  • Aquascape Tutorial: Tabletop Endler Riparium / Aquarium (How To: Step By Step Planted Tank Guide)
    In this video I build a tabletop riparium / aquarium for my endler guppy fry. I've been experimenting with emersed plants recently and had good success so thought I would continue on with trying out different plants and seeing what does and doesn't work.

      Why did you cut the black backing out from the middle rather than moving it up to the edge? This would have stopped you wasting loads!

    fun fact...endlers are not from asia at all and I know nothing 🤣🤣🤣😂👌 (i think the reason I thought they were is because I've seen lots of asian guppy breeding videos and just assumed...never assume people...it will make an ASS of U and ME!...oh well, not to worry)

      I have the same variety of guppy and I know it’s called blue Japan, so maybe that’s why you got confused ! Very nice tank anyways 😁

    Fun fact, endlers and guppies are actually two different fish. They’re just both live bearers and therefore able to cross breed

    • @jobkaashoek
      @jobkaashoek 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If by guppies you mean reticulated (or fancy) guppies, you're right. They can hybridise and produce fertile offspring because their genomes are strikingly similar, meaning that they separated from each other relatively recently. Not all livebearers can hybridise and produce fertile offspring. Only species that are extremely closely related are capable of that. Most endlers sold in the pet store have some fancy guppy blood in them, and many fancy guppies, for example Panda guppies have endler blood in them. I hope I was clear in my elaboration on this topic and that you've learnt something from it!

    MD, I would very much like to see how the tanks progressed through the months from when they were first set up to 2 months afterwards and then now
    Just a small clip with a few of the best tanks,even though all the tanks are mad and would be very difficult to decide which ones are the best ones hahaha
    I don’t usually comment but it’s insane the way your channel has grown, from the first small shed to now practically having a full house for your fish hahaha
    Keep up the great work!

      I thought about the longevity of the tanks, but then I thought that this style of aquarium design doesn't require the tank to run for ever. It's the excitement of the new build, trying out new ideas and seeing how they turn out. The materials are all re-used when the tanks get taken down, so nothing is wasted. I don't think these tanks need to, or are intended to last for ever. That's what I like about these builds.

    Lovely, calming video; I just came home from a hard day's hike in the desert foothills out here in Arizona, so this was the perfect thing to watch. I have a 20-gallon tank I'm setting up (expanding a little 11" cube into bigger surroundings) and this gave me all sorts of ideas about substrates... I've been tempted to try Endlers; my guppies are mostly Platinums and Elephant Ears, but those are really pretty! Thanks for a beautiful video at the end of a good day.

    That palm is a Dypsis lutescens, native to Madagascar. They need a slightly humid substrate. But I'm pretty sure right in the water the roots will rot and it'll die off.
    But I ❤️ your experimental style where everybody can learn from. Thanx SO much !!!
    And btw: You're firing out so many videos, have to take care of all the tanks, which are really nice, all the cutting work... But I'm wondering how you can manage all of it. Are you really sleeping somewhen? Hope you take care of yourself enough! ..And your family! 😉
    In the former version I was mistaken, native to the northern mountains of Mexico are the Chamaedoreae species, I did correct it.

    MD, I really like your videos and to the point I'm ready to redo some of my tanks with live plants and get the more natural look to them. I am curious about the wire you used to hold the plants. Is it an electrical solid core wire with plastic housing like you use to wire houses? Or if you can drop a link of the wire you used or something comparable. Thank you and love the content you put out. I did subscribe and looking forward to seeing more!!

    I think you should get some brushes to use instead of that scaping-spatula. Brushes are a great tool to have when working with dry soil, and it can even be used with sand or gravel under water. It will reduce the risk of damaging the glass. I’ve seen Tanner from Serpadesign use brushes and I just thought I would share it with you! Love your work! Keep it up :)

    I’ve recently started to watch your videos and been inspired and plan on buying my own aquarium possibly either a 30L or 90L. I was wondering if there are any periods during the year when the price of aquariums/equipment are reduced or go on sale? Your videos really encourage me to wanna have a little planted tank with a pair of fish. I’ve began research on a few possibilities but I’m unsure if a 90L would be enough to house either a pair of German Rams or Dwarf Gurami or Apistos... with a bunch of beginner plants and drift wood. Thank you for your beautiful and fantastic videos 🙏🏻

    The fish would spread out and swim a little more with a little gentler flow to the water. Pretty tank.

    HI cool video, am new to the hobby. Can I ask please what do you use to track the state of your tanks? IE water change, ph, ammonia, nitrite, etc do you use an app or spreadsheet
    Thanks

    Your neons would prefer 22 degrees/your room temperature, it’s cardinals that like it warm. Also, I could be wrong, but I don’t think your areca palm will thrive with its roots in water. If you like that shape try another bog plant like a dracanae/dragon tree. Nice tank as always.

    How mad . . . I was thinking about getting some endlers last night and today too and then you do this!!! Good idea with the plants hanging on the back ~ I'm going to try something similar. ;~{}

      Old fish net handles are ready-made plant holders ~ most have a plastic coated wire . . . I have just made one by cutting off the net end and bent it into the right shape for hanging off the edge of the tank for a peace lily I have . . . it looks and works a treat! Just a quicker and easier option if you cannot source that wire that you are using as most of the work is done for you. The handle perfectly holds the plant too and has extra plastic thus protecting the stem of your plant and can be secured with a plastic cable tie if so desired! Thanx MD you have inspired me to do something new and it looks great . . . I will be buying nets by the armful from here on! lol ;~{}
