This is the most AUTHENTIC video about bullet journaling on the internet!! Thank you! It’s messy, flawed, realistic, and an actual work in progress. Huge point about the flexibility - if you’re starting out, you won’t know exactly how it will serve your needs as best as possible so you’ll need to try out different things - and that’s OKAY! Also, kudos for the humour, I’m actually watching the rest of your videos now because of it. Keep it up 🚀
HOLY CRAP. Excellent way to say, "the aesthetic bujo crew is awesome, but don't let them get you down." Because. Phew. When I was first starting. That was rough.
I'm not exactly a beginner, but this was still so helpful. The biggest take-away was to let it grow into a shape based on your needs, not some spread you think you have to include . Great video! PS: And you made me finally pick up that copy of atomic habits that's been gathering dust for 6 months! :D
This video has way too few views! You're amazing, and your sense of humour was exactly what I needed for my anxious perfectionist brain to pipe the f down!
That coffee pour at the end gave me life! I appreciate how you emphasize changing your spreads as your needs dictate instead of diving head first--it was one of my biggest mistakes as a newbie (but also an opportunity for growth)
I love your editing style it is really cute. I have ADHD so I love making up new spreads over time to meet my needs. That is what makes bullet journal so appealing to me over a regular planner. I subscribed!
Thank you, this is super helpful. I can’t tell you how often I’ve felt frustrated watching a bujo setup that starts with pages and pages of collections .
This is *EXACTLY* what I've been looking for! I love how you've opened up your bullet journal to show it's evolution. Thanks for your clear and humorous explanations and explorations. I only wish I'd found your video many moons ago, but I'm happy to have found it now! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I honestly love this revival of bullet journalling with a renewed focus on the actual purpose: to make life easier to manage! I had 2 false starts with BuJos and both times I gave up not even 2 months in because it didn't make things easier for me, My BuJo now? I've been using it for over a year and a half and it's become integral to keeping my life sorted - especially as a person with raging ADHD. My spreads are simple - a monthly spread that has an overview of the month and a sidebar of habits I need to be reminded of (I have ADHD so the habits are literally things like 'brush your teeth', 'brush your teeth at night too girlie') and then weekly spreads that are super simple in scope but can be dressed up with stickers and colors when I'm feeling motivated and kept to just plain black and white lines when I'm not. It's made me realize why people are such diehard fans of it and why so many people, including me, did not stick with it - if I didn't pare it down to the things that work for me I'd have so many unused spreads and I'd be crying over messing up. Now I now what I need and everything else is just the cherry on top.
This is THE video I've needed. I've been bullet journaling on and off since 2019, never sticking for more than a few weeks. fancy spreads were hard to keep up, super simple ones like yours worked better. I'm trying to get a jump back on it because I feel overwhelmed with multiple projects that I want to have goals for and I liked your question of "what is my need for this journal?"
Good tips and I enjoy your sense of humor! Definitely the OG Ryder Carroll BuJo method-ultra simple-is the way to go as a beginner, then see what you actually need and like once the habit is established. Watercolor painting and pretty calendars are great, but only if they light you up with inspiration. Thanks for your fun content ❤
I'm New to Bullet Journaling.... I decided to do june bullet Journal... First I see Lots of videos so I decided to go with beautiful doodles, colourings and so many trackers... but now i decided to do a simple, minimalist planner... Thank you so much❤ you're the life saver💕
As one who loves the idea of journaling + OCD how it supposed to look and then be in a paralysis, this video helped me get started and stick with it. Thank you.
Wow I can tell how much work went into this video and it was A LOT. So impressed by the humor, relatability, and usefulness all in one. Fantastic job and thank you 🎉
This is why I like to use a six-ring A5 binder with dotted paper filling. If you completely eff up you can rip it out and restart. Use a mechanical pencil for templates, and make a stencil for the common stuff.
