First, Himmler - he is unworthy of his name.
Second, Himmler is dead since spring 1945 Ante Christum Natum. Suizid by poisoning himself with KCN. Buried in a unknown place in a forest near Lueneburg/Germany.

In all of the clips of "The Man in the High Castle" that I've watched, one thing stands out to me: Anyone who does the Nazi salute does it perfectly. Their arms are straight and held at the right angle while the person doing the salute stands straight and tall. Even the children do it perfectly. @user-ym6ew6lt2p This is what people don't realize. It's difficult to step outside of the ideas and things that have shaped and influenced us. Capitalism has worked for so long, and for all people alive in North America today, for all of our lives. In John Smith's world, Capitalism had failed and was not redeemed since the Great Depression did not end until Nazi Germany won WW2. Humans have a psychological tendency to rally around the victors. It is only a minority that does not do this. The only parallel that I can think of in history right away are the Ridda Wars when Islam first swept over the Middle East, where the Arab tribes rebelled. After a generation or two, this kind of rebellion ceases to exist, because all of the young who were born into the "new normal" have already been normalized to the new society, as is the case of when this series takes place. It doesn't even take this long for people to become institutionalized to the point of normalcy, either.

The problem was that they changed writers after season 2. The first two seasons were on point. The last two, I felt something was off even though I really liked the whole series as a whole. One part I thought was off and was poor writing was the scene where the two men kissed in public in the restaurant in Denver. That is a very anachronistic, 2020-ish contemporary way of thinking, shoehorned into the show. The writer of that scene obviously did not stop to think about how conservative not only Nazi Germany would've still been, but how conservative US society still would've been even in the neutral zone considering there would've been no counterculture in the US. I grew up as a kid in the 80's in California, and not once did I ever see gay men kiss in public then. It's almost like whoever wrote that scene was 22 years old and never studied history.

    • @Peter-bx7ip

@@lonewolf333 neutral zone of alternate history is not a 1:1 analog of our past timeline, but I see your point. Regardless, they lived a "live and let live" life, hence the kissing. Yeah, it was risky. Attitudes would be all over the place in a society like that, especially with the semi-lawlessness of the neutral zone.
Also, the show would have been better fleshed out had it gone five seasons like originally intended and not cancelled before writing on season 4 commenced..

Once the occupation started the term Nazi was not used and people knew the proper term very quickly, National Socialist. "Nazi" was basically a shortened title for members of the NationalSozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei.
It was not necessarily said as a slur or insult as it was simply used to refer to a party member (which is understandable considering how long the word was)
As the war went on, however, the term "Nazi" was used by enemies of the Reich as a derogatory term to refer to a German of that time.

The use of the Reichsmarshall title is curious. Hermann Georing was not one who was willing to share prestige. It would have made greater sense in the historical context for John Smith to have the title of Reichskommissar, Reichsprotektor or Reichsminister. Reichsmarshall was sole reserved for the Chief of the Luftwaffe, and was created to elevate Goering above the rank of Field Marshall in the military hierarchy.

There would be no North Korea or Taiwan in this world. Korea was only divided since the USSR invaded Korea when they declared war against Japan on August 8, 1945, this was per their arrangement with FDR that they would go to war with Japan 90 days after the fall of Germany. They had occupied a portion of Korea when Japan unconditionally surrendered on August 15, 1945, and still had around 750.000 troops there which the USA quickly rushed in to accept their surrender. In this universe, Germany never was defeated, and the USSR never invaded Korea, thus it is united, but under Japanese rule, they annexed the Korean Peninsula in 1910. Japan controlled Taiwan (then called Formosa) since 1895 as that was their spoils of war, the Sino-Japanese War 1894-95.
