I've had my 2001 996 turbo for 8 yrs now, its a constant delight. I've also added the TechArt Sports exhaust which is really nice, great sound. Fitted 16/24 larger turbos and ECU remap, so around 560 BHP. Prefer the looks of the 996 to the 997 turbo, despite the headlights (which I actually like) Pinky Lai designed the 996 turbo and the 996 and it saved Porsche. All these are set to increase in value as people begin to appreciate the unique and iconic look. Best bang for you $$$$ out there in my opinion. Buy one now before prices increase further, they've gone up around 20% in the last 6 months.
my best friend has a 997 turbo, lovely car and very competent, but the 996 turbo delivers the power in a more visceral manner, and as I said in my previous comment, I prefer the classic look of the 996 turbo, its cleaner and less fussy. Enjoy your car!! I'm in the UK, so we have decent 99 octane fuel!!!
@@lifeofdrive2678 definitely! Your video convinced me to get this exhaust, cant wait to install it! The Techart tips haven't really grown on me though, I might stay with stock tips.
I have this car… in the “mustard version”…. mine has the tame Billy Boat exhaust.. his sounds like “Fabspeed”… love it!!.. had it on my car but the neighbors didn’t care for it…also came close to buying a red one…
Bad ass whip. That's the goal, great video, athanks I needed that. I drive a cl500 amg package with a 5.0 tuned and straight piped, shes Fast gorgeous and fun but jeeezus 996 turbo I'm my car. CONGRATES bro, I'd drive it the same way!
Ironic I looked for both of these cars an 05 was Almost impossible to find with only 1,500 examples world wide, I also looked for a super low mile x50 as well I looked at he 993 too expensive for one particular one I wanted looked at a 997 ehhh i passed as well . The 991 was amazing but then I opted for a 992 turbo s very happy with my choice it’s crazy how much the 996 has gone up in the recent years that sucks for me:( but congrats to the owners they say the 993 was the last real Porsche obviously they have not driven a X50 or Last model years turbo 996 I even while I was in the market for the 996 turbo s I had no idea how low the production was literally and it’s funny because I’m in my G82 M4 competition right now and I saw a 996TS and we had a little fun on the 60 mile drive 18-19 minutes 😂
nice video! i have a 2004 turbo X50 with a fab speed exhaust...sounds very similar!! If you're in the GTA, you should join Porsche True North on FB...lots of great drives happening all the time
had 996tt loved it. Did exhaust clip--- nothing crazy, I did few videos. i just own bmw m4, few bolt-on's it's cool. But my next car will be 997 turbo- I have to wait another year and a half! I CAN't wait ! and that car will be a keeper! cheeers!
Great vid. I have the same car in manual. Your sounds great. I found a Ti x pipe I’m going to try on mine. Made in Taiwan. I can get it with small cats or no cats. You running cats? Thanks.
Awesome Ted! I love having this car in manual, the driving experience is just incredible. Very cool man, let me know how that X Pipe sounds. I'm still running the cats on mine, for now... haha Still deciding what to do next with this, might go for a 600hp turbo upgrades. We will see
I love to see the love for the 996, mine was the best sounding car I'd heard with a Kline but that sounds raunchy! Maybe even better. Tip for the wise. This car absolutely comes alive with a bit of tuning, I've often tuned cars and then fallen out of love and sold them because the modified car is unreliable, expensive and less well rounded to own (clearly I don't learn and still can't resist with the next one). However, the 996 turbo is a car that was just meant to be experienced with over 600hp. You don't have to go wild, but up the boost to 1.2-1.4 bar and get yourself some 997 GT2RS intercoolers to keep that inlet temperature down and not overstress the cooling system. The car just comes alive. The pull now, from 40mph in 6th (because it's no longer trying to avoid boost), to the mid range sledgehammer and the final couple of thousand rpm war cry. It's an emotional experience. P.s. you'll also be needing 997 turbo/ 996.2 GT3 350mm brake upgrade after you run this power. You'll be arriving at a lot more corners, a lot faster than you were!
You will not regret tuning it. Chassis, engine, the whole car feels made for it. It loses nothing over a the standard car, but up the boost and the engine just comes alive. Feels so much more characterful, free revving. Unchained it stops feeling GT cruiser and starts feeling Porsche GT. I only wished I'd done it sooner.
@@hatemsgarage My car still has the standard rev limit so it's only recorded 0.13s overrev (probably me), becomes meaningless if the rev limits have been raised but UK tuners don't tend to do that. It's PLENTY fast with map, manifolds, exhaust & intercoolers. More revs sound fun but the rods and valves are beefier (read heavier) than a gt3. Engine builds are expensive

If buying a car that was already tuned, do you think the DME report becomes useless?
What tuning software do you recommend for a 2002 996 turbo?

What kinda techhart exhaust do you have
I’m in GTA too, I got x50, where did you take your car to pin the coolant

I have the 01 996 turbo with a fab speed exhaust. It drones quite badly at 2500 rpm. How is the drone on the tech art?
I don’t find it too bad, it would be cool to hear them side by side
Not sure what is on mine, as just bought the car, mine also drones like hell at around 2-3k
Gotta love it! @996revival 💯

what wing is on this car?
This is the Porsche Factory Aerokit for the 996 Turbo
This is why I would rather have a manual transmission with a clutch. I hope that Porsche would bring back the Turbo S with a manual