I have been on and off bullet journaling in my early twenties and now I'm almost thirty... as I got older I realized I didn't want aesthetic, elaborate spreads (even though they look wonderful), but the artist effort was a lot for my not-so-artistic self and I just wanted to journal consistently. When you mentioned how you should change the layout based on your needs, that was so helpful to hear out loud! This video made me feel so much better about having a messy bullet journal! Thank you so much for this!!!
this video is so good. I've recently picked up "daily" journaling again and was tempted to get back into bujo but it's just so intimidating. i love this methodology of not predicting your needs based on other people's books and im definitely going to trying this. also the habit forming is going to be so helpful in the rest of my life lol
This is genuinely the best video I watched about journaling so far, very helful, so mind calming and the simplicity in steps and applications is like a whisper in my ears saying take it easy. I wanted to compine both Journaling and writing diary but it felt overwhelming but I now think it's possible Thank you so much
I've always seen beautifully designed bullet journals on social media. And I have wanted to have a bullet journal like them. But it's quite difficult for beginners, so I always put off making a bullet journal. Thanks to this video, I realized that having a bullet journal isn't difficult, it really motivated me. Starting from July, I will also prepare a bullet journal🩷
is this video even real? I can't believe i literally waited for YEARS watching videos about those fancy bujo spreads and handwritings etc i even bought all those professional pens like the tombow dual brushes and sakura micro's. but i havent used it A DAY because i was waiting for the ✨inspiration 😘✨ ripping out pages throwing away whole journals just bc it didnt look ✨aesthetic ✨. I am dumbfounded rn i cant thank you enough for this video i didnt know i needed to hear those things thank you so so much
Thank you!!! I felt overwhelmed by all the "simple set up" videos with all the pretty writing and this was soooo helpful!! Thank you for taking the fear out of it!! ❤❤
THANK YOU for this! I'm not really a beginner, but not advanced either. My problem is that I can't seem to keep up with the journaling and it just fades away after a while. I realized it was because I made it too complicated! Your video was very inspiring because you did show me a REAL bujo and not just a piece of art. You have inspired me to try once again because when I'm not over-complicate it, I really like this method... Thank you
Thank you! I have been starting and stopping my bullet journal journey because of am dissatisfied with my own lack of skills in drawing or coming up with ideas. I truly love this simple and very doable method and plan to implement it into my own process.
This is the best bujo video for beginners I've ever watched. I've kept a planner for 20 years and my systems are still evolving. I moved my monthly calendar and paper todo list to apps a few years back when the tech came out for instance. Identifying the need is a great place to start and the advice to not expect perfection is the only way you'll be consistent.
Great Video. It is all trial & error, all about learning as you develop. and yes! Biggest problem is searching for bujo on line and you get these overcrafted works of art, that do not work fo you & make you feel overwhelmed
this feels like finding out abt a youtuber before they become STUPID big 🤩💫 the authenticity, the humor, the seamless editing and reassuring nudges to reframe your mindset about bullet journaling and goal setting, etc.. first time viewer and new fan! i appreciate your work :)
Oh my God I'm just halfway through the video but I am totally mind blown! I am about to start using a bullet journal and though I wasn't expecting a beautiful one, I was getting a little overwhelmed when thinking about set ups. And now I'll just use it! And see what I need from there. I'm so excited!! Thanks thanks thanks!
this is the best summary of all the beginner mistakes on bullet journaling and a few good ways to prevent or deal with them ... and all this within 7 minutes and with a touch of humour. nice job.
Simie, I cannot understand how - when you have put together such good quality content - you have so few subscribers. Your audio is excellent (such a relief, I feel like I should steer other people your way as an example of how it should be done), nice clear video, excellent points and with a good sense of humour and wit. Thank you! This is going to really help me. I think I was trying to do too much all at once.
This video has been one of the most useful videos about BUJO for me, thanks so much for your effort 💛 and I really appreciate the reminder about not being so serious, that is sth that I should remember more often 👽
Thank you so much! I impulse-bought a dot journal from my feed and dove into ideas on the internet. I want to give up even before I receive it! WOW. My handwriting is raggedy and I thought I would have to take an art class. WHEW. You saved me from unnecessary anxiety.
I came to make notes for an article I'm writing but left subscribed with all notifications on. This video was easy to watch from start to finish and had me hooked. Plus, your videography skills make me want to figure out how I can start making videos too!
