That mic stand broke early in their career and Freddie liked it so well he done it for the rest of his career it was a Freddie Mercury trademark

This is the story as to why Freddie's practically naked in this show. Queen did two shows in this venue and both were being videoed by a company who intended to make a full length concert video of the show for commercial purposes. Now here's where a problem developed. The director of the video was used to bands doing exactly the same thing, down to every note and body movement, in every single show, and assumed Queen was like the rest of them. But Queen wasn't your average band. They did play a set list, yes, but that was the only given, everything else was improvised in small ways, depending on how Freddie or the others felt on any given night. The video director wanted the band to be sure to dress exactly the same each night because the director would video both nights and pick the bits he liked the best from both of them. Freddie tried to tell the director they didn't do their shows exactly the same, but the director was adamant they should. Freddie got pissed and decided to show them - the first night he was dressed in whatever outfit he usually wore, but on the second night, this one you just saw, he decided to show up stripped, making sure the director couldn't start picking and choosing from each show. ( nobody tells Freddie, the master showman, how and what he will do and when he'll do it) I got this story from some interview or other Brian May did, so, unless I got some of the details wrong, its pretty much the way it all went down. .
You got it right. Brian also said he had never seen Freddie so pissed, especially since they were also instructing the security to try and keep the audience to stay in their seats etc (as per Roger’s commentary during a review of concert)
@@trego5509 That's right! I'd forgotten that part! - Know what makes me wonder about the entertainment business? Its how people in the media, or the film producers or the like never seem to bother learning about the entertainers first before they impose their will or their opinion on them. Seems to me half of what you read is untrue and the other half are downright lies. 😉 Seriously, I only ever believe anything about anybody, whether it be Queen or whoever, is if I hear it from the source. Its so nice that Brian and Roger are so forthcoming with information, isn't it.

AAAAHHHH - Freddie in short shorts!! Yahoo! Typically Freddie will be barely dressed by the end of a concert. And typically Queen ends their concerts with WE WILL ROCK YOU & WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. Definitely do SOMEBODY TO LOVE from this same concert!! Thanks for the Queen reactions! Early in Queen’s career Freddie had trouble with the mike stand, it broke, Freddie continued and the rest is legendary history!! The half mike is a signature look!!

Nice reaction. Live at Montreal 1981, I think you would like Somebody To Love, Dragon Attack, Save Me amongst many other performances. Another One Bites the Dust in Montreal has quite the strut going on and a great vocal.

Uk fan 🇬🇧 if your reacting to queen you must do “somebody to love” Montreal 1981 to appreciate just how good they must have been live and yes you know the song and after that do “white queen” Hammersmith Apollo (its early queen and a little different but the middle instrumental is a joke and ridiculously good.
