best ones to date in my opinion ) I think here's my final ranking: 1. Disarm The Descent 2. Incarnate 3. Alive Or Just Breathing 4. Atonement 5. As Daylight Dies 6. The End Of Heartache 7. Killswitch Engage (2000) 8. Killswitch Engage (2009)
@@Alex-Tremonti Cool. I've gotta check out their later albums. You've got that Alter Bridge profile pic, do you have a ranking of their albums? Thanks.
@@thebooger_boy4002 Definitely! Their latest 3 albums are awesome, specially (for me) Disarm The Descent and Incarnate. Two of the best albums I've heard without a doubt. And, yeah, always! Here I write you my ranking of Alter Bridge albums ;): 1. Blackbird 2. Fortress 3. ABIII 4. Walk The Sky 5. One Day Remains 6. The Last Hero
@@Alex-Tremonti I heard Blackbird before (probably like 1-2 years ago) and think it's a masterpiece but I think I heard ABIII afterwards but didn't really get into it and I guess I just stopped listening then. I'll make sure to check all those albums out. Thanks again. You're awesome, stay safe!
It’s hard to pick between The End Of Headache and As Daylight Dies but I’ll go with As Daylight Dies. Killswitch Engage Self Titled 2009 is very underrated and it’s not even bad. The only reason people don’t care to listen is cause the reviews on them.
Metal Trenches check out songs like “In A Dead World,” “The Return,” “Starting Over,” “Save me,” and “Lost.” The songs are good man! I heard bad reviews but I gave a try cause I wanted to listen to all albums and it was great.
Metal Trenches not your review since this is sorta new. I’m talking about the past. People really didn’t like it so others decided not to check it out.
I personally have nostalgia for disarm descent cuz I was maybe seven when that album first came out and I remember my dad was just blast that album in his truck so when I go back and listen to that album I always find a song and I'm like oh I remember that
ok had to see if you said anything about killswitch. Glad to see you do like them and you do mention they have melodic influences here or whatever. they're in my top 10 favorite metal bands of all time. judas priest, megadeth, strapping young lad, nevermore, between the buried and me, killswitch engage, soilwork, in flames, messhugah, mudvayne. I had another one I forgot lol. dying fetus is up there. oh Extol is one of my favorites. a Christian metal band I grew up loving. Undeceived is an amazing album if you've never heard it.
I'm kinda new with the band. I used to really hate the vocals, but once I got used to them I absolutely LOVE the band now! Especially Alive or just breathing! This album is insanely good. And I absolutely agree with your take on As daylight dies. Hot take indeed, but yeah, the album is overrated. From the few months I'm into the band this is my list 1: Alive or just breathing 2: Killswitch engage (2000) 3. Atonement 4: Disarm the descent 5: Incarnate 6: The end of heartache 7: As daylight dies 8: Killswitch engage (2009) The list changes, but the last 3 are pretty much the same
To me personally, With the first 3 Albums (Alive Or Just Breathing, End Of Heartache and As Daylight Dies) I struggled to find songs I didnt like. With everything that came after, I struggled to find songs I DID like. Those first 3 albums, Just like SlipKnoTs first 3, are them at their absolute peak.
I can see that. I kept hearing about how great Disarm the descent is and I really only like about half of the album, too many of the tracks blur together and I think on the earlier albums they were great at having each track stand on it’s own. Really don’t get the love for Descent, it’s okay. I always held the first three up high and I forgot how good As daylight dies is, they came out swinging with that album. Incarnate same thing as Descent, I like about half the album, but somehow I like it a little more than Descent. I think fans and critics were maybe a little overly positive since Jesse came back and I’m glad he came back but maybe they lost a little something when Howard left. And I’ve yet to hear Atonement all the way through but we’ll see.
I always thought as daylight dies was one of their best albums but relistening to their whole discography it’s not that good I think people also forget that This Fire as well as the Holy Diver cover are not on the original album. My ranking goes as follows. 1. Alive or Just Breathing S 2. Atonement S 3. The End of Heartache A 4. Incarnate B 5. As Daylight Dies C 6. Disarm the Decent C 7. Killswitch Engage 2 D 8. Killswitch Engage 1 D I also think that atonement is more consistent than end of heartache even though end of heartache might have the better hits but that’s debatable. Also Idk but I really dig incarnate its more spacy to me and different. Also Embrace the journey is one of my favorite songs. Last disarm the decent has some amazing singles but it’s very similar to as daylight dies as it has some of their best songs but is inconsistent. Turning point kicks ass though.
I haven't listened to the self titled albums or the latest one but I'd bump Disarm The Descent to an A tier personally. Everything else I'd agree with I will admit Daylight Dies is a weird one. I'd argue it has some of their best songs. This Is Absolution, The Arms Of Sorrow, My Curse, This Fire Burns and Holy Diver but everything else is very forgettable
Maaaan why'd you have to do Daylight Dies like that 😩 Daylight Dies, Absolution, Arms of Sorrow, My Curse, Break The Silence, Let the Bridges Burn and THIS FIRE are all 10/10s. My Curse, Arms of Sorrow and This Fire are all in my top 5 Killswitch tracks
1. The end of heartache 2. Alive or just breathing 3. Daylight dies 4. Atonement 5. The rest of them have a couple good songs, but overall are on a much lower level
My personal ranking: 1. Incarnate 2. Disarm the Descent 3. Atonement 4. As Daylight Dies 5. KSE 2009 (honestly interchangeable with ADD, incredibly underrated and probably Howard's best vocals ever; This is Goodbye is absolutely devastating) 6. The End of Heartache 7. Alive or Just Breathing 8. KSE 2000
There is no way on God's green earth that any of the killswitch albums with Jesse are anywhere NEAR the quality of the albums Howard put out with them. As daylight dies and the end of heartache are S-tier that's non negotiable.
Oh come on, no way? Alive or just breathing is an incredible album. I could understand that opinion if this album didn’t exist but it does and it goes toe to toe with the Howard albums if not better. It’s a classic for a reason. I can get behind your take on the Howard albums but I think it should also be acknowledged that Alive or just breathing is S tier.
This is super tough but I think I would order them like this: 1. As Daylight Dies 2. Alive Or Just Breathing 3. The End Of Heartache 4. Disarm The Descent 5. Atonement 6. Incarnate 7. Killswitch Engage (2009)
