    New cord cutter here.
    I started my adventure, with the GE 29884, as well as the GE 42179 signal amp.
    It worked pretty well, but I live right at 45 miles from Lexington, KY, so any kind of bad weather, or wind, would cause the signals to drift pretty bad.
    So, I decided to extend my pole to about 20 feet, but the signals really didn't get much better.
    I then decided, I'd take a chance, and purchase the Ellipse Mix antenna, after watching many of your videos.
    Well, let me tell you, the difference is day and night!
    The Ellipse signal strength is almost double from the GE!
    When I set up the Ellipse, I first turned the power to the amp off, and used the signal meter in my Tivo Edge.
    Another really awesome thing is, that the Ellipse's tilt angle can be adjusted, and it actually helped with getting the strongest signal possible.
    I'm not knocking the GE 29884, but for my distance from broadcasters, it just wasn't enough.
    I'm so happy, to have told DirecTV to take their stuff back, LOL!
    Thanks for all your informative videos!

    Without a doubt, Televes makes a great antenna at every price point compared to the competition.
    My Dat Boss Mix LR is now 2 years old and it continues to work flawlessly in the mountains of
    Northern Arizona.

      Quick ? Forgive, I'm uneducated when it comes to this. But what exactly will this antenna provide, other than better quality images and improved latency. Will you just be able to grab local channels and networks? Similar to how we use to have those networks back in the day on our regular analog antennas?

    • @Boomerlake
      @Boomerlake 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@scarrillo31 It will get high powered stations out to around 75 miles, provided that at 75 miles they are on very high towers of around 1800 ft. high or better. And your reception path is clear of obstructions, such as mountains and not any nearby trees in the signal path.

    It is relatively expensive compared to other similar combination antennas but with the built-in preamp and maybe the best build for weather resistance, for many people it is probably is worth it. And, I like Tyler’s and others’ point that the the cost may be quickly recovered after a few months of not paying for cable or satellite TV service.
    He didn’t mention that, if it’s like other Televes models, the inside-the-home power adapter / power inserter has two powered outputs so a splitter is not needed for connecting to a recorder or a second TV.

    • @TelevesUSA
      @TelevesUSA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Between two markets. One is about 70 miles north, the other about 25 miles south east. (actually for my mother who doesn't know squat about antennas). We've had one of those big square antennas pointing to the north stations. We could pick them up at night, but not during the day. The south east stations came in, no problem. Recently though, the south east stations were getting weaker and weaker, so I turned the antenna a smidge to it could pick them up better, but then lose signal on the north ones. My question is, if I point this antenna to the north stations, would the closer south east stations still be picked up with decent quality? I'm assuming yes (because the big square antenna did), but would like to ask others who have tried this antenna.

    Tyler, I mounted this Televes Ellipse Mix Antenna in my parents attic in Harrington Park, NJ. It’s working great & they’re receiving around 98 channels from NYC! I was wondering why the mounting clamp is tilted so the antenna is pointed toward the sky & is shown this way in pictures? I adjusted it so the antenna is level but should it be tilted up slightly? Nowhere do I see any info on this. Thanks so much & have a great day.

Now get 52 channels (42 before) and the signal across all of them is much stronger. Our TVs only have 5-bar signal indicators but all channels are 4-5 bars solid now. And it's a rainy, windy day today. Using the powered amp, lose about 15 stations w/o it on. Expensive but worth it for great reception.

    • @AntennaMan

      The VHF element is where the coax connector is located. It's the long ride in the middle of the two "U" shapes. The other portion is a reflector. It does not need to make contact with the coax.

    Tyler I have a question.I recently installed a weinguard 8200 I antenna at about 25 ft. I'm very disappointed with it. I thought I had low vhf channels here but now I'm not sure. I also installed a Televes dual input amplifier so I could pick up channels from Chattanooga but when I point it at Chattanooga and the other at Nashville I hardly pick up anything. Would a Televes antenna work better in my area? I had a medium sized RCA up before all this and it picked up more than the much larger Weinguard does.

    How does this compare to the Televes Datboss Mix?
    Beyond the 5G filtering capability, would this Ellipse be expected to be an upgrade over the Datboss Mix?
    I installed the Datboss a few months ago and it's just barely adequate. So something that is definitely better is appealing.

    I love your videos. I don’t know where to ask this question on which video…. I have 2 different Sony tv’s. I hook up 1 tv to an antenna, channel scan picks up 93 channels. I then connect the same antenna to a different Sony tv and get 47 channels. Do different tv’s simply have different quality/strength tuners?

    How is channel 6 WPVI and Channel 2 MeTV reception? These are VHF low channels, which I usually can pick up on antennas that aren't designed for VHF low, though sometimes I need to remove window insect screens or shutoff LED light bulbs that interfere or block these channels.

    OK I deleted the previous thread to put it in a nutshell here. I live in Glassboro, NJ and I have the 150-mile Amazon antenna that is actually compared in this video. I bought and installed this Ellipse as the numbers were showing almost 20 points higher than mine. To my surprise the reception was worse for 6ABC and Fox29. Actually 6 disappeared. Tyler said I bought the wrong antenna, and I was confused. I called Televes and the said the antenna didn't receive that frequency and actually filtered it out. So, if you want 6ABC in Philly as I did this one will not work.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. This is a high VHF/UHF antenna. It works well in most areas but since Philadelphia has 6ABC, a low VHF capable antenna is needed. How about testing RV and Marine TV antennas?

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "best antenna for an RV" is one that's best for the frequencies in the area. Limiting yourself to just an "RV antenna" is unlikely to get you good results. Look at the frequencies in the areas you travel to and order an antenna that's sufficient for them. Maybe a medium sized antenna that you can put up and point as you travel.

    • @wallacegrommet9343
      @wallacegrommet9343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marine and RV antennas are a whole new world of components. Most are omnidirectional, in different shapes and sizes. Prices, too. Only a few, larger units contain vhf elements. I want TV when anchored, so the position of the boat is always changing, which I would think rules out directional antennas. I haven’t found any real world tests yet.

    • @markfuller
      @markfuller 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any antenna will work in an attic. You'll get somewhat less signal strength than mounted on the roof. The question is what size antenna you need based upon how far you are from the transmitters, and if your attic's space will accommodate that size.
      Depending on how many directions you need to point (if only 2 directions?), it could be better to mount two antennas in the attic dedicated to those directions. Use an A/B switch to to select which antenna the tv uses.

    I had tried three other antennas and the reception I got from those antennas were just horrible. I bought this antenna based on the reviews I saw on this channel. The result? I couldn't be happier! It pulled in all the local channels I had hoped to receive with the exception of the PBS station located 30 miles away from my location. This antenna is well constructed and gives me excellent picture quality on all channels. Actually, the quality is much better than what the cable TV provider gave me.
    My only advice is to watch a couple of videos that show how to assemble it before you start to put it together. Even with the videos, written instructions, and an able helper, I still had to redo some things 3 times before I got them right. But, then again I am easily confused.😃
