You know what MD? I was thinking, you can do a simple salt water tank, without corals, but with sand and Sea Weed. Not as pretty as a reef based one, but as a bridge between. Well, I think you did one before, silly me.
As someone with chronic health issues I find your content so relaxing and such a great distraction. I reckon I speak for everybody when I say we'd happily even watch a video of you guys feeding the various tanks.

You should make a second channel where the vids are just an hour of footage of a tank close up to fill the screen, with some chill music like you do at the end of each build. Totally would just run that on my TV when doing chores around the house
Like how the hob filter is designed with the lighting placement in mind so you can put the filter on the side of the back instead of the back. Wish more companies does that
at 37:18 that fish is definietely a "Similis" shell dweller (neolamprologus Similis). You can tell because the stripes go past the gill plate onto its forehead. You way want to remove it to prevent crossbredding with the Multis. Similis can also be quite darker than the multis as well.
I like how you make a shell dweller tank and have mostly rock in there. lol Escargot shells from ebay or a providor work a treat and are quite affordable. The more shells the less aggression from the females. Awesome fish. I watch mine for ages all the time. when you were removing the soil from the first plant. i heard my mom say " men are just boys who happen to grow ". I chuckled a little. love this video.
Great tank guys! I got 4 multis in Nov at a local fish auction after wanting them for a while. Absolutely love these fish. They're so cute and those blue eyes😍
When your bonsai grows out you’re going to have a style called “root over rock.” Should be very interesting! & your ability to keep peace lilies alive is amazing lol, they can be sooooo fussy in a pot and you’ve managed to keep them in an aquarium!!! Good work 🪴.
Peace Lilies are great for aquariums, as long as you do not submerge them completely. In my experience, if you submerge them completely, they only last about six months or so. But if at least the top half of the plant are out of the water, they'll pretty much last for years if not decades, they are marsh plants after all. I think it holds true for all marsh plants that grow partially in water in nature. Also, the tank looks amazing. I can't wait to see it when the fish have settled in properly.
It's kind of funny how MD has gone from "my wife doesn't like any of the aquatic plants sticking out above the water, she thinks it looks messy" to "Matt and I want a plant growing out the top of every tank" 😂
Darker ones are male with more distinct lines there’s maybe 3 obvious males in that sale tank ..3 males and maybe 5 or 6 females is good. Looks like you scored 2 big really dark males 😊 I’ve never seen such dark males ever. Looks so great
Turned out amazing MD and Matt makes me miss keeping Shell-dwellers. Keep up the amazing landscaping, love seeing the channel grow along with the size of the studio, crazy you use to do this in a shed.
I've been watching your channel for a couple months now as I have 2 small tanks going and am planning a third 40gal. I've been going back through your old videos for inspiration and just came across the abandoned newt build from almost 4 years ago at the beginning of COVID. I'd love to see a new newt build! The one you did was really pretty and seemed approachable, and I've been wanting fire belly newts for longer than I've wanted fish/shrimp. Plus, it'd be awesome to finally see newts in a build of yours, it was a shame you couldn't find any at the time. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're more available now. Anyway, love the channel, y'all are very relaxing during the dark cold winter, and I find myself entertained and informed in equal measure.
You guys should consider using 1-inch gravel filler, contained by the big rocks, to support the plants and make a substrate for their roots. Also, "Airplants don't look real, anyway" is part of their charm! I have a collection of them, and a guy I know asked, "Are they real?" so I gave one to him. You are funny, but you work well together.
I love shellies! I have a tank for similis that have bred like crazy. Breaking that tank and my others for a long move but can't wait to give them a go again!
Awesome tank! The light an the darker shellys are 2 different species neolamprologus multifasciatus is the lighter of the 2 and neolamprologus similis not a lot off difference but it may upset purists and apparently can generally cause issues when they interbreed! You can also tell them apart from the banding there head one stops before forehead one stops after! Both great fish your might find similis slightly more aggressive!
Great vid, I love Tangs that's all i keep! Normally you put the rocks in first due to the shellies digging, sometimes they can collapse your structure. Can't wait to see the update :)
you definitely already have ideas but a 8ft river tank with a few smaller trout and grow them out in it and they could be kept with sunfish or anything really they are quite chill fish but they like current
Hey MD, love your videos. Been watching for about two years now, and actually, learning what aquascaping is from you is what got me into the hobby. I never miss your videos, but also there are some other really great channels out there. Would love to see you collab with green aqua where you tackle some of the other styles like a brazilian-style scape or those intense landscape IAPLC kind of builds. Just a thought. Keep up the great work! Absolutely love that Matt is a regular now
I love this tank! The Shellies are so cool looking and I love seeing them in the shells. I will definitely have a go at this at some point, it’s nice to have a variety of tank types. 😢Great video, lots of laughs. Thank you.
You should take some shots like one a week or something and see how they scape it over time. Would be fun to see the compilation!!! Lovely tank, works great, the rocks are impressive on their own. I hope you don't scrub algae off the rocks though if there will be any
I dunno why, but I have this irrational hatred for fake plants. They are getting much better at making the fake ones look better, but I just still hate them. Glad you passed them at Ikea. lol I mean fake plants in and out of water.
Are you going to be putting a sponge filter on the intake? You'll need one if you planning on letting them breed. You might also put in some more shells.
