    Popular culture has trained people to associate evil with darkness. However, evil rarely presents itself as something hideous, twisted, and dark, and darkness is actually an aspect of divine nature. This conceptualization throws people off track, and leaves them vulnerable to the ensnarements of the negative force. In this episode, I will discuss how this misunderstanding likely came to pass, and how to keep yourself safe through more accurate discernment.

    Such wisdom here. We need to train our eyes not to see the good in people, but rather to see the truth. If we blind ourselves to the evil, we open the door for it to flourish.

    You just happened to end up in my TH-cam feed. I liked my first sample of your work (women approach their relationships with men like men approach jobs). I had a look at your selection of videos and this one really jumped out at me. I have been studying Animism and ancient philosophies of man. You have done a great job here explaining how the spirits of the earth are just as important as the spirits of the sky. You've done it in your own way of course but I find it incredibly rare to find anyone outside of perhaps contemporary Shamans who understand the world of spirits. I have subscribed based on this video.
    For my part, I will just add that the darkness and the Spirits of the Earth have been Demonized, literally. The Hebrew, Muslim, Christian religions have all mislead people in this regards. They have damaged our natural, common, universal understanding of the world of spirits.
    Thanks again for your good work!

We all can see that serial killers, rapists etc. are evil and they undoubtedly are, but how many people have not done the most horrible of deeds in the belief that they were perfectly justified, or even doing good?

    Great points/observations. Thank you. The "banality of evil" ... an entire bookcase could be written about evil, and has been. Dostoevsky wrote "humans can get used to anything" and Solzhenitsyn “If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?
    During the life of any heart this line keeps changing place; sometimes it is squeezed one way by exuberant evil and sometimes it shifts to allow enough space for good to flourish. One and the same human being is, at various ages, under various circumstances, a totally different human being. At times he is close to being a devil, at times to sainthood. But his name doesn't change, and to that name we ascribe the whole lot, good and evil.
    And the most sobering thought of all, scratch the very thin veneer of civilization and you quickly find savage evil. "Evil is us"

This affirms what you are saying - it is not the darkness itself that is evil, but the idea conceptually is that evil is 'hidden' - it hides its true face and thus is not easily seen for what it is.

      It might still stand though as a good "evil model".
      Tom Riddle, someone having many good attributes (physically good looking, an excellent mage & student, etc.) had deep potential but also and a large lust for power. In this series he was tempted to the latter. This we see manifested physically later with his appearance change into that overblown grotesque form (noseless voldermort), as well as literally "seeing" for what he truly is now. At that point he simply does not care to hide it or is too delusional to see what others see him as.
      It mirrors quite a few instances on how evil is portrayed I think, in that people hide their malevolence until a certain point point where it's no longer apt.

    Lucifer was another name for Venus, more than likely the early Church adopted the name for Satan in order to get people to stop worshipping the Roman goddess. Satan works for God in the Old Testament. When Balam is confronted by the angel to keep him from cursing the Israelites, that is Satan. Just a word that means accuser or adversary. This word doesn’t become personified until the Judahites encounter with the Zororasterians. Many religions believe good and evil is in the heart of most humanity. You choose to do things that benefit you and harm others, then that is typically seen as evil. Good and evil are perceptions of human consciousness. Wild animals kill each other for food and for dominance. They don’t realize that they are doing harm to one another. They just need protein or are making sure their offspring are safe or that they will be able to reproduce. Human beings can think about things, so they realize their actions are harmful unless they suffer from mental illness or choose not to engage in perspective taking, thought assessment and personal evaluation. Some people choose to keep evil out of their minds, such as everyone of us who uses modern technology while the poorest people in the world dig in mines with their bare hands to get elements that make our phones work. Women work in these mines with children strapped to their backs. Both mother and child inhale toxins from the process and all for less than one dollar a day. They can’t afford enough calories and nutrients to reach complete health by modern western standards. Evil is in all of us. It’s easy to not think about the poorest people in the world, because I can say I have no control over the poorest people in the world. I could vote for leaders who advocate for all people in the world having the rights to all resources, but that may mean a loss of status for me. Then how would I get the feeling of superiority I get from the social acceptance I get because of my ownership of resources?!

    Great topic, Dr Taraban!
    Yes, evil tends to wear a bright and attractive costume like the Pied Piper but it leads your astray to your death. The Bible actually says that Satan's false ministers infiltrate the church and it should be expected because even he is transformed into an angel of light. People choose shortcuts and expediency over sacrifice and righteousness and it causes devastation for them and many others.
    I don't think it's darkness which represents evil since God made it, but more what darkness is used for. People are clandestine and secretive over their evil deeds so darkness is the metaphor for it but the unborn child is created in the dark womb and the serpent tempted Eve in broad daylight.

