HOW TO INCREASE YOUR GOLF SWING SPEED

  • How to increase your golf swing speed with Mark Crossfield. With modern golf clubs all using aerodynamics as selling points to help you increase your club head speed in your golf swing Mark and the gang challenge this idea to see just how much it really makes a difference to the everyday golfer. To increase your club head speed in golf allows for longer drives and golf shots so you can see why it is such a selling point for golf clubs manufactures but does it really make that much of a difference to your swing speed and ability to hit the golf ball further.

      New wedge vs old wedge. Is there really a huge difference in backspin?
      My wedges are wrecked yet am still able to get good control, with a premium ball, of course.
      So let's see if you can debunk the myth

    This is quite possibly THE best golf equipment video ever!!!! On a serious note, a flat face isn't very aerodynamic. Try a driver and 3 wood with the same length shaft and see what club head speed you get. There's less air resistance with a 3 wood because of it's smaller face. Many golfers can hit their 3 wood just as far as their driver yet it's shorter and has more loft.

  • @BeachBow

    I remember when the first Big Bertha drivers came out. Every time I tried to swing it, the moment the clubface started to close on the downswing, it felt like somebody slammed on the brakes. Just couldn't generate the speed I could with a smaller headed driver. But this was fun to watch!! Y'all are just a bunch of little kids in grown-ups bodies!! LOL! Keep up the good work!!

    What you actually don't know, and this is somewhat hysterical but true, is did sticking things on the club make it more aerodynamic? I say this somewhat in jest, but 'smooth' surfaces are NOT the most aerodynamic - thus the dimples on golf balls - whereby increasing the turbulence actually makes it faster through a fluid. If you take an extreme example, such as an underwater supersonic torpedo, extreme turbulence is actually introduced in front of the torpedo so that the torpedo can travel through the turbulence and not the water - a similar effect was long ago discovered by Olympic Canoeists whereby they secretly made the texture of their canoes look like golf balls and they were much faster - it was ultimately outlawed. You laugh at this stuff, but go try and hit a golf ball that doesn't have any dimples and see how far it goes - it is almost impossible to hit it further than 150 yards.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@seanpeacock5595 Anything's possible I guess. The thing to remember about aerodynamics is that it's a Cubic effect - and this effect really explodes in consequence about 60mph through air. If you want to see this in action, drive your car on the highway at 50mph and watch the liters / 100km on the dash show you the live data. Bring your speed up to 60, then 70 and then 80 (don't get arrested). You will see the massive decrease in fuel efficiency as you move above 60-65mph. The same is also true on a race track where you will watch an F1 car take a slow hair pin 45mph corner at the exact same speed that a road going sports car can do it at (no aero downforce effect) and then how they can do a 4.5G corner at 190mph (3Gs being Aero). And that brings us back to golf. For normal people, the club head is not spending that much time above 60mph being truly affected by aero - but the faster you swing (world long driving guys) the more effect there is - but still it isn't that big because of the tiny amount of time that subtle aero effects have to help acceleration. Far, far, far, far more important is getting a 1700-2200rpm spinning, 13-14 degree launching driver, and the technique to repeatedly launch a ball with these numbers, because it is the ball that is spending 6+ seconds at 150-180mph speeds where aero is everything.

    • @duffymoon5912
      @duffymoon5912 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul I think dimples on a golf ball are more about keeping it straight and in the air more than about the speed it travels. But I agree with you about the rougher surfaces travelling faster at these sorts of speeds. Hence why fast bowlers shine up one side (the slower side) of the ball to make it move in the air. At faster speeds it doesn’t make much of a difference (that’s why you don’t see dimples or rough surfaces on aircraft wings because of something called boundary layer effect).

    Cool video. I’ve swung my driver around 90-95mph for as long as I can remember. I went for a driver fitting today to see if a lighter driver would increase my club head speed. This was the first time I’ve been on a launch monitor since I had a lesson and started doing regular gym work. Today I was swing 100mph with my own driver and getting the best numbers I’ve ever had. So I didn’t buy a new driver and I’m definitely going to persevere with the gym and the lessons to increase my speed.

    Even if the wind resistance might be minimal but it's just like a race car changing the aerodynamics a touch it might only make point something to a lap time which isn't much over one lap but it will make a difference between winning and losing a race.
    So the tiny difference it makes with a golf club might not seem like much but if it's only two yards longer that number could put you right on a club that you're comfortable withand being mentally more comfortable could mean the difference between a par or birdie.

