- The 2023 Volkswagen Amarok is FINALLY here and is based on the much awarded All-New Ford Ranger, but comes in at a higher price despite sharing most things...
That of course does not mean the Amarok is a bad Ute! In fact it is still one of the best utes around. But when you're spending so much on a ute, you deserve to know what is great, but also what is not. And so in today's review of the all-new Amarok, we're going to take you through everything we love and don't about the new Volkswagen Amarok!

I suppose the stiffer suspension might be quite good if your carrying heavier loads in the back of the amarok
Despite being a Volkswagen fan boy, I’m all for the Ranger after being disappointed by the new Amarok’s lack of practicality and spec. I would def buy a higher specd Ranger for the same price as this. They had a chance to make the Amarok great again but unfortunately it looks soft and they went el cheapo on the inside.
The Ranger is made in Thailand…..the Amarok is made in South Africa 😬
The Amarok has the indicator switch on the LHS of the steering wheel 🤯

The VW factory in South Africa tends to be quite good. The world's best car factory is there as well, the Mercedes-Benz one.
Like usual, I enjoyed your review. I'm in the market for a new dual cab
and test drove a few models of the new Amarok 2 weeks ago. Agree with most of your comments on Style model interior (hate the faux brown wood bits), loved the seats, dash, wheel etc. No issues on trim fit on the car I drove .. and I was looking.
Heavy steering? Seriously disagree. I found it light, weighted better than Ranger Wildtrack and better feel because of it. And I just didn’t get the “too stiff” dampers either. Well not on the Style anyway … but the Aventura definitely felt jittery from the rear with those 21’s.
Price? Wildtrak actually matches better spec/spec with Style although does have electric tray roller cover which is (shudder!) $4700 option on Amarok. What to order?
The poor build would be a deal killer for me. My ocd was triggered by the glovebox not sitting flush
It's a shame! But considering it's built in a Ford factory, it's hard to blame VW

Maybe, but consider this is a press hack vehicle. I saw no fit issues on the model I drove.
Have you guys tried a Ssangyong Musso XLV Ultimate for $55k? Not the fastest or most powerful but a decent ride for the coin.
It would be interesting to see how it goes on outback dirt roads because in my book it has to do the job well first.
What make and model of tyres is fitted to the Rok compared to the Ranger? Are the tyres fitted to the Rok made in South Africa?
The interior build quality is simply not up to scratch period. Is the ranger really better though? Amarok is built in south africa, the ranger in thailand.

Yes. However it is extraordinarily expensive. The Aventura costs more than 90K Euro. The wildtrak X is 43k- euro. The Ranger raptor is 71k. You would have to be complete idiot to buy a VW Amarok. And... the ford is a hybrid.
@@pablomax9376 agreed. The price of these huge vehicles is climbing astronomically. Even with tax advantages etc...
Maybe it's not for tradies so much as for the family guy who probably likes to have a good spin - with out a tub full of tools. More of a family or supervisors vehicle or a guy with a property like me! I drove one and absolutely love it.
Was getting so stiff hearing about how stiff the ride was 🎉
Ford Ranger is the one to get;. My neigbour has one and told me its an excellent vehicle.

@@meneeringenieur1866 He had Jeep before that there must have been problems. I have a Ford Falcon FG G6E it was an Avis car before I bought it. Traded in a BA Fairmont. The Fairmont was a nice car but designed in a hurry with issues. The FG has been very good. I cannot comment on the Ranger as never had one. I am sure if there were any issues he would tell me. Seems very happy drives it everywhere.

Please be smart when comparing to the ranger. In terms of price the Amarok Style with premium leather is almost the same price as the Ranger Wildtrak with the premium package.
Other reviewers seem to compare the Style with the Sport which doesn't seem right as the Ranger Sport is about 3K cheaper. The Wildtrak is basically the same price as the Style.
Exactly right. Spec for spec Style is closer to Wildtrak and interior is better. Doesn’t have the tray roller though
The Amarok in my view is way over priced…..not to mention the indicator switch is on the LHS.

Get over badge engineering. GM started it in 1931, few ever complained. Think of the many Opels branded as Vauxhall, Chev or even Holden and, oh, Daewoo.
Experienced a presentation of this the other day by Vw to one of its dealers, went down like a lead balloon iam afraid.
Fan boys will be all over this, crying, arguing and generally losing their s@#t. I’m going to sit back and laugh at all of them
I took 1 for a test drive and the inside of car felt poorly put together that's for sure
All I know is Toyota does not have to worry about loosing sales to the Ford Amarok or the Ford Ranger. The Hilux will sell three times the number of units when compared to the twins. The Ford Ranger is the most un-reliable Ute/Bakkie in Australia & South Africa. All a potential buyer who is looking to purchase a Ford Ranger needs to do is do a Google search and find out for themselves the horrendous issues that Ford owners are going through with electronics, oil leaks etc.,
I'm happy I spent my money on a 2023 Toyota Hilux GR-S!!

In my country, Ranger overtook Hilux. Toyota has a bad reputation for not honouring warranties.
Also Google the many Toyota problems. Toyota's cars often are rebranded BMW, Daihatsu, Subaru, Isuzu, Suzuki, etc.
i REALLY dont like the gear shifter buttons on the stick. why not give it paddle shifters? :/

This vehicle is just a re-badged ford ranger. Just like a Lexus GX550 the newer one looks like a Land Rover defender

Im sorry, you came across very ford biased. You completely downplayed the terrible screen in the ranger and how bad the seats are. And kept harping on about VW tax, but fail to mention you would pay similar money but be stuck with a ford...