Great Video! This is the video I wished I had watched first when I got in to Bullet Journaling in 2016, and it's the style and process Matt D'Avella should have followed rather than the stressful mess he made. Congrats on finishing your first bullet journal and acing the technique that works for you. Looking forward to more videos from you. :)
Loved this video so much lol I bought a Bujo about 2 years ago. Bought all the supplies and never started. Wasn’t going to until I got the idea to give it a go again! I’ve watched countless of how to videos, searched Reddit forums, watched Ryders original How to vid (which I actually DONT prefer) my artistic self originally became interested in Bujo due to the creative aspect of it all. But as a recovering perfectionist I was timid to start cause I know I’d be pissed if It doesn’t look like Amanda Rach Lee’s or all the other gorgeous ones out there. This is the ONLY video that motivated me to not to worry too much about it looking like I bought it off etsy or whatever professional looking journals be at
Gosh! Where were you when I started bullet journaling 4 years ago?? Since my middle name is , “all the things” you can guess what I did. Yep. Boujie all the way, down to the white sunglasses and fake mustache!! This year I got myself a Hobonichi Weeks and I am SLOWLY implementing ideas from the bujo into my hobo. You are doing good things. Keep it up!!
Lovely video, i just started today on the empty journal i had laying around and just wrote some thought and ideas down. I got super overwhelmed what some people do, this is nice.
Yes, finally a REALLY SIMPLE and rational way! You're amazing, your words are really validate my struggles. I used to do a bujos in past and want to try again but want it simple and just work for me.
Love this! Great job, thanks for the honesty and transparency. I've been bullet journaling for a few years and this was a good reminder since I'm in a rut right now. Enjoyed the object examples using Clear's _Atomic Habits_ as well. Thanks for the reminder that it can be fun/not so serious
This was a really nice and authentic video how to get started. That is exactly what I am trying to do. Though I have been sort of doing bullet journaling in my old calendar book which was almost not used. Which I come to the point that I don’t think I am going to make a calendar to my bullet journal, I have a quite complicated and difficult relationship with the calendars😅, so I think will do bullet journaling to-do-lits and my thoughts. And we will see, Thanks for your video, I feel now more free to try and experiment things what suits for my bullet journal. 🙏
Thank you so much! I once tried to do a bullet journal but ended up with anxiety to make a mess, so I stop journaling. This really encourage me to try one more time 🥹. Besides, your voice is SOOO relaxing. Would be nice if you do a podcast.
I really like your dry humor approach and editing style!! Let’s all remember that there are no rules to journaling. Lists, quotes, drawings, it all works🙌🏼🔥I’ll be making a video about my simple setup
Bullet Journaling was recommended to me as a way to help manage my time. However I quickly felt lost because everything seemed complicated. So I really like how you showed that even when you didnt love an aspect you stuck with it. Then made adjustments as you went & learned. All that to say thank you!
Subscribed for the content, staying for your excellent selection of stickers. I'm going to play this video over and over until I get it through my head to keep things SIMPLE.
An absolute banger of a video, you're waaay to underrated! I've tried "bullet journaling" before (I put it in quotes because if I'm being honest It was more of a complicated performative art piece than a personal space for keeping track of my life, thoughts, and ideas), but it never worked out because of how "aesthetic" I kept trying to make things, I'm going to keep coming back to this video anytime I catch myself getting too perfectionist-y or complicated with my journal.
I'm so so happy I came across your channel, your humor sprinkled throughout the video is awesome, and your experience is super relatable. It's really helping me get back into journaling based on need and not aesthetic :) I ot annoyed with how I couldn't just ctrl+Z in my simple moleskine notebooks so I got a ring binder with loose pages - I liked the idea of being able to switch stuff up. Unfortunately though, I think only about 20% of the entire paper pack I bought made it to the journal, all because I was determined to make it beautiful and ignoring why I started to begin with. Thank you for the great video and advice
The most beautiful grounded approach! Loved this because I just watched an extreme bullet video then one roasting that one talking about minimalism and so much structure but this one’s real asf and the most personal acting on your needs and no set create system other than the system you find you need
I came back to this video cause for the first time ever i've been consistent with bullet journaling. I watched this earlier this year and I've done something in my bujo every month (except for 1 - but It was my holidays, so didn't have much going on). You helped me to start simple and make it even simpler later cause I ended up learning what worked for myself. So THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this. You helped me organize my time better to have more free time and now I've noticed it really helped me manage my anxiety too. Thank u ❣
You nailed it. I have started with too many things (trackers, lists...NOT fancy designs). I haven't stuck with it. I'm starting December over today with the month layout, dailies and some lists. THANK YOU for the comedy (omg, you spinning your Bullet Journal 🤣) and the reminder to simplify! Can't wait to see more of your Bullet Journal videos!
