Televes DiNova Boss Mix Amplified Outdoor HD TV Antenna

  • This is my review of the Televes DiNova Boss Mix VHF/UHF Outdoor TV Antenna. It runs about $80, comes with a built in amplifier, LTE filter, and output two TV sets. The antenna also claims to pick up reliably reception within 60 miles of the broadcast towers - much more honest compared to the false advertised 150 mile antennas you see. How well does it work?

@@1ronhall I had Dish Take down my DirecTV dish, install the Televes DigiNova Boss antenna in it's place and connect it to my Tablo. They did all that for $160. Great deal as far as I am concerned. My distance to towers ranges from 13 miles to 52 miles. The channels I watch are all less than 20 miles. And, all but PBS are in the same direction. Still pick up PBS though.

I was going to buy this antenna last week but I was afraid to get it. I knew that Televes has a good reputation, but knew nothing about this particular antenna and frankly it was too good to be true. I checked your channel to see if you had reviewed it, you had not, so I decided to go the safe route and went with a RCA antenna you like and gets recommended for my area. When I saw today that you reviewed this model I immediately went to see if I could cancel my order on the other antenna but too late. The main reason I like this Televes is that it's so camouflaged I could get away with this as a roof mount in my neighborhood as no one around me has a roof mounted TV antenna and I cannot put an antenna in my attic since my roof is metal. I know that my RCA is just as good but this Televes is very slick . BTW good work on your channel.

I really have to thank you for all this great information. We got rid of cable recently and I went right out and bought a cheap flat tv antenna, the kind you don't recommend haha. We live in Boston, so there are quite a few strong channel signals. For the past month I've been watching your videos and paying attention, and I am learning a lot. Since we got rid of cable, I am not in a hurry, I know this will take some experimenting. I've tried 3 cheap antennas so far. I combined 2 cheap antennas (with a splitter that you don't recommend) and it's not much better. With the information you provide, though, I won't waste any more money and I'll know the right thing to do. So far I did everything wrong. You are providing a valuable service. Keep up the good work! and thanks again

Great review video as always. It's about time someone paid attention to this little antenna. I had Dish Network install an OTA antenna last summer and this is the one they installed. I had never heard of this brand before it was installed but, I have to say, I've been very pleased with it so far (one year in). We live in the north east so, sometimes, we can get hit with some extreme weather and, this little antenna has never dropped a signal. I have it connected directly to my FireTV Recast so I can record my OTA channels (an upgrade over the One by One flat panel interior antenna I was using when I first got the Recast) and it was the best decision I ever made. Once It was pointed at the towers (all roughly 20 - 30 miles away at the most) it's been pretty much "set it and forget it". It just works...and it works well!!!

I do have a question tho- the preamp will require electricity, yes? So, in addition to the cable running to antenna, I also have to have an outdoor powercord running to it as well? Doesnt that sort of negate the 'clean line, simplified design' look of the antenna? Not sure I want to look at powercord running up the side of my house... I read the built in pre amp is passive if unpowered. That's unique. I don't know of any pre amps that allow the signal to pass thru if the unit is unpowered. So I have to ask if you had a power inserter on the coax when you tested this antenna. Per Televes website this built in pre amp will adjust the gain according to the channel being received at the time. I can see this low profile design being adapted for RV use. The crank up antenna mast on the Winegard Sensar antenna would be ideal and the built in power inserter every RV has should work fine for this.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I tried it both with and without the preamp and it performed worse with the preamp on so I showed the signal test with the preamp off. I does have "powerless pass through" so if the power inserter is unplugged you still get reception.

(3) Is this Spainish piece worthy of the money, or should we keep to the red, white and blue (American Made, by Americans). (4) Who would be potential customers? Most people doing small antennas like that usually get fed up of the 6 channels they get, because those antennas don't have the gain to reach markets farther then 60 miles. I can try to field some of these. (1) The Dinova is directional in UHF (with about a 60 degree beam intended to be a bit more flexible for multi-direction applications) and bidirectional in VHF High (front and back reception) - (2) Distance ratings are very arguable because distance will depend on a lot of variables, from the transmitted power to the terrain to the elevation the antenna is installed at, probably the best answer to this is to say that the Dinova is a mid-gain antenna that will cover a number of moderate signal situations, it’s typically defined as a suburban antenna and when a range is mentioned it’s referred to as a 60 mile antenna, although we’ve seen plenty of cases of longer distances depending on the circumstances, the TForce built in amplifier will automatically adjust the levels according to the signal being received, and it has a large dynamic range that allows it to pull up weak signals w/o saturating on the stronger stations - (3) With regards to country of origin the precedence of the Dinova is Spain, where it has been designed, developed and entirely manufactured, not the US but closer than where most American brand antennas are made nowadays - (4) The target market for the Dinova are installations where a discreet antenna is desired, hence the radomized design, but w/o giving up quality or performance at the given form factor. I hope this helps.

No they have small towers to protect WPSG and WPPX which broadcast on the same frequencies they do.

Can you review both the Televes 130581 Bexia Indoor Antenna & Televes Innova Boss Indoor Antenna? I can't use an outdoor one where I live. Seems like those are the only 2 models that company sells on Amazon.

I would love to have and test the Bexia indoor antenna but I find it overpriced for my wallet. By the way, who sells the Televes Innova in the States? I can't find it anywhere. I see it sells at a lower price vs the Bexia, overseas:

Tyler, when I put the Bexia into an Amazon search, it shows nothing, so here is the link for the antenna: www.amazon.com/130581-Bexia-Performance-Automatically-Omnidirectional/dp/B07Y8V531C

Even so , there are No indoor antennas or
antennas indoors that will produce and provide
      perfect indoor reception.
The reason I say this is because many Humans
think some how by magic or something
they will find the perfect antenna.
Some day the Humans will find a way around
the laws of the physics , however not yet.

Does this one need to be grounded since it has mainly a plastic case?

Yes all outdoor antennas have to be grounded. I have a video on the topic of grounding outdoor antennas. Check out my other videos.
