Oh man. Metallica is one of my all time favorite bands. I have never heard of the until today 11/20/15. I have never wished for death not once in my life until today. This album was the worst thing I've ever heard. It was like a drunk guy trying to sing karaoke to crappy Metallica songs. I am just going to delete this from my mind and move on with my life.
I am a big Lou Reed fan, and like Metallica alright (I’m a Megadeth guy), and I think “Lulu” is up and down GREAT. It is not a metal album, but it is a killer Lou Reed album. It is written from the perspective of a woman btw.

Lulu is probably the greatest achievement of Metallica's career. The fact that they were able to make something that was worse than St Anger is a truly amazing accomplishment. I applaud them for this, it takes a lot of time and effort to suck this badly.
I just actually listened to LULU for the second time during my life. It felt like a musical marathon. At the end of it all you are very happy because you achieved something - probably?

With Lou Reeds help, this album could resurrect Metallica's career and give them hope of becoming a back up band...you all metal fans should be very happy with this...

I honestly listened to some of it, and, sure, its quite predictible and lyrics aren't great I guess (i dont care that much about lyrics tbh), but some riffs are nice, I honestly don't see why all the hate, its not even a metallica album after all, its just some collaboration between those guys. First heard it back in 2011. I was flabbergasted and quite shocked. Quite literally, this was also a time when I was fourteen and had just heard the (originally new) record Unto The Locust by Machine Head. Now fast forward three years later in late 2014 (December to be exact) and to my surprise, and to my friend's absolute surprise I actually fell in love with Lulu. Now I love Lulu, and the tracks on it, I still listen to it right now as we speak. I'm listening to Pumping Blood as I write this message and listen to this review. The only song(s) that takes me back still is Little Dog and Brandenburg Gate. Beyond those two semi-boring songs I love the rest. Frustration is fantastic, Mistress Dread is enlightening, Dragon is malicious and intense. Junior Dad is great except for the latter half where nothing really happens, and the other tracks are all thrilling as well. An enticing piece of work, 8/10.
I don't like mistress dread that much but I agree completely on Dragon and Frustration. I'd even say Lulu is both the best Metallica album and the best Lou Reed album since 1988.
I Bought this album, put it in the cd player, and after wasting 80 minutes of my life, i immediately yanked it out and threw it in the big green dumpster. what a horrible album!

Most of us Lou Reed fans would say Lou’s worst album was “Metal Machine Music”. Lulu seems to be hated by a lot of Metallica fans, but is pretty well loved by us Lou Reed fans.
The problem with LULU is that it's really a throwback to a much older era in pop culture, particularly American culture, where art music, and the arts in general, tended to be driven by ideas rather than aesthetics. Nowadays this conceptual-formalist approach comes across as empty, boring and pretentious, particularly when the ideas aren't that great in the first place, as is/was the case with 'Lulu'. Reed's art music projects are generally shit and Lulu simply falls in line.
Honestly I think this album gets a bit too much hate. Is it perfect, or even great? No. There are some big glaring flaws that are pretty hard to deny. But I can at least appreciate what they were going for here & can pick out some good riffs & lyrical concepts.
I even though I am a huge fan of 80s Metallica I have to suggest the reason why this album is so suckish it is because this album shouldn`t be considered a Metallica album but a Lou Reed album with Metallica as a guest band, plus he wrote most of the material in it. You also have to put in account that Metallica has had some decent(not good judging by their 80s standards) Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic that is not too similar to Lulu and they are getting older.