I’ve been struggling lately with planning out my stuff on paper and I really wanted a secure schedule but I hated bullet journal every time I tried because I felt it wasn’t pretty or aesthetically pleasing so seeing this makes me so happy because of how great your advice is because now I’m ready to start and not have any pressure on making it perfect thank you
This was quite refreshing and comforting, in amongst the mass of flashy influencers who often don't really feel like real people. Humorous, relatable and no air of cult-ishness. Thanks!
Wow! I have to tell you, I have gone down SO many rabbit holes just shaking my head at the people who just have to have six happy planners that they then "Franken" plan? Then add two or three journals to the stack? WTH? How do they get anything done? Bullet journalers were only marginally better as they probably only were able to get six months in a book much less your two years because of all the trackers like you said that were never used or tons of stickers on EVERY page!!! Even people calling themselves minimalist were still over doing it as far as I was concerned. I have a future log at the beginning of the book (and I do use it), each month gets a vertical calendar, then a to do list and I start my daily log on the next page. It goes for however far I need it to go. Don't do any ahead just in case I start a project that needs extra notes. That's it! Love your video, sense of humor is awesome, thank you.
This is my second year in BuJo, and your video is a fresh reminder about not being stressed about how to organize my BuJo, making it fancy, etc. In fact, I use my bujo for organizational purpose; my covers can be colorful, but the rest is quite minimal. I added some thing and take away others (for example, the trackers. They didn't work for me). In the pages I add stickers and washitapes to give it some life.
This video made me restart the bullet journal that has been lying around dead for *months* (if not over a year 🤐). I might have gotten way too excited with all the insanely pretty setups that are out there and got so overwhelmed that i just full on stopped x) Thanks to you i finally gave pen and paper another go - and am super happy with it currently! I basically started again with a monthly calendar [in which i put emotes to keep track of energy levels and mood and add the most important happening of a day]; a big (somewhat intimidating) Weekly To-Do-List and a daily thingie to migrate todos from the weekly over and keep track of incoming todos, most important happenings and learnings and brain anxiety dumps. Reading this it still sounds like a lot, but it's basically what i've been doing digitally the past months. Having all this back to paper with a single pen to keep it as simple as possible makes me happy every time i sit down and open my notebook. Thank you so much for lighting that spark-ly joy back up! 😍❤
OMG! This video spoke to me on SO MANY LEVELS! I've been so stuck in my planning space that I'm doing things I'd never do because I'm seeing other people do them. And this video is such an amazing reminder that BuJo is truly a place where I can make work for me no matter what is going on in my life. I can't tell you how many times I cracked up laughing because I've thought so much about what is shared here. Especially at the very beginning when looking up "simple" and "minimalist" spreads. Girl, I haven't found a single spread during that search that is simple or minimal. Thank you for this video and now I actually can't wait to start bullet journaling again in May.
I'm 2 years late to this, but DANG you've helped me to simplify exactly what I need from my journal, and how to use it. Need first, then a rough system, then GIVE IT TIME to optimise :) Thank u :D
Good video, message keep it simple. Before the personal devices came along we used At-A-Glance Planners (still available today). We all carried them from meeting to meeting. All the weeks months and journal lines already drawn for you. There were even pages dedicated to annual planning and even training on how to. Then the personal device came along and we all were told that we should stop using paper. Now everyone on TH-cam thinks they have found the cure for stupidity and saying we need to back to paper and be an artist when you do it. I dont know about you, but life is to short to spend all my time doodling in a journal.
This is amazing, thank you! I’m back to trying the bullet journaling again after stopping out of frustration the first time. Keeping it simple is my goal. It doesn’t have to be glamorized, it just has to be functional for me. Thank you!!
