You must be so proud of yourself that you've managed to keep up that habit!! Journalling really is one of the best ways to feel calmer and reduce your stress! :)
Wow, that is incredible! Surely this must be the most consecutive days anyone has journaled for! What's your secret that allows you to stay consistent?
@@ollystaniland I started in November 2019 with the goal of journaling until the end of the year with the hope of continuing into the new year which I did. Then when the whole Covid thing happened I kept at it and before I knew it I had been journaling for 6+ months so I just kept on going. About to hit 5 years this November 😁 kinda wild reading back with all the stuff just as the pandemic was kicking off and then lockdowns, travel restrictions, the US election, the January 6th stuff, Brexit finally coming into effect and the fallout from that, the Ukraine war, etc. crazy stuff! Looking back I picked an amazing time to start journaling as I have like 4 months of ”normal” life at the end of 2019 and start of 2020 before the world changed in ways I had never seen before first hand.
That is crazy that you managed to start journaling at such a critical moment in time, when the world began to radically shift, you must have had SOOOO much to write about! Also, it sounds like it must be super interesting to look back at that time and remember how you were feeling about 2020 in the moment. Then, do you come back to more recent entries and compare the two? It sounds like you're really interested in journaling, so you might like to check out my email list. I go over even more ways of how you can journal to feel less stressed with some secret but effective hacks.
Your friend may have ADHD… I have it. Thus, my life is so random, rarely planned, kinda all over the place, fun - never boring… that’s why I am here. I’m trying to kinda streamline it so I can accomplish the things I’ve been putting off. Great video though! ✨

This seems very similar to the “one line a day” journals except it looks like you’re seeing all lines for that month vs seeing the lines for that day year over year
You're right! It is a bit similar to the one line a day method but I feel that dopamine days has been working for me because I can gauge how my month is going and keep reflecting on my life :)

That's one of the biggest reasons I love TH-cam as you can build a community of like-minded people. Is there anything you'd like me to cover specifically in a future video? Hope you're having an AMAZING day :)
Awh thank you so much, I actually got it from the WH Smiths (newsagents) in Heathrow airport right before I left to go on my solo trip to Thailand! One of the BEST purchases of my life! What journal are you using at the moment?
@@ollystaniland I use a a6 one I got at flying tiger, it does the job and is small enough to bring everywhere. But always looking for something pretty! I need to check that out if I visit the UK anytime soon!
I am so pleased that you found this hack helpful, I love sharing what is helping me and it's amazing that the Dopamine Days technique has resonated with you. Hope to see you in the comments again on a future journalling video :)
Great question! Essentially, it's called 'dopamine days' because of two reasons: 1) It only takes a couple of minutes to write down your highlight from the day and this writing can give you a boost of dopamine. 2) Secondly, you are looking for those moments in your life that make you happy, often times these are moments when you get that hit of dopamine. The journaling method is about finding happiness and being grateful for all the events in your life! Hope that helps :)
That's an excellent point you make about those days when we are struggling to find highlights. My question for you is: would you class playing video games as a highlight of your day?
I think you might be really angry. I know something about the world you're in, it's very isolating. You don't have rich people problems, you have real trouble -- so there's an enormous Why Me? Often people get in trouble with Righteous Anger. It's so obvious that it isn't fair. But even your legitimate anger will destroy you. Plus there's grief. Grief makes people physically tired, carrying it. Of course you are playing video games, that's the most obvious thing that would happen -- not a character flaw, not personal. But it's also not nourishing. See if you can upgrade even part of your escape time to youtube videos -- go to Yugoslavia for the afternoon, learn to cut ice statues with a chainsaw. Whatever. I like books.
Brenda, I have had a similar experience with gaming as a way to decompress, but the lack of movement combined with staring at a screen creates other issues. It sounds to me like you may benefit from exploring ideas that will help you interrupt your mental state and identify your core values. Have you watched “I Am Not Your Guru?” I found it to be a great starting point, and the red shoes clip shows an example of interrupting your mental state. As for values, this is what I’m currently exploring - books by Hyrum Smith and Stephen Covey could be a good starting point.
How about doing something small to make a difference? Write a lovely message to a loved one and make them smile? Read an interesting book? Buy a nice smelling soap? These are small things and probably nothing compared to your pain. But you can be proud and be happy about every little thing :)

Why is it called dopamine days?
I know, I don’t get it
I think because you are tracking what happened in a day that gave you a dopamine boost (otherwise it wouldn't likely be categorized as a highlight)
Great question!
Essentially, it's called 'dopamine days' because of two reasons:
1) It only takes a couple of minutes to write down your highlight from the day and this writing can give you a boost of dopamine.
