    You will never get rid of drone with a loud car, it’s just the harsh reality of having no mufflers or no resonators. You will never get loud outside & quiet inside when you replace OEM exhaust components for louder aftermarket components.

    A Helmholtz resonator (J pipe) would definitely fix your drone issue. I just went through this with my car, even did the Vibrant resonators and found the same thing, helped with some rasp issues but did absolutely nothing for the drone. The thing is with the helmholtz you have to get the length just right for maximum effect. There are all sorts of calculations you will find, the problem is there are so many variables they will not give you the ideal length. I found just a 2-3 inch change can make a huge difference.
    I new it would be somewhere between 30 to 48 inches, fortunately my car is a single exhaust and I had plenty of room to add a long J pipe. So I used a slightly narrower pipe with a band clamp so I could experiment with different lengths. It immediately helped but still not enough, I went to extremes and did not notice much difference, then I started doing smaller increments and when I got to around 42 inches it all of a sudden was a night and day difference. I really think this is the way to do it, folks that pick one fixed length right off the bat based off of some arbitrary values is most likely not going to give the best results. However if you get the length right the results are very impressive.
    The problem with your situation is I don't see where you have room . A muffler will certainly work, but will also kill most of the sound you are after. That is what is so great about the Helmholts option, it is very frequency selective, so you can get rid of the drone and still have most of the sound you want. You just need to find the space.

    • @Scoupe400
      @Scoupe400 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This sounds right. It’ll be a frequency related issue, like I’ve posted. Interesting product you’ve found there.

      don't know if you will see this but I just got magnaflow 12468 installed where my resonator was and got a muffler delete adding dual quad 4 inch tips (2.5 inch piping after 3rd cat) and it has hella drone around 1500-2000 rpm whether I'm on the highway or around town. They didn't bend the pipe to go around the gas tank on each side cuz the shop that bends it was closed and I needed the car the next day so it's pretty much straight piping from resonator to bumper (they put the pipe under the gas tank). I'm wondering if the drone would go away if they actually bent the pipe to go around the gas tank on each side or do I need these vibrant resonators?

  • @Scoupe400
    @Scoupe400 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The resonators are designed to eliminate rasp from V6 and V8 engines.
    Inherently they will remove a tiny amount of other sound like volume and drone - but not much, and not their intention.
    A rear muffler is designed to reduce volume.
    The drone can come from anywhere. But ultimately it’s a frequency issue. Anything that you add or omit from the exhaust system, or anything that vibrates, will change your experience. Therefore adding mufflers may change it or mask it: you may only need a small one; alternatively a different size resonator may work, or secondary inline pre-res set. You could even change exhaust length.
    You can chase this for ages ; this is what manufacturers spend ages on developing.
    Get it right and you might have a winner; something sellable. Not everyone wants massively louder & rasp.