How have you got less than 1k subscribers? Not only did I find this really useful, I found this rather entertaining! Very good video and you've sparked exactly what I was looking for. Easy, simple and not over complicated setup and inspiration. Thank you :D
1:04 my exact feeling watching his video. The habit tracker alone send me nuts, and I also guilty of doing it XD This tracker should come with an alert like "hey, you could also do this inside your monthly log, in 30 segs, look"
"I waited until I had a need and optimised it" Yeah, that's absolutely how it was INTENDED to work. It's not meant to be pre-planned, it was designed for people with adhd to maintain some semblance of control
I think one thing that made me happier with my bujo was keeping it simple, using stickers I loved, and allowing myself to add to it only as needed (open it regularly, but not feel pressured to add to it if I have nothing to add). And you've mentioned all of these here. Good to know I'm onto something lol.
Great video Simie! I think you managed to address all of the "issues" I've had with bullet journaling, note taking, etc. One of my challenges is finding "new" journals, notebooks, etc. I have several Moleskines and have also adopted high quality notecards that I can easily carry and move. Keep up the great work!
Your video editing, your silliness in the clips and the way you show your views on productivity and BuJoing are very addictive! I can't stop watching your videos 😍 (Plus, I really like your handwriting!) I've been BuJoing for... 7 years I think? And what you say is completely true. In the beginning I simply copied some spreads from other people and took it from there to adapt it in the more convenient way to me, which translated into the simpler, the better, and constantly changing to adapt to my needs
this is LITERALLY the best videos our there for making a journaling habit for me! ur explaination is on point with some examples that make me understand easily. tysm!
Great video! Especially love the speed of the clip, your sense of humour and useful suggestions! Thank you and hope you can publish more videos to share your thoughts!
You are awesome, that's all I'm going to say. 👏 You have shown here so well and what every person who BUJO planners should check out. It really is important to know why you need a BUJO journal and keep it simple in the beginning. I agree that there's nothing wrong with making it IG-ready but it might throw people off in the long term. Fundamentally, making the BUJO all about your needs should be prioritized and to consider that first, second or third time will not be the same as you learn and experiment which system works best overtime. Okay, I'm off to watch your other videos
Bro i never felt so happy and inspired by a bullet journal video!! they're always complex and unreal, but yours is light, cozy and >simple < omg! This must be my 80th time doing this 😫
oh i love your spread at 3:51 i use that simple of a spread and it’s perfect for my needs edit: i’ve now finished the video and i love your entire take on bullet journaling so far!! you get it
You are frieken hilarious and my new favorite TH-camr. This is just what I needed because I've been holding back starting one for fear it won't be "perfect". ❤
This video's aesthetic and editing and your narration were awesome!! Congratssss!! I felt I could watch this forever hahahha thank you for your tips! I guess the one that works best for me is to use it on the same time, and space, no matter what
Did my little eye spy a Colorado Springs sticker? ❤ COS! I’m trying to convince my husband to move down there after the kiddo graduates from high school. Stubbled across your channel last night and I’m addicted. Thanks for the great(and humorous) content.

I *almost* agree.
It's absolutely the 2nd most out there and amazing!
But Ryder's own video/videos will always be the most authentic ☺️😘
Same!! I’m a total newbie - came for the bujo tips, stayed for the humor and InCrEdiBLe insight! Thank you Simie ⭐️
Yes yes yes yes.
Finally something relatable

The bougie coffee scene actually made me laugh out loud. Your bujo vids are so helpful to me, thanks for putting these out there!
this is the best summary of all the beginner mistakes on bullet journaling and a few good ways to prevent or deal with them ... and all this within 7 minutes and with a touch of humour.
WHEW. You saved me from unnecessary anxiety.
raggedy handwriting ftw 🤠
I came to make notes for an article I'm writing but left subscribed with all notifications on. This video was easy to watch from start to finish and had me hooked. Plus, your videography skills make me want to figure out how I can start making videos too!
I've been using this method for a few years and really liked this reminder to keep it simple and create your journal to match your needs. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
This was by far one of the best videos about bujo I've ever watched! I'm not a beginner and still had some pretty cool insights from it!
I watched lots of videos about bullet journal. This was my favorite one. Thanks for sharing.
