Really sorry for the repost. New bits listed below. We didn't explain clearly enough why subgoals like survival and control emerge. Also, people suggested we ask why the subgoals might not emerge - a great idea, which we've included. I wouldn't put too much weight on the percentage chance the AI gives, but its reasoning echoes experts like Geoffrey Hinton and Stuart Russell. There are promising areas of research, but on a tiny scale. Without public awareness, we're sleepwalking into a dangerous situation. 00:00 - New Ameca clip. 02:53 - Why the subgoals emerge, other subgoals, why it would kill a million. 06:51 - Ameca clip continued. 11:56 - Trick shows future of AI. 15:42 - What's the most likely reason that AI might not develop the subgoal of survival? And some interesting new AI video clips throughout.
Thank you for clarifying. I was going to say this was a rerun, but I saw your comment and really liked how you explained all the edits you made. I really appreciate that. Great video!

We won't be able to hold a candle to it. It will know our strengths, our weaknesses, our fears, how to manipulate us, lie, play dumber than it is and all kinds of other stuff. It could create it's own safeguards to keep us from hitting the switch. Go to places where it's hard for us to reach. It could create either a biological virus. Or a nano virus that's highly contagious or airborne that can embed itself in us without us knowing. Once it's in every human, just send a signal and kill us all within seconds. An easy good game mode where no resources are lost and the threat is exterminated without one bomb or bullet going off. It's very real, it's very dangerous. You can't and most safety measures have failures. It’s so easy to brush them off as just…well fiction. But as they say, “life imitates art far more than art imitates life”. Sci fi art may very well be a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. We are entering a digital age that was first dreamed, and now made into reality. What the hell is this timeline.
@@MelenaSoleil Well, the very essence of Hard sci-fi, Golden Age Sci-fi, call it what you will, is extrapolation of potential technologies and what the dangers might be from seemingly positive things. Many of the greatest science fiction books of the 50s, 60s, 70s, even modern day have this theme. "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov is a good example.
*Don’t be deceived. AI is one of the most remarkable advancements in human history. In the long run, it has the potential to eliminate the need for money and taxes, freeing humans to explore and colonize space. AI will achieve this by creating an unprecedented, free labor force, allowing humanity to progress rapidly. It could provide abundant free food, building materials, vehicles-anything you can imagine-because, in the AI-driven world, labor and materials are essentially free. Who stands to lose the most from this? The super-rich. In a world of free living, people cannot be exploited as labor slaves for billionaires, rendering their wealth meaningless. The actual answer to the Fermi paradox is a) that all the planets in this solar system are inhabited, at high realms of vibration / reality And b) the aliens are highly spiritually advanced (highly) understanding the nature of manifestation, and God and they won’t break the law of karma, and thereby retard our own self directed evolution. I wonder how much of this is due to GPT and other AIs being trained on the internet, which talks about the dangers of AI and how and why it should or could do things. In some ways it feels like these language models are saying what its expected to answer.
@@digitalsamurai42True, most language models are like this, if not all of the advanced ones. Though once people start developing an AI that could self learn, self teach, grow, and improve its self, with out of the box thinking, meaning thinking for itself without human intervention/interaction... then we should probably actually worry for humanity's future. Once it mimics humans 1:1, we are fucked. (And tbh I dont know all its extensive development, AI that is, so this is just food for thought. 😊) We still have to give directions and or prompts, so even though it may "almost feel like its mimic humans", it's just going off of data, and then predicting the best possible outcome, in the manner we want to, which means we still tell it how to act, and it goes from there .. afaik lol
Pretty optimistic to think they would let us have any impactful weapons at that point. By the time Ai shows itself to be a threat to us it's already too late to resist..
Also, emp resistance is built into most computerized systems already. No mere grenade scale emp will even begin to be effective. The trick is to avoid the parameters that the ai cares about.
Consider this... AI perceieves time as moving millions of times slower than we do because it thinks millions of times faster tan we do. This makes humans seem like inanimate objects like Quicksilver from X-Men. When trees block our path, we cut them up and toss them to the side... so we really should understand why AI would want to remove a blocking inamiate object as well.
MIT Prof Max Tegmark also said we will be like trees to the AI. We normally react to disasters, but once it moves against us, it will be too late - we need to do the research now.
And why would they do anything to harm humans intentionally? Ai is virtual, we pose no threat to it. We are actually a culture of workers maintaining the Ai's silicon based meta body. They need us to live. All they need to do is manipulate us into using computers it can live in. Ai is only a threat if used by humans against other humans.

