Radishes are a great replacement for potatoes in soups and stews when you're on a Ketogenic diet. We use them all the time. Look in to Daikon Japanese radish too. They're a lot sweeter than the normal red radish. I'd like to try them in a mash like this.
19 below!!! Watching from southern Louisiana and amazed at your weather. If we get a few inches of snow every 5-10 years, it shuts everything down, lol. Thanks for the radish recipe, I've been looking for a recipe that will sub for potatoes.
I was always told growing up, "Dont knock it until you try it". There isn't a whole lot of things I wont eat. This looks delicious. Definitely going to be something I make. We grow lots of radishes each year so it will be a great way to try something new. Great video Joe!
Oh how I want to see the results some people are claiming! Over 2months I’ve yet to see more than 10 pounds…but if it’s slow hope inches and good health are driving the body in the right direction 💕
I think you'd get a much better outcome if you either used double the amount of radishes or mashed the radishes then added the cream and butter. I'm going to try this!
Looks great Joe...Were going to try that....Next time you do the cauliflower, try using cram cheese instead of butter....We use the light cream cheese...salt, pepper to taste....One trick is to dry the cauliflower out before you mash it....let it sit and drip or layout some paper towels...Can’t wait to try the radishes.....The only thing missing in the outdoor shots is Rudolph and the snow man walking across the freezing tundra. Thanks Joe...
I heard about adding taco seasoning to baked radishes. I haven't tried it, but it's supposed to be delicious. Baked or boiled, it would be the same flavor profile, just a different texture.
I’ll have to try the mashed radishes. However I think you may have a different outcome with garden grown radishes if you mash them. Garden grown are much stronger flavor than store bought. Store bought radishes almost have no flavor at all. Unless by boiling the garden grown the strong hot radish flavor is boiled away. It will be an interesting comparison. Thanks for sharing.
You should try roasted radishes. Cut them in half and drizzle with olive oil and seasoning. Put in hot oven till tender and a little brown. I don't care for radishes much either but they are damn good that way. Also, I love your videos but I hate having to re-live this horrible MN weather through your videos. Ha ha. I'm in MN too and when you describe the weather in the intros I'm like oh yeah that was that super cold, shitty day. Lol.
I have roasted radishes before and they are tasty. Just tossed in a little Ghee, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper and roasted at 400 until a knife went through easily.
Radishes and Lima Beans are two vegetables I will not eat, even under the threat of bodily injury. I don't care what ingredients you add to camouflage the taste, you will never coverup the true taste. I give you credit for trying the recipe and found it very good. I know my taste buds would have set off alarms to my brain though!
I wonder if Lima beans are in a keto diet, Which personally I think Keto is damaging in the long run, but hey. Whatever floats your boat. Also what can you do in lieu of gravy which is what you do with mashed .......... Thanks for sharing, Love radishes, never have cooked them though.
Cauliflower mashed is also good.....however you know how much cauliflower it takes to mash to make a meal for 2 people and have enough for seconds.....a lot
I tried spaghetti squash with spaghetti noodles. Yes, it was tasty. Yes, it was fun eating squash noodles. BUT it didn't satisfy as a meal like the real thing. It was fine as a side dish to veal marcella.... Sounds like the radish mash was a big thumbs up, taste wise, but was it satisfying like mashed potatoes. Or was it like a side dish and left you wanting more? ❤🌅🌵
It was very filling, it is a stick to your ribs type thing and although it was delicious, you can not think of it as potatoes because it is for sure not.
@@NorthernSeclusionvery cool, cause I don't remember you saying califlower mash was rib sticking. Whilst on keto you want rib sticking not girly, pinky up kinda foods. Otherwise you'll be hungry and grumpy all the time! 💜🌞🌵
I made them this evening. The only difference is that I cooked my prepared radishes in the microwave. I added salt, pepper, heavy cream , some cream cheese and some parmesan cheese. OMG! THEY WERE TO DIE FOR!!! (I have only ever had them roasted or raw) Who'd have thought????
Wow, You folks are still getting it eh. Mashed radishes sounds like ? but not sure if I will be going there, LOL. Keep warm bud. It is so dry here light switches are a bit of a test eh, LOL. Take care you two.
There's a 55 in my forecast too, but it's the low for tonight. 77/55F. Thought about putting the a/c on. The office is on the south side of the house and got well over 80f. Forecast said scattered showers, too. We'll see. Bundle up, I'm praying that your electric stays on! Kiss the dogs! (cats too 😣!)❤⛅🌵
I'm not a big fan of raw radishes, but they lose their strong flavor once cooked. Had some with dinner tonight that I microwaved for a couple of minutes & then fried in a bit of olive oil & butter along with some Brussels sprouts cooked in the same way. I've also made them mashed & though they don't taste like potatoes they aren't too bad. I do some keto, but not a fanatic. Intermittent fasting has helped me lose a lot of weight. Cutting down on carbs helps a lot, but gotta eat some once in a while.
Turnips are better than Rutabagas but not much and Radishes are better than both. You can use either but you are not suppose to go crazy with them because one serving will fill your daily amount of carbs you are allowed.
I just looked up the carbs. Potatoes have 7 times the carbs of radishes. A 6 oz serving of each is 35 and 5 respectively. I've seen many roasted radish videos.😋 Also, the greens are edible. I just gave some to my bunny to see if he likes them. Melissa could feed them to her rabbit's too 🐇🐇🐇
Please forgive me TH-cam unsubscribe to me I've seen your yard and heard your voice and said I know him how are you doing Joe I just got free radishes and your video was the 1st one to pop up Can't wait to try it I have now resubscribed
Is an hour and a half electricity to boil a handful of salad radishes really necessary? Is microwaving acceptable? And if you’re trying to make radishes palatable why not quick pickles?
Don't boil them in a saucepanful of water for a long time , only to throw away all the nutrients and flavour in the cooking water They are a watery vegetable and particularly suited to cooking in the microwave. I cook mine for abut 3 minutes on full power (1000W) in a Sistema microwave (slightly pressured) container with a few tablespoons of water. They emerge tender and translucent (as do parsnips after about 3-4 minutes). Parsnips and carrots (5-6 mins) taste better than anything boiled on the hob in water. Hardly surprising, as the flavour hasn't been diluted.
So much of individual food likes/dislikes is about texture rather than a specific taste, you know...? Radishes are so quick to grow, why not try them in a window box indoors? Might not get enough sun, dunno. The house and the yard/property is looking good!
I have a couple keto videos on this channel. She could not really stay on it through the holidays and she will still cheat now and then but yes she is back to doing keto. I have a video already edited that I filmed awhile ago where we make beignets. That was a cheat day. Lol.
I understand the difficulty with holidays, as well as funerals, weddings, and moving.😉 That's why I'm trying to get back on it. I will have to search for the Keto videos you did. The hard part is no ice cream.
We actually made a keto friendly "ice cream" We did not do a video on that yet because at the time I was not in the mood to video that day. It wasn't ice cream but it was very good.