Wow… I’ve been watching a lot of videos regarding bullet journaling and yours it’s the best one .
Efficient and simple .
Love your humor 😂. ❤
wow thxxxxx glad you think so!
That was my exact thought watching Matt D’Vella too!!!! 🤣🤣
Awesome video! Loved it!
The poop tracker giiirl😂👍🏾
Subscribed for the content, staying for your excellent selection of stickers. I'm going to play this video over and over until I get it through my head to keep things SIMPLE.
I totally love your layout...after I watched a pretty complicated ones. This is more my style.
Bangerrrr ✨ glad it could be that helpful!
I'm so so happy I came across your channel, your humor sprinkled throughout the video is awesome, and your experience is super relatable.
It's really helping me get back into journaling based on need and not aesthetic :)
I ot annoyed with how I couldn't just ctrl+Z in my simple moleskine notebooks so I got a ring binder with loose pages - I liked the idea of being able to switch stuff up.
I like your attitude. I’m sort of on the same path. Figuring out what works. Adding. Dropping. Just doing.
This is the truth about bullet journaling. Well done!
I’ve gathered all of my supplies but have no idea how to start or how to use it. Thank you for this video!❤
Thank u ❣
This is so awesome! So happy to know this helped you. Props to you for sticking with it and trusting the process 🧡
@2:10... That's a good point... first identify the need then provide for the need. 👍🏾
Wahoo!!! Good luck on this go around ✨
Thanks!
No cults here! 🤠
Thanks for taking the pressure off! And I love your editing chops. You seem like an old (wise) soul. If you lived close I'd beg to be your friend!
This video deserves a million views!
Niceeeee! This makes a lot of sense and I can see that it’s working for you! Happy that you started up again 🙌🏾✨
Love this for you!!
100% agree!
I think it's the only video i need on starting my first bullet journal.
I've been watching all your bullet journal videos. These are the most entertaining and helpful information videos I've found for BuJo. Thank you!
Great advice and I love your sense of humor.
Good to know I'm onto something lol.
niceeee 🕺🏾
Great video Simie! I think you managed to address all of the "issues" I've had with bullet journaling, note taking, etc. One of my challenges is finding "new" journals, notebooks, etc. I have several Moleskines and have also adopted high quality notecards that I can easily carry and move. Keep up the great work!
Ok your humour is ON POINT and I love the tips for the video!!!
Your channel is so underrated. Your editing is amazing as well as your honesty and sense of humor. Keep up !!
Your video editing, your silliness in the clips and the way you show your views on productivity and BuJoing are very addictive! I can't stop watching your videos 😍 (Plus, I really like your handwriting!)
I've been BuJoing for...
Thank you and hope you can publish more videos to share your thoughts!
you took the stress out of bullet journaling, thank you
I’ve been bullet journaling since 2016 and this all is SPOT ON.
Thanks so much for the final thoughts, they were what gave me the most worth and supported my well-being the most. It was very valuable, thank you.
That was such a good video! I really like the transitions you did with your narration.
This must be my 80th time doing this 😫
80th time is a charm!
LOL! You're so funny!!! Great editing and storytelling as well. I watched all your bujo videos. Love it!!!
This is so real and so good!! I love your ideas and the poop tracker had me laughing!! 😂😂😂
Been binging journaling videos, this is my favorite so far. Love how you kept it simple and fun.
oh i love your spread at 3:51 i use that simple of a spread and it’s perfect for my needs
edit: i’ve now finished the video and i love your entire take on bullet journaling so far!! you get it
You are frieken hilarious and my new favorite TH-camr. This is just what I needed because I've been holding back starting one for fear it won't be "perfect". ❤
🥹 way too kind
This video's aesthetic and editing and your narration were awesome!! Congratssss!! I felt I could watch this forever hahahha thank you for your tips! I guess the one that works best for me is to use it on the same time, and space, no matter what
Did my little eye spy a Colorado Springs sticker? ❤ COS! I’m trying to convince my husband to move down there after the kiddo graduates from high school.
Stubbled across your channel last night and I’m addicted. Thanks for the great(and humorous) content.
yes you did! 👀 My brother was stationed there for a bit and we went and visited.
