Andy is a more capable final character than most these adults. That little boy was with the smoke.
Also that scene of Andy crying in the psych ward always breaks my heart the acting is so good.

    Trivias-
1.Don Mancini was inspired of the story Child's Play with the Cabbage Patch Kids Craze of the 1980's. He thought it would be good to write a satire about the marketing done to drive kids mad for these dolls.
2.Chucky's full name was a combination of three well known murderers. Charles Lee Ray. It was created from Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray.
3.The man playing Dr Ardmore is Jack Colvin, maybe one of the best underrated actors from the 70s ,he was known for playing Mr Mcgee in The Incredible Hulk who always chased Banner/Hulk in a few episodes, his role in Child's Play was his last performance he ever made since he retired. He died in 2005.

    • @Thundarr100
      @Thundarr100 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      4. One of the inspirations for Chucky was a real life haunted doll named Robert. Allegedly, whoever owned the Robert doll would become victim to several strange accidents. The Robert doll is currently on display in a glass case in a museum in Key West, Florida. Apparently, people are warned to not take Robert’s picture without asking the doll for permission first. Those who disregard the warning and take the photo of Robert without asking permission will suffer from tragic accidents.

Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but picked Tom Holland as he enjoyed Holland's 1985 Comedy Horror film Fright Night.

I was a weird kid... the exact opposite of you. I REALLY wanted to see this movie at 10 years old. My parents assumed I would be traumatized by it, and figured I didn't understand what the movie actually was so they refused to let me see it.
Of course, then they went out one night and it was on HBO... and I watched it happily. I LOVED IT... yes, it was scary, but as we all know that's the point.
I still love the series to this day... IMO the only low-lights are Bride and Seed, but I've even come around on them more over the years...
The TV series is pretty great too, even if it ignores a lot of the rules previously established in the movies willy-nilly.

Soon to be turning 35 years old on November 9th, this year.
Way back when studios were trying to make that next, new horror character.
Child's Play was one of the most creative concepts of the era.
Mixing the supernatural with mystery and suspense while still keeping the slasher feel.
Brad Dourif in his performances as Chucky, from human to doll and through every installment has been incredible.
I liked the first film and the 3 sequels that followed.
After those, i was done with watching the franchise.
It got a little too convoluted with the multiple continunities.
Parts 2-4, 6 and 7 were from Universal Pictures.
Of course, The Universal Monsters' legacy is a whole other success.
But in the time that the franchise was with the studio, Chucky was made an honorary Universal monster.
Fright Night (1985) is another classic by writer/director Tom Holland.
His debut as an filmmaker and a fan-favorite vampire movie, prior to Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys (1987).

Dude, I had a life-size doll. My older brother rigged it to move, then had me watch the movie, and because I wanted to be cool, I watched it with him. Being under 10, I was trying to show him I could handle it. Well, when it was over, he said I should probably go to bed since it was late. As I was walking down the dark hallway to my room, he pulled the sting he had attached to my doll, and it fell out of my bedroom door. Man, I have never ran so fast before, back to the couch, and would not go back to sleep until my mom got home later that evening. He got grounded for like a month, and I didn't want to see or know where that doll went ever again.

My parents liked going to Spencer’s even though they knew I hate that doll, but they couldn’t just leave outside of the store so my dad’s idea to help me face my fear was to tell me to go up to the doll and just poke it in the head just show me it’s just a doll, but that didn’t do anything for me.
That is until I got older and I started to learn more about Chucky I started get less and less scared of him. It was through understanding who the character of Chucky was, was how I got over my fear of him.

I got into this franchise recently absolutely love it. And I have a feeling based on your love for Evil Dead that you'll love this franchise as well. The first two films TRY to stay in that horror realm, but to me kinda fail at it. Hard to be scared of a doll unless the movie version of Annabelle. But that has more to do with the fact it's a porcelain doll rather than the doll itself. But Child's Play 3, and and the two films after it lean into camp and comedy, sometimes going full comedy. Then Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky go back to the horror roots, though Cult has a bit more of the campy comedy, while Curse is (in my opinion) the scariest of the films. And then there's the show, which is balls to the walls insane. And insanely funny, too.

To answer your question, $100 in 1988 (which is when the movie takes place) would cost $257 today. If you react to all these movies, watch the "Chucky" series, especially since they bring Andy back and explains how things lead up to the first movie.
some Trivia: Andy's actor, Alex Vincent, didn't want to curse during the film so he intentionally "forgot" his lines while filming.

I feel you! I recently rewatched the film to confront my fears because I have two reasons for being afraid of Chucky. Firstly, I saw him in a picture on a satirical show in my country when I was twelve years old. For two weeks in a row, I had literal nightmares, and everyone around me teased me because "you are twelve; you should not be afraid of a doll!" Two, I was 21 years old when I eventually saw the film, which was seven years ago. I was so uneasy that I vowed never to watch it again. I chose to rewatch it a month ago. However, it went better ...

The tv series is great, but you need to get through all the films first, as it is a direct continuation from the last one. This series does a great job building lore and continuity. I recommend watching them all!

Funny you should mention Smeagol, considering that Brad Dourif played a *different* Lord of the Rings character (the evil advisor in Rohan)
And scariest moment had to be the head-turn immediately after she sees Chucky has no batteries.

When i tell you this movie traumatized me, this movie made me fearful of this doll for years. I was 6 when i saw this movie and i was fresh off the imagination of Toy Story and thinking toys came to life when you weren’t looking. When i saw Chucky killing i was so freaked out i couldn’t sleep with my toys anymore. For the longest time i couldn’t walk past Spencer’s when they had the Chucky doll on display or the billboards for his movies, i couldn’t even watch the commercials and i would turn it away or run out the room. When i acted up, my dad would say if i didn’t stop being bad, he would put me in the closet with Chucky 😂😂😂 i finally got out of my fear at 15 years old. Now i watch every singly Chucky installment there is.

"Some people IRL own an Annabelle doll". Oh yea, I went to some figurine shop and opposite to a wall of Funko Pops there she was, a half-sized replica of Annabelle, next to a desktop version in her little glass case. Of course next to a Chucky doll.

I was so scared of dolls as a kid because of Chucky. My great grandmother had a room FULL of porcelain dolls. Like 30+ in a tiny room.
Well, she gifted one to my Mom. My Mom then thought it was fun to lock me in the closet with it.
    I was horrified.
But now I love Chucky and am not scared of dolls so it's all good.
