    People confuse me. Cant people understand that although a resonator makes a cars exhaust slightly quieter, it also greatly redueces drone. Everyone is different but man, I could not sit through a droning car on my way to work all day. This is a smart move.

      I got 2 resonators on my ride, and it sounds great.
      The ride already had 1 resonator on it, but muffler fully rusted out at the seams, from 1 end to other end, muffler was removed and tossed out, I had a resonator kicking around extended the pipe on it, welded it on, and installed it, and it sounds great.

    I left the entire exhaust system stock on my 400hp 6.0 V8 and put a Doug's leak proof cutout system just before the mufflers. Sound is like a race car when I want it, then with the flick of a switch it's back to stock. Best of both worlds, I love it, also cheap to buy and install.

    Thanks for the review. About to put the APR EFR Stage 3 turbo kit on my GTI, minus their garbage wastegate and software, and got a little worried when I noticed the DP doesn't have a res. Vibrant 17950 will be the perfect midpipe between the APR Stage 3 DP and the rest of my CircuitWerks v2 TBE! I, too, am getting it based on the recommendations of GTI Jake from the golfmk7 forums. Huge thank you to you!! Bought a catted ARM downpipe mated to OEM resonator and cat back and the drone was awful, borderline Honda style. Just had the Vibrant 17930 (2.5” in/out) installed to replace stock resonator and it’s night and day. DSG farts are more manageable as they were epic loud prior to resonator swap as well. No drone, sounds perfect and stealthy until you get on it. Was about to uninstall downpipe before I stumbled upon this video and review. Thanks for all your efforts!! Subscribed.

      I don't know what car you're treating. If your exhaust comes together into one pipe at any point, then I'd say to start with one and see how it sounds. If you have a V6/V8 with two separate exhaust systems, then you'll need one for each side. Remember: I'm sharing how this affected my 2.0T Volkswagen. You mileage may vary. Good Luck!

    On a 2016 TT, I tried to do this with a 17950 3" resonaator on my unitronic downpipe but there wasn't enough clearance. Too close to the heat shield and drive shaft, unfortunately. @StealthGTI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Logan - Check out my article at stealthgti.com/2018/04/09/vibrant-17950-resonator/. In short, your stock resonator was designed to work with your factory system. A downpipe changes the resonance, which drives a need for a different resonator. As a result, you'll get better results by replacing the stock resonator for one designed to work with your new frequencies. See the article for more details. Thanks for visiting! -Scott

      I might, assuming that you have dual exhausts. I went through a series of experiments that has brought me back to more exhaust components to reduce the noise. I got tired of the noise REALLY fast. It turns out that the downpipe is the bulk of restriction. If I was tuning today, I'd leave the exhaust alone. It's very expensive to fix a mistake there. HAHA! Perhaps the writer thought the ultra quiet series is just too expensive to justify the gains

    Is drone noticeable to the people outside the vehicle or is it mainly an interior issue? I just got a free flowing exhaust installed on my car and from the revs I heard at the shop it sounded great... however there is a lot of interior drone pretty much from everything below 4k rpm. It's strange because when I have it at WOT at high rpms it sounds phenomenal and there is no drone at all. I am planning on throwing two vibrants on my system because it is a dual setup but trying to decide which ones.. don't want to go too long and mute my exhaust and don't want to go to short and do nothing.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MY drone was subtle outside of the car. Plus, it was only in the narrow bandwidth of 2800-3300 rpm. So, everything was good outside of that area. To be honest, it's all a crap-shoot... or an experiment, depending on how you want to label it. The engineers who designed our factory exhausts are pretty smart. Everything we do to alter the tone deviates from their design and requires new experimentation. Good Luck!