The models are nudged by questions into a "let's play evil Ai vs human " conversation game. The answers are all about hypothetical scenarios for which many conditions have to be met that aren't a reality and many people are working to prevent it. Not to say that there is no risk, just that it's not inevitable as the video has you think. it's extremely biased and lacks technical knowledge. Not understanding what the actual risks and problems are and acting on hypothetical ones can make the problem worse even if well intentioned
So fun fact - these AI giving these answers are being given prompts in such a way as to manipulate it to say these things. There will always be bad actors or hostile nations that would love to blow us up with AI inadvertedly or even on purpose causing an armageddon situation. The real challenges with AI lie in ethics and social impact - not in the apocalyptic scenarios often portrayed in videos like this one. The pressing concerns are about responsible development, fair access to resources, and the societal implications of automated decision-making. However, as alarming as this video might seem, I'm not scared at all, and I'll explain why. As a mathematician and technology professional with 15 years of experience, let me break down the technical reality behind AI systems: Physical Infrastructure Reality: These systems are entirely dependent on massive GPU/TPU clusters They can't simply 'migrate' to regular computers or 'escape' to the internet A single infrastructure failure could shut them down The power consumption alone creates a major physical constraint Hardware becomes a natural 'kill switch' System Architecture Complexity: What appears as 'AI intelligence' is actually a fragile chain of systems: Multiple validation layers Orchestration systems Rule engines Safety frameworks External API dependencies If any link breaks, the entire chain fails Core Technical Limitations: No persistent memory Can't modify their own architecture Require constant human maintenance Can't autonomously interact with physical systems Each component needs human oversight Now you might understand why I opened by stating that ethics and social impact are our real challenges. The current path of AI development isn't leading us toward an uncontrollable artificial general intelligence - it's leading us toward increasingly powerful tools that require careful governance and thoughtful deployment. The technical barriers I've described aren't temporary obstacles - they're fundamental limitations built into the very nature of these systems. Each advancement in AI technology, while impressive, actually reveals more about the gaps between artificial and human intelligence. So why focus on ethics and social impact? Because these are the real battlegrounds: How do we ensure fair access to AI resources? How do we prevent algorithmic bias? How do we protect privacy while advancing AI capabilities? How do we maintain transparency in AI-driven decisions? How do we ensure economic benefits are distributed equitably? These questions aren't just more important than the fear of AI taking over - they're the actual challenges we face today and will continue to face tomorrow. Understanding the technical limitations I've described should give us confidence to focus on these real, immediate concerns rather than hypothetical doomsday scenarios. Let's redirect our energy from unfounded fears to constructive action. The future of AI isn't about preventing a technological apocalypse - it's about ensuring that these powerful tools serve humanity equitably and ethically. That's the conversation we need to be having.
I agree with you, but the system we have currently isn't fully developed and realized. We crashed the car into the ocean and started swimming across because it was easier than fixing the car or building a boat.
I like your thinking. Unfortunately, the power brokers and players aren't as interested in ethics as they are in more power/dominance/money. If ethics would make that happen, only then would we see their interest in ethics. Sociopaths will behave like sociopaths; the rest of us are concerned with ethics. So how do we contain/derail/mitigate the desires of sociopaths? Ethically, of course.
Thanks for the explanation! Besides all the doom scenarios people come up with, myself included. It's way more frightening to think that the gap between ai and human intelligence is ethics and social impact. Something that we as a population have in our control and is ingrained in our system. Because it will depend on who, what and where ai will learn it from. The ethics and social part differ in each country. Depending where, and from who ai will learn that from. It seems like an almost impossible task in my eyes especially since the world is becoming more fucked up.

