If you're preparing for CCHI certification, I recommend focusing on medical terminology, ethics & standards of practice (study the codes of ethics and interpreter protocols to ensure you understand professional expectations), and interpreting skills. Taking a medical interpreting training of at least 40 hours is a mandatory prerequisite, so your prep course should be able to provide you all of this. Great question! The NBCMI is attainable from Europe since you can take all tests online. CCHI does not offer the option to take the oral exam online. I can't answer if these are valid or recognized in Europe as I don't work on that continent, so I've never done any research in that regard.

@@beingazoologist2558 You mean a communication between a veterinarian and a pet's owner, who is usually a layman, when it comes to medical terminology? There is no need for such "translation", because they usually speak the same language. The owner can just ask for a clarification.

However I know many of friends who are serving as translators and interpreter online for US insurance companies for non native and non English speaking people. I am searching for such opportunities.

@ For non - native people trying to get something done in a foreign country, there are so - called assisting interpreters, who follow them everywhere (well, maybe the toilet being the only exception) like shadows and help them express their thoughts in a foreign language. This is quite an exhausting job, though. To deal with things like the ones you described, there can be some ih - house interpreters, cooperating with various offices. However, I can take a wild guess that most of them are working on the basis of a contract of mandate. Out of my own experience I can tell you that the salary is rather paltry in this case.

It's never too late! One of the beauties about being a freelancer or independent contractor is being able to choose the type of work you are willing to accept!

Gracias por tu mensaje. 😊 Aunque por falta de tiempo no puedo ayudarte directamente a practicar inglés, te comparto algunas recomendaciones que me funcionaron: busca oportunidades para hablar con personas que no hablen español o que lo hablen muy poco, mira series con subtítulos en inglés, lee sobre temas que te interesen, escucha canciones en inglés e intenta descifrar la letra, y lee todo lo que te guste. Con práctica constante, ¡seguro lo logras! 💪✨

Great question! Given that your language of expertise is Arabic, as far as I know your only option at the moment would be CCHI as the NBCMI does not offer a full certification for Arabic interpreters.

Zoom ha sido la más popular, pero también he trabajado con Webex, Teams, Google Meet, Doxy y otras plataformas privadas de proveedores de servicios lingüísticos.