    Clarification for the masses, on how to tune the exhaust:
    1) muffler…straight through designs for improved flow and performance.
    The more sound deadening material (which almost always means a large number overall case and package), the smoother and quieter the exhaust can be. Tune VOLUME output with muffler selection.
    2) Tubing diameter: larger = higher flow and a deeper note, but with a very real law of diminishing returns. Bigger is not always better here.
    3) Resonator: cancels unwanted sound frequencies that cause “drone” under part throttle and off throttle situations.
    4-cylinder and V8 motors are notorious for this issue, which is why they tend to sound terrible when folks delete the factory resonator(s).
    4) A well-tuned exhaust will sound smooth and civil when cruising, so as not to punish the passengers and alert cops/neighbors, but STILL sound strong and deep under WOT loads (wide open throttle, loaded acceleration).
    I’ve done it across MANY vehicles over the last 22 years. Attention to detail and basic physics. 😎 🍻
    GTI Jake published a great article on this subject (he’s the chief fabricator for the MQB community, based out of NC). I would link it here, but the YT bots would delete the link and flag me for “advertising”. 🙄
    Hope this helps the viewers and readers. 👍

    Hey man. My civic 8th is on a full exhaust system. It's loud but just okay -- on the outside. But inside the cabin, the drone is insanely loud it literally hurts my ears. I was recommended to place another resonator (a total of two resonators would be installed then).
    My concern is, by having 2 resonators would it affect the setup of my full exhaust? Would it be significantly quieter? And Most importantly, would it guarantee to reduce (or eliminate) the drone?
    If this helps, My current resonator is 22". I'm not yet sure what size would be placed for the second resonator

    • @StealthGTI

      I would imagine that replacing your current resonator with one that's tuned for your car might work better than adding another one. I recommended contacting Jake Baun via his channel (Baun Performance) or his FB page. Thanks for visiting.

    So I have a 19’ Challenger SXT with Flowmaster 10s and resonator deletes, if I put vibrant resonators on it, will it relieve some of that drone as well? It also gets kind of annoying at certain rpms as well inside the car.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think a resonator would help. But it would have to be the right one. I chose the Vibrant, and a specific one at that, because of testimony on how it performs on other cars just like mine. I'd do some searching on Dodge/Mopar forums to see how others are combatting drone on their Challengers. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that V6s have or need a different solution than V8s. Yesterday had a 3.5 CTS catted downpipe installed on my S3, and stage 2 Uni ecu/tcu. I love the power! Problem I have is that prior to stage 2 I had factory resonator delete - it sounded amazing! Now with stage 2, and catted down pipe and res delete, the exhaust sounds ricey! Dare I say, it sounds like I’m driving a Civic with an eBay turbo kit lol... there’s not really any drone, and I coded off my soundaktor... but exhaust sounds raspy and ricey when I get on the pedal. Even the slightest. You think if I put the stock res back on I’ll be okay? The other option is going with an inexpensive resonated catback system from CTS or MBRP.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stock resonator is tuned for the resonance of the stock system. Once you start changing components, then you need to find a different resonator to compensate for the change. Good Luck!

    Thank you for this informative video! I have a stock 2004 Nissan Armada which has a V8 and 3 inch pipe. I have owned it since new and love the car but hate the drone that I hear inside the cabin at typical cruising speeds. My desire it to eliminate this drone and hope to make this car as quiet as possible. Would this resonator do that for me or do I still need to dig deeper? I am trying to find a relatively simple and cost effective solution.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan - I'm not certain. Is your system stock? My GTI's exhaust is modified with an aftermarket downpipe. Therefore, I had already deviated from the sound management that engineers had designed. This resonator has been tried and tested in my application and proven to be effective. If your Armada is stock, it's tough to say how this resonator will affect your sound. Perhaps someone in a Nissan forum has tested something they know to be effective? If you want to experiment, the Vibrant resonator is an inexpensive way to get started. But I'd search for things known to work with your application. Good Luck! -Scott

Also look into changing your header for a long tube for maximum torque and best acceleration and change that pipe from the header clear back to either 2.5 inch or 3 inch. You want best exhaust flow to reach all that horsepower that little engine has to offer. If you even have the car still... That is.