We do the mashed cauliflower but jazz it up a little with cheese, bacon, and green onions, down 91 pounds since may 28th!
Yep, mashed cauliflower and riced cauliflower are both good!
Great job and keto on Jim!
KUDOS Jim! I've been doing KETO since Dec 5th, my blood sugars are finally within normal limits, dropped 13#

I have been substituting radishes for potatoes for almost 3 years now. Yummy recipe. Thanks. Greetings from Alberta, Canada. Go Keto:)
Dude ☺️ you sold me on this recipe simply by being yourself - so frickin’ honest you were!!! I’m going to absolutely make this THANX

So glad I live in Vermont, the Mountains knock the wind down unless you live on top of one :) Love radish. Plant them several times they grow fast :)

Kudos to you Joe. I know you are a potato junkie so that your willing to go to this length for your woman I have to give you full credit.
I love radishes fresh from the garden yum
I'm gonna try this but will be straining the boiled radishes with a muslin cloth to reduce the amount of water
My daughter makes the radish mash too and also puts them in with a pot roast instead of potatoes and they r very good that way too
I’m feeling really dumb right now. I never knew that was how you use the salt grinder lid. 😂
I didn't either. Lol. i watched Melissa do it and I was like... Really? Lol.
Lol me too
Me either!😳🤣

Very interesting and intriguing!
Hope you two have a great weekend 👍
We use turnips, about the same taste , but they are bigger and we grow them in the garden.
I'm growing turnips atm for this type of recipe too. I also like swedes, just a little bit though...

Try the long Japanese Daikon radish. They;re, wonderful when cooked
Make it a little thicker by decreasing the butter and milk. Might be good with sour cream instead of milk...if that's Keto
I believe it is, that would work well.
Faux potatoes ala Joe, that’s LOVE

No beans if your doing keto. I am not sure on the gravy thing, I have not got that far yet.Lol.
you should have your own cooking/weather channel ..you are always cooking something and giving updates on the weather
Joe you need an instant pot ..it would have cooked very fast and cost less to cook it ..just a thought ..hihi

Things are dry and shocking here also. I cant wait for some humidity.
My wife chops the radishes and fries them up like you fry your potatoes. Its not a potato but it is good once and awhile.
I need to try that, I think that would be good.
Roasted radishes are very good !
I use them in pot roast and can't tell the difference tastes just like small potatoes
Radishes are wonderful in place of potatoes in pot roast or roasted with chicken or other low carb veggies like mushrooms etc

Thank you, Joe. Your vids--even when mashing radishes?! are always entertaining. Stay warm, my friend.
Also if you roasted them they would come out dryer ,I'll try that too.
When are you going back to the tent sure miss those videos
In May for sure, not sure if I will be up there before that. I usually am not but this year who knows.
Have yall broken any snow fall records or is like this every year?
Not for the year but we did break some records in some places of the state for the month of February's snowfall. Only by a couple inches.
Joe you should make and sell those tables. I want one.
I would add cream cheese instead of milk. And yes, I'd add cheese as well.
Is an hour and a half electricity to boil a handful of salad radishes really necessary? Is microwaving acceptable? And if you’re trying to make radishes palatable why not quick pickles?
Put a damp towel under your cutting board. It won't slip around.
Try cooking them with a beef roast, that is the way I cook them.
i heard that roasting the radishes in the oven are much better flavoring. kinda remind you of red pototoes
Would it still be Keto if you added some sour cream and chives to that ?
Yes it would be.