Amazing content and so inspiring. You and matt make my day when a nee vid comes out feels like hanging with friends lol you guys are so real and fun great energy!❤
Nice effort there . Great to see you both doing something a little different and with some very unique species . Gotta do a bamboo type tank guys !!!!!
Oh gawd I have Radermachera bushes trees in my actual garden…I’d be very surprised if that works but I’m keen to see. They have obviously stated it’s growth as they can grow up for 6 ft wide and tall. Ok they have which hint of pink largish trumpet like flowers that drop easy but it may not flower indoors as it’s a sun loving plant (I’m in Australia and it can handle 41c heat in my front garden this summer). I keep adding more comments as I watch more video lol
I’ve got new tank that I’ve placed where a giant potted peace lily used to be (it’s out in the sunroom now). I sort of miss having the peace lily in the house but the place it was was the only place that made sense for a fish tank plus it likes the added sun of the sunroom. I’m now thinking of plopping some smaller peace lilies in the tank
Beautiful! Maybe give them more (big) shells. In the wild they live on a thick layer of shells. (At their specific habitat you cant see the bottom of the lake because of the layer of the shells.
I’ve have an avocado growing from one tank, and I went in a really weird fish store where the guy had huge aloe plants growing from his tanks. I’m trying that now.
You have to be careful of heavy rocks in a sheller tank. They suck up n relocate it so much that it can cause some rocks to become unsteady if sand is moved around and underneath which could be a falls risk. I kept Shellie’s yonks ago and they are so much fun. Go to be with all the sand fairly even then in the morning go to say hello and it’s another world..plus when they breed, the first thing you see is these two minuscule lil eyes poking out of a shell. Beautiful lil guys. Infact I’ve been thinking of getting some to set up in my 90 cm x 28 x 30 tall tank that has just had my Sewellia Lineolata breeding colony in (just sold them all, was lucky enough to hav bred a while one). Maybe it’s next inhabitants CAN n WILL be Sweet lil Shellie’s.
Really cool Thank, I have some Experience with shell dwellers en the can get stuck in the really small shell's, I lost a few so i only use the escargot shells now.
That's looking really cool! Much better than y our previous attempt with the shellies, I think the shallowness of this tank really helps. I think I'm gonna give it a try as well if I can find those kind of fish around here and if I can get a good shallow tank, but for now I'm enjoying the new whiptail catfish I just got in for my main tank😄
Babies will often hide in with parent….until a lil bigger. Shelters need bigger ones but those others you have look perfect. Ficus elastics variegated will be great in corner…Strangwly I watched a garden tank scaper on,y just days ago dating how he’s now water-fied that exact plant and also was the first to acclimate a Croton to growing in water. Ofcourse I had to go nbuy a awesome colourful Croton to try in my pea tank 🩵😄
Im going to build a large indoor pond for my snapping turtle once he outgrows his tank. Im going to attempt to grow mangrove trees along the edge. Id love to see you try it first so i know it works 😅.

Hello from us! It’s funny in a good way how you guys are including the behind the scene of content 😂 Love the videos guys keep it up 🫶🏼
Trumpet snails will stimulate your fish and keep you sand clean as well.
I dunno why, but I have this irrational hatred for fake plants. They are getting much better at making the fake ones look better, but I just still hate them. Glad you passed them at Ikea. lol I mean fake plants in and out of water.
My favourite TH-cam channel by far
Are you going to be putting a sponge filter on the intake? You'll need one if you planning on letting them breed. You might also put in some more shells.
Waiting for the monster tank 😍
This channel is going to hit 1 million subscribers before you know it!
perfect video for me today as I'v just brought home some piece Lillys to put in my tank, great content lads
Beautiful tank, as always! Thank you so much for all inspiration you give me
Another gorgeous aquarium!!! I love it!!!😊😊😊
Hey MD, great content as usual. When will you make a tank for paradise fish (macropodus)?
Oh gawd I have Radermachera bushes trees in my actual garden…I’d be very surprised if that works but I’m keen to see. They have obviously stated it’s growth as they can grow up for 6 ft wide and tall. Ok they have which hint of pink largish trumpet like flowers that drop easy but it may not flower indoors as it’s a sun loving plant (I’m in Australia and it can handle 41c heat in my front garden this summer). I keep adding more comments as I watch more video lol
it's pretty easy to start your own mealworm colony... if you dont want to keep buying them for the puffers!
The postman needs his own youtube channel as well!
I’ve have an avocado growing from one tank, and I went in a really weird fish store where the guy had huge aloe plants growing from his tanks. I’m trying that now.
this is the perfect size for where I want to put my first planted tank. hope I can get one shipped to the Isle of Man
Great content guys!! Looking forward to your jelly fish tank Matt! Very exciting stuff!
I feel this tank size would be fantastic for a shallow mangrove and soft coral tank
Yea I like that boys- well done simple and easy x 😊😊
I love the spider part 😂❤
❤it thanks guys from🇦🇺
Im going to build a large indoor pond for my snapping turtle once he outgrows his tank. Im going to attempt to grow mangrove trees along the edge. Id love to see you try it first so i know it works 😅.
Can't wait for that one Matt.
Looking forward to see this tank in a month