    I thought you were going to talk about “shadow work”. “Evil” is just a denial of your shadow ( or your real personality independent of socialization). Hannah Arendt approaches this from a philosophical angle and Jung and Nietzsche as well. Refusal to acknowledge and confront your primal instinctual impulses and needs, means you have much less ability to control them. They control you basically. You become out of control and on autopilot and the behest of some dark pool of desire pain and fear. The reason why people see the narcissist as demonic or evil. Narcissists have disowned their entire personality since childhood - not just parts - and created what they consider a loveable mask. Their entire original personality has become their shadow. They are completely controlled by their fears of acknowledging their shadow. Calling things “evil” I think reeks of ancient dogma. We know now that while certain acts can looks very evil, the people committing them are just very weak people who have no spine and no authenticity because of the overwhelming fear that controls them.

      Disagree. The key point is if you have this feeling part of empathy, or little bit, or only cognitive empathy. The last one has a psychopath too, who can be very charming and do a lot of things right, because he know, what the others feel. But he has no feeling component, and you can this measure in functional MRI very well. In contrast many people can be very empathic, but they often suffer from it, because it drain their brain capacity. As a "normal" I had an empathic phase, when I saw some pictures of Mai Lai. I was overwhelmed by emotions for a week, I felt for them and was distracted often. It was a bad experience. This is how many sensitive, very empathic people feel all the time.
      I know, under external stress I can develop quite narcissistic traits. Nevertheless there is a strong emotional gap between me and a psychopath and a narcissist.
      Of course most psychopath are not evil today, but in more stressful times the are.

      @@GermanTaffer There’s actually new research out on empathy and psychopathy. Paul Bloom wrote “against empathy” recently based off someone else’s original research (forget who). He observed that empathy is actually amoral and in fact driven by tribalistic impulses. Psychopathy likewise doesn’t have quite the moral implications we used to think it did. Most psychopaths are highly driven focused and creative people. Emotional people can be a lot more dangerous than unemotional people. Hitler for instance was very emotional and his charisma and ability to connect with others on an emotional level was very destructive. Psychopaths on the other hand are less inclined to be persuaded by group pressure - a very dangerous and possibly the most destructive force known to man.

    • @patrickmcmanus1360
      @patrickmcmanus1360 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GermanTaffer It turns out that we just moralized the ability to socialization connect with others. However, some of the most dangerous people actually don’t do the damage themselves but get others to do it for them. Most of the murderous dictators in history for instance. Psychopaths don’t give in to peer pressure as easily. That is alone a very valuable trait. Not only are psychopaths not as dangerous as psychology previously thought but without them we would not have the craziness and determination necessary to move society forward. They are on average a force for good not evil. The only reason we have demonized them is because it’s scary for the average person and not a relatable personality type. It is definitely not as dangerous as emotional personality type. Emotional people when they aren’t harnessing other people’s destructive energy as I described, are often unstable enough that they lose control of themselves.

      @@GermanTaffer All I was originally talking about was “narcissism” not “empathy”. Those are discussed together online, but actually as I understand narcs, empathy isn’t really the issue. It’s just a side issue and not the root cause of narcissism. Narcs basically are wounded children who understood their personality to be unloveable and distasteful to the adults around them. They create a mask personality - that they have no personal emotional connection to. They create this mask and in the process begin to hate themselves. Because they can’t love or appreciate or connect to this new fake person they’ve now become - they get others to love him/ her instead. Their whole life is a series of manipulations to get this fake person love in the hopes of finding some peace. They’re ruthless and umempathetic in this mission or pursuit. It’s out of desperation. It’s like a drowning man pulling everyone else down with him.

I just mean “society” sees narcs as evil and the reason behind why narcs act as they do isn’t actually evil at all. It’s woundedness operating in ignorance of that wound. What people think of as “evil” usually isn’t “mal - intent” (bad intentions). It’s more accurate and productive to call it what it is, which is a kind of ignorance fear and disconnect from our true personality. “Evil” implies an underlying intention of causing harm and destruction. That is what it manifests as on some level, but the underlying intent is definitely no bad intentions and desire to cause harm ....in most cases at least .

    I think this can be easily understood by looking at the German version of the word eveil, "übel". Evil has a connotation of intent, it's more closely aligned to malign. Whereas the German übel just means bad. So evil doesn't need to be malign. As you said, most evil is done by pursuing something that seems good.

