    A great tip for weeds in the garden: using equal amounts of lemon juice and vinegar in a spray bottle or a 2gal. Spray container. Plus it doesn’t damage the soil. The weeds might grow back…. “ Happy Gardening “

    Weed barrier releases micro plastics into your yard as they age, they break down. Plastic can grow into your food. Small hand rake and beat the small weed growth out. Cardboard will also smother them. It's a pain but better than plastic.

    Miz Asia, I am so glad you're trying to grow parsnips - but I know from experience they sometimes seem really hard to germinate! They can take up to 4 weeks to actually sprout, and so if they don't sprout within a week, I'm usually giving up on them, too - Ain't nobody got time for that - LOL I have heard that soaking them overnight can help kickstart the process, but haven't tried it myself. I'm also in zone 7b, so your "last seeds for 2023" is a great reminder for me to double-check what's growing and what isn't in my own garden... And maybe pop a few seeds in while I'm out there!

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Heather! Ok thank you for all this information! I will give them a month to sprout but still get some some starts just in case. Lol the waiting is probably going to take me out 🤣🤣. I nice! Glad to have given you a reminder!

    I agree with you; amending is a pain in the butt and seems like a never ending expense too! I have a garden bed in the front yard that is about 9 ft. X 5 ft. and have been having to add and add and add soil that will mitigate the red Georgia clay. I have been tilling it every week for about 3 months now and it's still not where I want it to be. I am planting there bit by bit. There are 2 Jalapeno pepper plants there now that are doing well and should give me 12 peppers soon. Wish my soil were as dark as yours! At this rate it might take 50 Lbs. of compost and other amendments to get it to that point. I dig up some of my own from underneath leaf mulch that I left to break down in my yard, and buy other stuff from Tractor Supply. The store bought stuff seems to come in small bags. I remember years ago places used to sell huge bags but now companies are mini-sizing everything and you're paying for a bunch of plastic just to get enough material.
    I noticed you had some seeds from MI Gardener. Did you get in on the garlic he was selling recently? I missed it because I was waiting for all of several varieties I wanted and it looked like the main one I wanted wouldn't be in until the following week, so I went out and spent a few hours working in the garden and came in to find it had been listed and sold out within that time, and the rest of the varieties in my cart were sold out too. I did see some on Etsy of the varieties I want so I may get those this week and still have time to plant them before it gets too late in the Fall. I use alot of garlic in my cooking, so definitely want to grow that, as it is hit and miss getting it in the grocery store these days. Sometimes all they have are little tiny heads in a bag which doesn't last long.

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really is! By spring I’ll have the energy to do it again. Congrats on the peppers! Yeeeesss, the bags are small and you have to get so many. I have a compost area but I haven’t taken care of it like I should have this year.
      I did not get any garlic from MI Gardener. I’m sorry to hear you missed them this time. Honestly, I always just get bulbs from the store and plant them. It works out well.

      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead Thank you for your response. I have squirrels. Have to build a cage or cover cloth. But I really appreciate your videos.

    Hi Asia, how do you keep track of what you planted where without a marker? I do enjoy your channel and I've learned alot.

    I'm interested to see if your onions make an impact on the cabbage worms! I interplanted all of my brassicas with inions this year and I found the number of worms to be a lot lower than most years! Your garden is looking so great!

    Hi Asia, Your garden looks good, i am doing brassicus here in Baltimore , I was glad the heat left but i do love autumn , The trees are so colorful . Being originally from miami, we didn't get all the seasons. So I appreciate the colors. But I still can't get used to the cold. What do you do for your trees in winter? Just wondering...

      Hi 👋🏾! Thank you! O ok nice! They are so delicious harvested fresh. O yes, I love when the trees start to change. The cold is a different story and I’m sure a huge change from Florida. I don’t do anything special to the trees except prune them in fall. So far they have grown back each year. Happy growing!!

      O hi 👋🏾! We aren’t far from each other. It’s from Roots & Refuge. She has a channel on TH-cam. Luckily they have so far stayed in my front yard where the larger trees are. I haven’t had an issue with them.

    May I ask what do you do with all the plant waste? Aside from composting? Burn it or will the trash service take it?
