  • The Direct TV satellite dish sat on top of my garage for years after I cut the cord with them. Time for an upgrade.

    Good video Bob. The easiest way to connect the coax to the antenna is by removing the dipole. It is super easy. Connect it to the RF connector and just spin it.

      I do that now but it's impossible to do with the 148381 and 148383 without removing the phasing strips.

    The shamless greed of the cable companies has made millions of people cut the cable and go back to antennas.

      Cable companies have no shame. In the age of internet cable TV is obsolete.

    Couple of things.
    1. You should add a lightning arrestor copper wire a foot above the antenna, clamp it to the mast with a SS pipe clamp. Run it to a grounded copper pipe pounded in the dirt.
    3. Ground the coax with a ground block and join it to the pipe in the ground. Now your components are safe from a lightning strike ruining everything in its path.

      Agreed. It is grounded now. Thank you

    As a suggestion you should test the antennas so we can see the results, and tell your personal opinion. Just like Antenna Man.

    unclip the agc unit and attach the cable, then snap it back in. probably a little late to be of help to you, but maybe somebody that comes along afterwards :) Televes makes fine antennas and my Datboss LR Mix is the mac daddy of them all.

      Apparently that's in the instructions, installing the cable before the AGC unit and the lower reflector. But I missed it and just jammed my way through. Between you and me, that coax connection should be straight up and down.

    I cut the cord with DirecTV, but unfortunately, the dish mount is on the wrong side of my house to use...
    I did purchase a cheap J pole, and got it mounted properly.
    While I'm sure DirecTV properly grounded the dish, you might want to make sure, just to be safe.

    Hey Bob, You should do a 2 year review on this antenna so we can see how its holding up. Thanks !

    The whole time you was removing the direct tv dish , im was thinking to my self you could use it for 97W

    • @Nicholas_Chris
      @Nicholas_Chris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Leo Brocato it is good for 97 West but the problem is with the LNB, FTA satellite channels are broadcasting linear, so you need a Universal LNB, the Direc TV dish is broadcasting circular so you need to change the LNB, But I would but another dish. Also two diplxers, an outdoor diplexer for combining the satellite dish and antenna, and an indoor diplexer to separate the signals, one cable goes to the TV/Converter Box the second cable goes to the satellite receiver.

    you could have to use the clamp that was attached to the direct tv dish instead of drilling a hole .that would have been easier.

    • @bobh.4580
      @bobh.4580  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Ellipse mast was a different size and fit a little looser in the hole so the clamp wouldn't tighten up on it.

    Good video, thanks. One question, why do some pics of this antenna show it pointed upward instead of level? I recently installed the same antenna in my elderly parents attic in Northern NJ, they’re getting over 80 channels from NYC!!

    just would like to know did you know the locations for your local towers to aim for before you just tossed that up there

    • @bobh.4580
      @bobh.4580  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know the aim. I can get it pretty accurately every time but I use a spectrum analyzer to aim it.

    Thanks for the video! I have a question for you: I'm between two markets. One is about 70 miles north, the other about 25 miles south east. We've had one of those big square antennas pointing to the north stations. We could pick them up at night, but not during the day. The south east stations came in, no problem. Recently though, the south east stations were getting weaker and weaker, so I turned the antenna a smidge to it could pick them up better, but then lose signal on the north ones. Long was to ask, but I'm looking this same antenna. My question is, are you picking up stations from the opposite way your antenna is pointing? (if there are any)

      @David Craig I have no idea what you're talkin about. I get 146 TV stations, OTA. The boondocks are sparsely populated areas away from cities where OTA TV signals might not be feasible..
      I'm not even close to 80 years old, and I just found out the Boondocks is it cartoon when I Googled it.

      @@Nicholas_Chris don't take offense please. Maybe if I had discovered free satellite before I became an antenna nut, I would probably be playing around with that. My biggest problem was when it rained, snowed or when the trees got leaves on them the aim of my DirecTV satellite dish was not optimal.