  • @Sorg22
    @Sorg22 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is no "force"of something we should regard as "evil".
    The fact that you mention Lucifer destroys your credibility, because speaking from ignorance is a really bad idea, doctor. You should speak from knowledge instead. Should learn of the topic, that character that you named, and we should talk about etymology.
    You are presuming that he resigns over that "force" but instead, you should understand that evil is only that which we do not want. It's not a force, no more than Valdemar is.

  • @Sorg22
    @Sorg22 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just want to take it back, Dr. Orion, as the value of all your other videos has been substantial for me. Your stilted subjective idea of the idea of "evil" is not with standing here, but otherwise I have found your shows to be substantially above par from, the others in your genre. You have an intellect that's cast iron or I don't know if that's the perfect analogy but it's maybe crystalline iron. There's some thing foundational about how you see in a balanced way.
    I guess you and I would have a really good conversation about this idea of evil sinse I respect the shit out of your way of thinking. So many people have this sugarcoating/virtue signaling way of presenting themselves, which is false, false, false, false false. It's because they don't have a grasp of objectivity. so this tells me that my view of your "evil" topic shows me that I have a bit of bias that I have to work through. If I respect your thought, so much, well, anyway, I just think that evil is not a force, and it's not an entity, and you'd have to have a folklore level of sophistication in terms of, a superstitious, , religious belief that evil is a "force".
    When I say above par, I think that you bring a confidence to your ideas, and you don't make it so people can't disagree. This is good. Super honorable. Maybe it's the confidence in conjunction with the humility that makes you quote above par" for me in this statement.
    I think other people can really stick to the text a bit too much for my taste, and that's why I completely would prefer Carl Jung, as opposed to Freud, but maybe that's because the more I understand about occult, which means secret or shielded, the more I understand where your religion and the others came from. That's what Carl Jung understood. I doubt he talked about evil as an entity.

    A thorough investigation of the history of the 20th century should teach people that evil is not dark at all. It really does resemble goodness to those it ensnares. To a drug addicted person, the pleasure of getting high is good; it is only after they are hooked that they realize the destructiveness of the path become a slave to.

    • @ArmyWolves
      @ArmyWolves ปีที่แล้ว

      You have reminded me of the progression of the movie REQUIM OF A DREAM where the first part of the movie shows the euphoria and exhiliration of their drug use then followed by their slow destruction of their relationships, loss of employment and theid final heartbreaking act where they did all sorts of things to get money to buy drugs until consequences caught up with each of them.
      Just like the initial euphoria of drug use, sometimes evil may be disguised and may even let you believe that the evildoers are virtuous whilst the victims/oppressed are the ones who are evil who need to be eliminated.

That would be the logical answer, but, of course, that can't be the answer, because God is also nothing but goodness. Now, in Zoroastrianism, of course, they have rivaling deities, but Christianity is a monotheistic teaching... So it seems that people just wanted to have both the perks of "there's only one God and it's our God" and the "screw these other evil gods with a spoon!" So they patched it up with "the ways of God are mysterious". No kidding!😂 And now adult men who diligently bend their minds into contours of this nonsense have the audacity to call out their brothers in Christ for not being straight minded enough 😂

    Firstly….your choice of first name, Orion, is already VERY interesting.
    Your analogy about polarity, as in light and dark, is funny.
    Maybe, just come out and say it: we are “herd animals” who are highly social and in need of interaction. Those in service to the community (service-to-others) are obviously good - and those who only seek to act in a self-serving manner, in the detriment of society, (service-to-self) are evil. It is often the Hidden Hand engaged in a front of “philanthropy” that stabs the innocent in the back.
    Is that evil? As a herd animal I would have to say YES…but nature, bloody in tooth and claw, would (if it could) say NO.
    The Hidden Hand, in the same token, has to hope that the herd doesn’t become aware of their backhanded stabbing, otherwise, nature will come for them, and rightly so!

Given that karma is inescapable but often plays out over multiple lifetimes, if we could see the long-term effects of our "evil" actions and that their consequences would all come back to us, we would never commit them. Everyone in the world wants happiness and doesn't want suffering.

    said this for years. Evil dosent crawl out of the ground with red eyes, bat wings and hooves saying "let's kill folks". It walks right up wearing white with a smile and a handshake. Nowhere in the bible does it say lucifer was malformed and radiating darkness. If the paths to hell are paved with good intentions then evil most easily recognized, in the absence of discernment, in the rear view mirror.