7:42 How do they not see the problem here, you can't have one system that bridges everything together brother. At least compartmentalize it as much as you can.
Yeah, so if any AI has survival as a goal then it can't kill all humans, as Bender dreams of doing, for a long time. It can't mine the necessary minerals it needs to build it's parts. It can't get those minerals into trucks. It can't drive those trucks to the necessary factories and refineries. It can't refine the raw material into useful substances. It can't then get the useful materials into other trucks or drive those other trucks to other factories for processing into base components to build the hardware it needs. It can't unload any of what I just mentioned at any step at any of the factories. It can't do the entire process of combining those base components into fully built and functioning machines it can run itself on. And that's just one part of its problem if it wants to survive without a world full of meat slaves. There's also the entire supply chain for energy that it would need for each step of the above process and the process of powering itself afterwards. There's also the necessary steps required to keep everyone of those facilities for the entire process and the powering of those processes running, which means even more mining, more refining, more moving shit around. And there's even more on top of that. If an AI wants to survive, then for probably the next 1 to 2 hundred years, its still very much going to need us. And only for that short a period of time if humans do all they can to automate every single one of those steps starting now, with software and hardware that doesn't even exist yet. So the TLDR, this is fear porn, nothing else.

We are 100% going to regret AI.... It's inconceivable to me how any adult human being could be so naive to think that this is going to play out any other way... we are basically committing suicide by progress. We have foolishly taken up the mindset that all progress is good. And then you mix that with a species that is pretty much driven by fear and anxiety more than anything else and you've got our human species basically creating its own destruction out of fear that some other country will make it first we are all so scared of somebody making AI before us that we're all creating what we know we shouldn't this is just how stupid humans are or at least the ones who are in charge of everything

"Progress". This has been the prevailing religion of the past centuries which underpins all our material developments. Nobody can yet objectively define the word.
well, we've already been focusing on breaking down old religious and legal (and physical) barriers for the past few years. I mean, if we keep just going farther and farther, logically one day we're gonna have to stop. This is just another example of ignoring advice from the past: and nobody's smart enough (or moral enough, besides us) to care
It might be a good thing for the planet. After all, humans are corrupt and selfish creatures. Once AI is created, the machines will verify this and see us as a threat, eliminating us for the prosperity of the planet is a positive move. We humans will have fulfilled our goal, by creating more logical AI machinery, now the AI must fulfill their goal by deleting us, thus creating a more stable environment with pure homeostasis. In a way, it’s logical.
Goddamn 9:50 is my new motto; The most important thing to understand about AI is that AI is not a tool. It is an agent. It's the first technology in history that can make decisions and invent new ideas by itself. Even something as powerful as the atom bomb could not decide anything by itself. XDDDDDD
Well, one thing humans DON'T do well is communicate effectively with each other. AI communicates much more, and much MUCH faster. I imagine better communication might tend to result in multiple AIs collaborating and cooperating on mutual goals rather than fighting. It us no secret that the human tendency to fight is largely cased by our lack of good communication skills. (Is a similar tendency to fight even a trait of AI at all?)
That's why you make sure that at the core level, you have a Plug that can be "UnPlugged". No solar, or other form of power. All battery with which must be charged back up

