Little extra note: sterilising the jars with heat also means there's less of a shock to the glass when the jam goes in, if you put hot jam into cold jars they can crack.
So, my family and I went strawberry picking today (we're in South Africa), and came home with tons on juicy strawberries and you guessed it, I made strawberry jam for the first time today, using this easy recipe. My kids aren't too fond of jam but tasted some of it and want more!! So, of course I'm hiding it because it's just sooooooooo good! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
It looks like a simple recipe. Just a couple of suggestions for those that might read…I use a potato peeler to extract the stems so no waste like you get when you cut them off. Just slide tip if peeler under the stem and pull it out. Super simple. Also any canned knows to have a funnel to pour the ham into the jars. A canning funnel is a must. I can wait to make my jam today! Thanks for the recipe!
@@JoAnn-m5r Yes. There is a website for canning times and methods. Google the National Center for Home Food Preservation website. Used to make my own strawberry jam years ago but need to get some new plants again. Have plum, apple, and cherry trees that I do things with though. Thanks for reminding me about strawberry jam - and I like it fairly smooth (I'm with your kids on this preference)!
I have a strawberry jam jar made in 1964 never opened in our basement from my grandparents. My parents and myself never opened it. My husband will this week. Multigenerational homes magic ❤
This is my favorite jam recipe. I use it for strawberries, blueberries, peaches and raspberries. It is just the best, easiest recipe. However, I have never had my jam done in 15 minutes (I wish! lol). Mine always takes about 30-40 minutes to reach the right consistency. But boy, is this easy and good!!
I'm making strawberry jam right now for a toaster strudel recipe I'm making. I didn't even think about doing this with blueberries! I know a cheesecake recipe for that 🥰
@@normn2915from my limited experience with peaches, blackberries, and blueberries, yes. I like to mash my berries first with the sugar since they are still while. Then I add them to the heat and let them cook down
I love that you told us how to sterilize the jars as well, so many people skip over that part! I make strawberry jam every year, super excited to make it again this summer!! Update: Finally got the stuff for it so I'm canning my strawberry jam for the first time this week, super excited! Thanks for the recipe and tips!
how long do they last before getting rotten? I was gifted couple of newly made jars and they got bad in less than two months even though I had put them in the fridge!
I jut made it today! My strawberry jam turns out delicious! By the way it took me 45 minutes to cook it not 15 minutes. Thank you so much John! You are amazing!
As a young chef I ran out of jelly for my lunch and I absolutely love the jam! I love how it’s so quick and easy to make, and yet even my mom who is a health coach and doesn’t like things that are really sweet and she loved it! Thanks
Second year doing your recipe! Last year, started making jams in April/May, but this year could not resist the first strawberries at the market, so today, first batch! The best and easiest homemade strawberry jam ever!
This makes such delicious jam!!! Thank you so much for sharing. When I made it, I halved the amount of sugar and added some flavored honey. Used the same technique and it was amazing.
Oh my Goodness! "Don't Lallygag" !! I started to cry as that immediately sounded like me mum. Not often you hear that word in the States and I love that it is still in use. Your kitchen is brilliant and I am happy for you that it is finished.
I will definitely be using this more often. This was my first time making a jam and it was supper simple and easy. Hopefully I can keep learning and get better in the future.
Going to make this today because I got fresh strawberries from the stand where they were just picked!!! Can't wait to make this, first time ever trying, cross your fingers!!!!!🤞🤞 You can uncross fingers now!!!! OMG, so easy and delicious!!! 👏👏😀 Thank you Jon, again.
If anyone is thinking about making this, do it!!!! It’s soooooooo good. Not sure I’ll be able to go back to regular jam after this. I added a splash of orange juice in mine
John, your Strawberry Jam has inspired me to start making Jams/Jellies/Preserves recipes so i can start selling them. I might use this recipe to make Blue Strawberry jam. Thanks for the idea
I absolutely love this recipe, it's the first jam I've ever made and I'll definitely be making it again. I used pineberries since they're so close to strawberries and since I'm a major fan of sweetness and the pineberries aren't as sweet as strawberries I added just a little more sugar and it was perfect! So glad I found this video!
Hi John🙂 I also made my strawberry jam and many other fruits, too 😊. I like it with a little bit of chunks, but sometimes I use an immersion blender and it works fine, too.👌 Your jam looks perfect and so yummy...mmmhh.👌😋😋😋😋😋 Bravo John and have a nice day🙂. Here in Italy it's 9:20 pm. ☺
I once had homemade apple-elderflower jam from an old lady in germany. It is delicious and it kinda got moved to the back of the frigde where i forgot about the last bit in the jar, and a year later it was still good. That truly amazed me

It’s happened to me with boiling milk so now I never leave anything boiling unsupervised… not even for a sec for the same exact reason the mess is HORRIBLE 😭😭😭😭
My absolute favourite jam on the planet is my mother’s strawberry freezer jam. Its a no-cook jam & it’s stored in the freezer in containers until you need it! Absolutely AH-MAZING
Hey! You forgot to mention that if folks use a spoon or other utensil to get the jam into the jars that utensil also needs to be sterilized too! Cuz cross contamination isa real thing.
Sooooo easy to make, instead of sugar I use 3 big spoons of honey. Because for me it is to much sugar. But have the same result. Thanks for the receipt
Little extra note: sterilising the jars with heat also means there's less of a shock to the glass when the jam goes in, if you put hot jam into cold jars they can crack.
Would it work if I had the jar in a bowl of hot water
So true
How do you dry the jar before putting jam in?
@@tingFayyyI tip boiling water in them at the end and tip it straight out and they dry in seconds.
My mum used to put a metal spoon in the jar so the hot jam wouldn’t crack the jar, and it actually worked

Where did you get your toaster strudel recipe from?
