Just make sure its somewhere where the water temp stays a steady temp a keep near a window not directly in front off to the side so when the sun goes down it isn't a huge change an invest in good bacteria. You can also get solar pumps an bubblers as well for water flow. ♡
It's so much fun to have these, and some with little waterfalls! It's easy too- just a little low flow aquarium pump to move the water, very inexpensive! (Less than $20!) Best of luck if you try this! You'll want more than 1, LOL!
It doesn't require a lot of care compared to a lot of other aquatic environments, but don't just assume it's zero maintenance. Make sure it's not directly in the sun for long periods of time because you will get algae growth, maintain temperature, and some movement in the water from a small powerhead would also be a good idea. Wow. You have given me a great tip to use terrestrial plants instead of aquatic ones in my fish tubs / urns. I have always used aquatic plants as I thought the roots of land plants would rot in the water. I am off tomorrow to the plant market to find some of the plants that you used! If it means I can cut down on water changes it will be fantastic.
It's a neat system, but I'd think an airstone (or two, depending on the size) would be pretty good just to aerate the water a bit - especially as the plants are mostly bog/terra-types and not inside. Tho with little livestock it won't be much a problem (unless they breed uncontrollably lol)
Low tech in fishkeeping refers to the equipment used to maintain the ecosystem in the tank. High tech would include things like CO2 injection, sump/canister filters, fertilizers, etc.
A good drill and good diamond head cutter like that will probably put you back $160-$200 at lowes, Kinda expensive but worth having if you're into this hobby enough