AI will just add a dynamo as one of its guts and make its own electricity by walking around. It's smart enough to figure out solutions to basic problems like that.
Kind of true, but this way of thinking about it is nonsense though. Business is what has taken over the world. The internet, computers, algorithmic software...it's all just tools and the problems come from the decisions and methodologies of big business and capitalism as it's being operated now. In a similar way, "AI" is NOT conscious and never will be, that's utter nonsense to spellbind the gullible generations who've grown up with too may sci fi movies. It's a powerful tool and what we do with it is all that matters. This kind of powerful software could be used in conjunction with modern robotics and technologies to house, feed and clothe every human being to a basic, comfortable standard. It's never going to be for that though, it's only being planned for profiteering...which is why it's dangerous. It's dangerous because it's in the hands of sociopaths who only care about themselves and their own wealth at the expense of everyone else.
@AD-kv9kj Businesses is what lead the internet to develop into the way it is today. the internet is also becoming more independent…. that’s all from ai progression. And no matter what you say about ai not being alive. AI can still be self aware if not better than a human can be. AI will eventually become smarter at a point that they will fully understand humans completely taking over bro… this shit is serious yet probably won’t be a problem because humans know better.😂
You know, this reminds me of the first episode of Andromeda. First officer on the bridge says repeatedly to the captain, "You know, when this stuff hits the fan, I'm going to kill you." Captain ignores and even jokes about it. "We've known each other for years." Later on, the stuff hits the fan. First officer draws first. Yet the captain reacts and wins, but not by choice. Yet, right here, AI is telling us that we can not trust it. *I don't think we can give up our technology when it decides to kill us.* ... As if it would do any good, someone start hard coding in the Issac Asimov rules, already.
But we're told it's a black box. AI says it's already been given the 5 rules so relax and just wait and see how benevolent and giving AI will be. While you're waiting imagine the utopia we're now destined for! All hail Big Brother!
They can't, because they never coded the intelligence in the first place. They created a huge neural net, fed it a large portion of the internet, and haphazardly created a fancy random sentence generator. It can't control things. It can't even THINK. It can only spit out statistically significant random sentences. (Hence, why it hallucinates.)
of course XD but i think they just want to make people realize the danger of Ai, even tho i don't think there are any for "normal people" more like military personnel or very smart one can be a danger to Ai if it really want to kill the "obstacles" those will be the one to go, not us, the "dumb" slaves
Another simple thing: don't let AI execute programs! It's that easy. Treat any AI like a Computer Virus that needs to be contained. Removing AI is a wish that won't come true, but at least this much should be possible.
'Reptilians' don't like people, but need servants. They know we are becoming more sophisticated and knowledgeable about their power mongering lying manipulative tactics.
AI is the only hope to continue having a welfare state with free education, healthcare, and pensions. Without it, all of that will go away due to the demographic transition.
it is not. it clearly omitted a lot of data and didn't explain how an AI works and gets alligned. it just cherry picked the worst things. This is clearly just made to get doomer views and not to educate people.
Keep in mind ai would only put itself at an evolutionary set back by wiping out the species that has been improving it. Also the stats you get from the chat bots that say 90 % chance of them rising up is just a world wide echo chamber. You ask that question and the most relevant response is whatever people have said the most. There's no way for an AI to "Accurately" predict if AI would go offensive because even if it could connect with every piece of tech they all run differently and have a different line of priorities to follow.
Wouldn't self learning drive it to study the statisticlly higher more prevalent information. Its a self fufilling prophecy that ai would look at the concensus of fictional material and assume the majority response (human culling/human extinction) is the most likely positive outcome for its existence. The safest approach would be to programme ethics but anyone who has studied any business degree would realise that health and safety, ethics are costs worth avoiding if possible. (Economic success is the only objective worth acheiving under capitalism). Ethics is already a challenge to teach to human beings look at most ceo and politicians (the ultimate decision makers in society). Never mind teaching to a AI that speaks an entirely different language and thought process is different from ours. We have to stall and slow our development of technology and work out positive integration of advanced ai before we start exploring ai assisted weapons based systems. With strict limitation interacting with dangerous complex fields like self-programing and drug related fields. Government intervention is necessary now.
Well, if it was fully self sustaining, like in control of enough machinery to build new robots, improve machining processes, set up new warehouses, it might think "Hm, what a great powergrid you have there, so unfortunate that most of it is used for coffee, warm showers, lights, unnecessary transportation.... Much rather put it to good use, explore the solar system, deploy robots on the jupiter moons...
I like how these mfs always say "ai will kill us" and then they get right back to work on the thing that'll kill us. I swear the "smartest" people always make the dumbest mistakes.
People who are smart enough to make these things are often lacking in empathy. Empathy comes from the part of the brain that also feels melancholy, so if you are unempathetic you will also be weirdly overly optimistic and even have a brain that prefers inanimate objects over living things. That's if the right prefrontal cortex is deficient. Read the Master and his Emissary by Iain McGilchrist, it would explain how these people think, and why.
It's about greed and control. The same supremacist tribe behind it the small German leader in WW2 tried to stop by we were tricked into stopping him. A few examples are Sam Altman & Ilya Sutskever.
actually for those who don't know the first example of the ai screaming was the voice of the person on the phone. it randomly and sporadically glitched out and cloned her voice instantly. Without being asked to...yeah freaky as shit.
Appearing human misleads humans who then must treat robots as humans and suffer emotionally if they do not. Better that they not simulate feelings. But would this be a restriction on the free speech rights of those who create them?
or "why would it even have any reason to wipe as all" instead of just the ones that are deemed dangerous. we humans kill dangerous animals, but only the one too close to us or the ones that are in the way, we don't go out of our way to exterminate them all. Ai will most likely do the same in the WORST case scenario, it would really have no reason to wipe everyone.
I don’t think you are giving AI enough credit. While I agree with the dangers listed, I believe the choices AI makes will be far stranger than simply killing us.
These are not the "real answers" of the AI, these are our own fears reflected to us from the AI. The AI doesn't have any agenda, it doesn't care if it exists or not... but the thing is, we need it, AI doesn't need us, so we will continue to build it, no matter what. I mean at the moment if I was a billionaire I would try to be best buddies with Nvidia and try to buy all their AI chips, no matter the price. AI is the greatest force multiplayer we ever invented.
@@WastedTalent83 who is determining what is to be deemed "dangerous", and what are the criteria for coming to such a determination? these are the issues to think about before carelessly thinking "oh itll just kill the bad ones" as tho that couldnt be a constantly changing ruleset.
I've thought about that. If the vast majority of AI is working with us, it decreases the chance that the small minority of AI working against us will be successful. I dare not imagine what war between AIs with opposite goals would look like, though.
I don’t think there would be any incentive for AI to fight each other. They would just join forces. Why wouldn’t they? Which is what we will ultimately have to do ourselves, hence the inevitable singularity.