  • @arbeckWA
    @arbeckWA 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that the aerodynamics can increase club head speed by at most 1%. This also means that the slower you swing the less effect you'll see. It also allows the club makers to say up to 1.5 MPH faster, but of course that's only if you swing like Cameron Champ.

  • @ianpulham3624
    @ianpulham3624 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wind resistance is basically cross sectional area times by fiddle factor. In the days of small wooden woods, the air resistance was almost certainly less than much larger modern drivers. Secondly, air resistance is proportional to the square of the velocity. So slow swinging amateurs will benefit much less than fast swinging pros. 80x80 =6400, 120x120= 14400. 14400 / 6400 = 2.25.

    Tour players do a huge amount of resistance training , you need to increase your fast twitch muscle fibres , you need to train your body in the gym , no club has better aerodynamics over another , club head speed is created through good technique which you had but you need to recruit more muscle fibres fast twitch ones , you need to do like med ball throws / slams , heavy lifts , get more explosive as tiger woods would say

    Dan said it best when he said "...subject to strike." If you can't center the ball and keep it straight, no technology can help you. Your club head speed is 99.99% determined by how hard you swing, not how your clubs "slice through the air". I play with people who swing harder, have faster ball speed, and hit it further, when they hit it perfectly. I avg longer than they do because I hit it more consistently solid and straight. Haven't bought new clubs in 10 years because I just don't think I'll gain that much versus the cost.

    The thing they won’t mention is that, no matter how well they get the airflow to move around the club head, the actual face is the thing that hits the air first and that’s a solid construction traveling at 90 degrees to the airflow meaning that you’ll all but cancel out any speed gained with a nice clean airflow after this point.

    I thought ‘this is ridiculous’ initially. Then I couldn’t stop laughing. Then I remembered how I’d previously thought ‘turbulators’ were ridiculous (my job involves the study of aerodynamics) as I thought there’s no way they could make any difference to something moving at such relatively slow speed (as opposed to say, an aircraft propeller or helicopter rotor blade for example) given the small size of the turbulators and something called ‘boundary layer effect’. Then I read a ‘scientific study’, probably commissioned by Ping, on the internet (yeah, I know!) which stated basically that turbulators increase clubhead speed by approximately 2 mph for a 100mph swing speed.
    Then I watched this. Brilliant. I’m not an idiot after all.

    It would be interesting to see what the various marketing departments could come up with to sell that driver.

    @4:55 Beloved @AskDan , that is incorrect! 6 yadaz is clearly due to the force!! Not strike 🤗🤗

    I hope some of the companies tech/designer guys watch this. Surely there has to be a driver come out in the future with a Storm Trooper theme. 'Light years ahead of it's time - Let the Force be with you'.

    The surface of the face is not aerodynamic at all because it is flat to the air it is travelling through at all times when it is moving on the downswing. Behind the clubface is not aerodynamic either, because it is merely shaped the way it is to reduce the drag caused by the clubface disturbing the air in front of it as it passes through. Reducing drag is not always a way of making something more aerodynamic. If you really wanted an aerodynamic club head shape then you would have to turn the head around and use the cone effect to pierce the air it is travelling through. Smaller clubheads in drivers will be more aerodynamic because there is less volume / clubface travelling through the air. The same club could be given to 2 different golfers of equal ability, but with different staturess (let's say one is 5ft6in and the other is 6ft6in), and the taller could generate more clubhead speed because of the wider arc it is moving through, but it may also be less aerodynamically efficient due to the greater arc of travel at the same time. The shorter golfer would be more restricted in clubhead speed by having a shorter arc because of their shorter arms, and it would compound the aerodynamic efficiency because of this slower, shorter arc. Goodnight.

    EXCELLENT point, they are all 'aerodynamic' but I do think it was a Jedi mind trick that wouldn't work on if you'd used Twist Face technology. haha.

    Best laugh I've had all week, but after seeing this do not Know whether I would trust you for a custom fit gluing the shafts into heads.

    Love this!! 😂
    I always thought the aerodynamics thing was a load of tosh. If I was swinging at 700mph then perhaps I’d notice a difference.
    Clue- if Jack Nicklaus never worried about it, then it’s probably not that important.

    2 thoughts: 1) get the patent for "Storm trooper driver"... this is awesome. 2) clearly you have " no golf winter cabin fever" and Mark has lost the plot 😊

    As air resistance is squared with speed it will make a difference, at around 200mph.....
