When Evelyn crossed the tape at the 1988 Olympics she did not just beat the favorite European women who were ahead of her but she also crushed the use of steroids by the European Athletes which I believe is still in use today only in different forms to avoid recognition.
Evelyn pulled her quad at the Pepsi Meet in April of 1980, and was out for the rest of the season. Her not being in Moscow, had nothing to due the with boycott. Alice Brown won the Olympic trials, in the 100 meters, with Brenda Morehead 2nd & Chandra Cheeseborough 3rd. Chandra won the 200 meters at the trails.
Hard to trust times anymore. Her 10.76 was Clean!!!! Not sure anymore...Would have been nice to see her more in the 200 . One of the few who beat Koch..
This bio is inaccurate, when they say it was the US boycott that kept Evelyn from competing at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. She injured her quad muscle very badly in May at the Pepsi Invitation meet, and was out for the rest of the season.
Also, Evelyn stated herself that the injury at the Pepsi meet was "because she just didn't care anymore" after President Carter pulled the US from the Moscow games just weeks earlier.
I love her. Great athlete, but evidently jealous of the greatest runner, Flo Jo, when she showed poor team spirit by speaking disparaging remarks about Flo in public.
She wasn’t the only one. And they were telling the truth. Florence had one great year. She was mediocre before that year. And had to retire to avoid failing tests after that year.