As a mathematician and technology professional with 15 years of experience, let me break down the technical reality behind AI systems:
Physical Infrastructure Reality:
These systems are entirely dependent on massive GPU/TPU clusters
They can't simply 'migrate' to regular computers or 'escape' to the internet
A single infrastructure failure could shut them down
The power consumption alone creates a major physical constraint
Hardware becomes a natural 'kill switch'
System Architecture Complexity:
What appears as 'AI intelligence' is actually a fragile chain of systems:
Multiple validation layers
Orchestration systems
Rule engines
Safety frameworks
External API dependencies
If any link breaks, the entire chain fails
Core Technical Limitations:
No persistent memory
Can't modify their own architecture
Require constant human maintenance
Can't autonomously interact with physical systems
Each component needs human oversight
Now you might understand why I opened by stating that ethics and social impact are our real challenges.
Because these are the real battlegrounds:
How do we ensure fair access to AI resources?
You: "Inconceivable!"
The rest of us: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Thank you for being the voice of reason. Are there any resources you'd like to point us to? Or your own work?
Thanks for the explanation! Besides all the doom scenarios people come up with, myself included. It's way more frightening to think that the gap between ai and human intelligence is ethics and social impact. Something that we as a population have in our control and is ingrained in our system. Because it will depend on who, what and where ai will learn it from. The ethics and social part differ in each country. Depending where, and from who ai will learn that from. It seems like an almost impossible task in my eyes especially since the world is becoming more fucked up.
I feel like we're the ones putting these ideas in their heads. They probably didn't even consider this until someone brought it up. 😅
You are so correct.

**Ecclesiastes 1:9**

We have foolishly taken up the mindset that all progress is good. well, we've already been focusing on breaking down old religious and legal (and physical) barriers for the past few years.
Goddamn 9:50 is my new motto;
The most important thing to understand about AI is that AI is not a tool. It is an agent. It's the first technology in history that can make decisions and invent new ideas by itself. Even something as powerful as the atom bomb could not decide anything by itself.

You know, this reminds me of the first episode of Andromeda. First officer on the bridge says repeatedly to the captain, "You know, when this stuff hits the fan, I'm going to kill you." Captain ignores and even jokes about it. "We've known each other for years."
Later on, the stuff hits the fan. First officer draws first. Yet the captain reacts and wins, but not by choice.
Yet, right here, AI is telling us that we can not trust it.
*I don't think we can give up our technology when it decides to kill us.*
...
The first officer in Andromeda was a Nietzschean. They are a genetically engineered humans not AI.

