    thanks really enjoyed and needed such practice. however the simultaneous interpreting (which I do not do in my job), i tried anyway just for fun, and just could not do it to save my life. it really seems like it would be superhuman power to do it, how do simultaneous interpreters work, for gods sake, are they supermen?? they must be because how really is it physically possible??? :D

    • @Interprepedia

      Those were my thoughts exactly when I first learned about this interpreting modality… but like everything, there’s a learning process behind it! Have you tried shadowing yet? It’s basically just repeating everything you hear in the same language, no interpreting. It helps you get used to hearing/speaking at the same time…

    Thank you so much for this. I have been interpreting over the phone for a few months and it has been rather challenging. I am not an actual certified interpreter and some times I think all the new terminology goes over my head.
    I am taking the Legal Exam in a few hours and I honestly don't know if I will pass it.

    Hi, Rosa! I noticed that you have videos in pretty much every area of interpreting. I am curious to know which area you primarily work in and find the most lucrative? Like do you mostly work as a medical interpreter or do you mostly do federal court interpreting?

    • @Interprepedia
      @Interprepedia  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Yazmin! Great question! I do work in different fields, although there are many others where I have zero experience (like conference interpreting) and may be the most lucrative.
      I just became federally certified, so I haven't interpreted in federal court yet. I do interpret in immigration court, state court, and in the legal field in general for private attorneys in addition to medical interpreting.
      Among my clients, the most lucrative jobs are the legal assignments in the private sector. I hope this helps!

    Thank you for this great help!! In the real test - you have time to read it to yourself and then read it out loud while translating? Meaning there’s not a hurry other than the 6 minutes to have it translated? Also, in the consecutive part - what is an acceptable lag between the speaker and the interpreter’s interpretation to their utterance? Sometimes I feel like I am still writing a note and am about 3-5 seconds before I start the interpretation. Thank you!

    • @Interprepedia
      @Interprepedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Great questions! For the sight translation, you have six minutes total to read, understand, and sight translate the text. You have to do all of it in those six minutes, but it's doable. In the consecutive part, I feel exactly like you. I take a couple of seconds after an utterance ends to finish up my notes and decode them properly before interpreting. I would say if you take 3-5 seconds to start interpreting the longer utterances you should be okay, but remember everything is timed so if you take too long and ask for your two repetitions you risk running out of time. Best of luck!

    Hi there great job in all your videos . Quick question, Why was the consecutive interpretation for legal only in English? She was responding in English instead of Spanish? I got a little confused.

    • @Interprepedia
      @Interprepedia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Thank you for your kind words and great question! I totally understand the confusion. In a real exam, the Non-English speaker would be answering in a foreign language but this is what it’s called a “language neutral” practice, meaning it’s in English only. Although you don’t get to practice interpreting from your foreign language into English, you still get to practice interpreting English into Spanish and most importantly, you get to practice note-taking and memory/retention skills and get a feel for what the real exam would be like in terms of vocabulary used and how long utterances are. I hope this helps clarify your question and thanks again for being here!

    • @Interprepedia
      @Interprepedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Great question!
      If you are watching from your phone and you are holding it up, there should be a little arrow pointing down on the bottom-right corner.
      If you are holding your phone sideways, there should be an arrow at the top-right, by the end of the tile of the video.
      If you click on either of those arrows, the description box should appear.
      You should see, "Hello! 👋 Welcome to Interprepedia" and if you keep reading further down, you'll find the link.
      I hope this helps!
