One thing I found not addressed in your review (I would have expected it in "missing features" but didn't see it): Every comparison I've seen has shown that the Qoocam 8k is front-focused, leading to distant subjects being out of focus/blurry, which much cheaper cameras outperforming it for distant subjects. I have not, in the past year, seen any indication that this hardware defect was resolved by Kandao. Perhaps I missed something (because I stopped paying attention after a few months of seeing Kandao have serious hardware quality control issues) - is there a statement from Kandao that every camera manufactured after a certain date has had this front focusing issue rectified? Similarly - Numerous people have indicated that the front focusing issue worsens as the camera heats up. Apparently Kandao has even acknowledged it - but they have done nothing to remedy this major flaw in the optical design of the camera (improper focusing worsened by lack of thermal stability). A lot of people have reported issues with the battery failing/swelling - does Kandao plan to add an early charge termination feature that allows a user to sacrifice per-charge battery life in order to allow the battery's lifetime (in charge cycles/years) to be increased? Avoiding time above 80% SoC is greatly beneficial for lithium batteries - batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries for example (This is, for example, why Tesla vehicles default to only charging to 80-90% unless you override it prior to a long trip.)
Right Andrew! I was so disappointed with this camera the first few days I’ve used it back in April or so… I really forgot about it to be honest and wanted it to sell it on eBay or so … when I picked it up again a while ago I saw great improvements in image quality etc, due to firmware updates, so I decided to give it a second chance. Honestly I am still not satisfied with the sharpness of distant objects… it is way to blurry to use it in professional VR productions (I produce VR-tours mostly captured with Nikon D810 + 16mm fisheye)… such a pity… I wish Kandao could assign the sharpness problem and start an exchange program for faulty hardware (like VW, Apple etc are doing for their customers…). I was seriously looking at the Obsidian series but I’ll keep my hands off these (and the Kandao company for a while).
This camera suffers from what they call Thermal Defocusing. This was uncovered by other reviewers and they communicated this to Kandao, and of course they know this already. I had one and returned it instantly. After only about 30 seconds, the camera warms up, the lenses warm up, then everything in the massive central region goes blurry. The blurry results are clearly worse than any of the other 5.7k 360 cameras on the market. This is partly why this camera doesnt get recommended. Maybe there is some very rare odd senario where its ok, like maybe timelapse where the camera may not overheat on long intervals, but i would not bother. I returned mine, showed photo evidence of all this, they said, nope, this camera is working normally. I wanted a replacement, but they just refunded my money. That is a really really bad sign. I think it means they have no confidence if they gave me another one, it would work. I loved the idea, 1.7" sensor 8k 30fps, instantly got one. I own the Insta360 One X, the Evo, Gopro Omni, and some custom stuff, so I know exactly what this camera should do, but the focus issue kills it. Other people have said its simply blurry, but I think they didnt ever know why. They did quickly give a refund, so its not a total waste, but if you buy one be sure you test it hard up front to make sure. I suppose they may have some that arent screwed up, but mine, and other people have clearly seen bad issues. If they indicate they have changed the production process or components and now there is a good run, that would mean something, but I havent heard anything on it. There are also other issues with it that make it an odd camera, so I am not going to bother even if they come out and say that problem is totally fixed.
@@scstudios8 yes i find nobody learning how to modify lens position. Even if it's a very hard hack modification. I see some videos ultrasharp even at long distance. You thing there is quality issue and some model works great ans other bad? We can imagine defocusing cold environment and sharp after heating 30seconds :D it's very stupid to stop production when it's only a focus lens problem :/ It can kill the game with this amazing hardware.

Cool review, thanks! Could you help me - is it possible to make time-lapses with it? 1 frame per 2 seconds or so. Will it save it as a video file or as a sequence of jpegs? And is it possible to manage it remotely somehow?
Hi! Can the USB-C port also be used to connect external mics? I'm specifically thinking about the Saramonic Blink 500 B6 whose receiver would fit great into the stitching line...
Thank you very very much for this wonderful update and summarise. Great 👍 Effort. By the way, it will be very interesting to put it side by side against the ONE X2. Photos and Videos. I am really curious on the video actually. And it workflow too. Thank you Yuqing. Looking forward to that. Have a Great Week Ahead.
after watching all your videos i decided to buy qoocam 8k. i have 2 issues that i have no way of getting help from support. when exporting to android app sound cuts out after 90 seconds. on s21 ultra.. usb c connection does not work for s21 either. on my old iPhone sound is perfecrly fine. could you please provide some support to your fan? also i cant understand how to use routing mode. it doesn't make sense. thanks for your hard work
Hi Yuqing... I wanted to buy this camera but was afraid. It is already one year old and don't know if Kandao is launching a new camera. Thanks for making great videos
Thank you for all the QooKam info, much appreciated. I downloaded Studio 2 and it won't load properly... my PC system meets all the requirements. What would you suggest? Thank you
Hi, I've found an issue with the equirectangular outputs stitched in-camera and I wonder if anyone has encountered it too. The Output JPGs stitched in camera they're all slightly different, like if they've been processed with different pitch, roll and yaw parameters. Dual fisheye originals look ok when processed with Qoocam Studio. Has anyone encountered the same problem?
Hey man, love the videos you make! I have some questions that I tried to find around the web and even ask KanDao and I got no reply. 1 - What's the HDMI mode for on the enterprise? 2 - Is the dual USB-C cable is compatible with the enterprise? 3 - I can't seem to make the nadir patch work in the app (android v. 3.71). I click on default or custom and nothing happens. Any idea why? Maybe a bug on this version?
Hello, I have recently bought the Qoocam 8k. My intention is to make virtual tours with 3D Vista. I can't get the image quality to be entirely satisfactory. I wanted to ask you if you have any virtual tours made with the Qoocam 8k, so I can see if there is a difference or not. Thanks a lot! A greeting!
By the way... I just want be listen from kandao qoocam 8k to get at least 5 or 10 seconds shooter speed instead only one second we got today. They said to me it is "impossible" but I simply can not believe that. Please @kandaoo just give us at least 5 seconds shutter speed to get better night shots... Please!!!!!

yes it's a front focus problem of lens. You can test picture when camera is hot and cold to find the best sharpen picture.
I want to buy this, but I am worried about the reports of focus issues with the camera. What is your take about this issue?
my unit is fine
You are talking about lot of things but omitted ONE thing. Minimum distance? Macro? 1,2,5? cm?
What memory card must you use to record 8K?
Micro SD card with Writing Speed Performace better that 60MB/s
有其他测试者说这款相机很垃圾,软件很多bug,说明书不清楚。怎么回事?
thank you for your comment!
👍, but it looks like a commercial..