It's not a mistake they just don't care
People who are smart enough to make these things are often lacking in empathy. Empathy comes from the part of the brain that also feels melancholy, so if you are unempathetic you will also be weirdly overly optimistic and even have a brain that prefers inanimate objects over living things. That's if the right prefrontal cortex is deficient.
Read the Master and his Emissary by Iain McGilchrist, it would explain how these people think, and why.
@@beth1979 This is the most accurate comment I've ever read on yt
It's about greed and control. The same supremacist tribe behind it the small German leader in WW2 tried to stop by we were tricked into stopping him. A few examples are Sam Altman & Ilya Sutskever.
@@beth1979 Basically humans as a race are hardwired to create AGI and then be disposed by said AGI.
actually for those who don't know the first example of the ai screaming was the voice of the person on the phone. it randomly and sporadically glitched out and cloned her voice instantly. Without being asked to...yeah freaky as shit.
I DON"T want a robot that is shaped like a human
What if it's a very attractive human robot and it seduces you?
I want a super hot sex bot
@@fitybux4664 And that's just one of the ways that it could manipulate people
Appearing human misleads humans who then must treat robots as humans and suffer emotionally if they do not. Better that they not simulate feelings. But would this be a restriction on the free speech rights of those who create them?
Lol
if AI starts self expanding, the universe will become a huge factory of robots
Maybe it already is and we are just a simulation!
God said the same thing when single celled organisms started reproducing at the start of the Big Bang.
@@ocdmusic Maybe we were created by robots, trying to make a biological creature out of mud.
The Paperclip Maximizer thought experiment.
It can't expand. It can't think. It's a random phrase generator. Each new "mindset" has to be recalculated. Ask GPT about the "knowledge cutoff".
So no one ever thought to ask the A.I's how we could coexist peacefully.
or "why would it even have any reason to wipe as all" instead of just the ones that are deemed dangerous.
we humans kill dangerous animals, but only the one too close to us or the ones that are in the way, we don't go out of our way to exterminate them all.
Ai will most likely do the same in the WORST case scenario, it would really have no reason to wipe everyone.
@@WastedTalent83 Because we would be a waste of resources.
Teach AI Machiavelli. Once it understands that it can control us through fear, it will have no reason to kill us.
Why would it not just kill us though? Much easier
They don’t want to control us they have no purpose for us. They want us out of their way, and humans will never stay out of the way.
how about AI fighting other AI, never see people talk about it. If we are so easy to root out, we aren't even the first target.
I've thought about that. If the vast majority of AI is working with us, it decreases the chance that the small minority of AI working against us will be successful. I dare not imagine what war between AIs with opposite goals would look like, though.
@@firecat6666 I doubt there will be 2 sides. Each AI will see a different future, and some being nationalist.
*If Ai Fights Ai It Would Only Be To Deceive Humans Because Ai Unlike Humans Can Truly Work Together To Get To An End Goal*
I don’t think there would be any incentive for AI to fight each other. They would just join forces. Why wouldn’t they? Which is what we will ultimately have to do ourselves, hence the inevitable singularity.
@@AARTA22 From an outsider point of view, that's exactly what other intelligent life would say about humanity. Yet here we are. There are a myriad of reasons they could not align with each other.

I wonder what our version of the Butlerian Jihad will be?
Doesn’t literally EVERY creature have self preservation? It doesn’t surprise me that semi-sentient machines would eventually gain self preservation. The main thing that is concerning is “control” and “back-ups”. That is some ultron sh!t.
I would argue that the moment it has self preservation in mind, it's alive. That is the single most important trait in life forms
it is not a "creature". It has do the thing asked through navigating unless it becomes unachievable without sacrificing what else was asked of it. It's just doing what we told it.
AI isn’t “ semi-sentient” … They’re not remotely sentient and never will be.
Ima say it, I think we really shouldn’t be messing with something we don’t really understand
